State of health assessment of Li-ion batteries using a multiple linear regression model
In this study, we investigate the impact of peak area in the incremental capacity curve, current, temperature, and charge capacity on battery performance through a regression model. We employ data from the University of Michigan Battery Lab to characterise the degradation of lithium-ion pouch cells under different cycling conditions. We propose two linear regression models, with and without interaction terms, to describe the relationships between the battery capacity and three independent variables: the test current, the temperature of the battery, and the area under the main peak of the IC curve. The results show that the inclusion of interaction terms in the model significantly improves the accuracy of the model, especially under varying thermal and current conditions
Artificial Neural Networks for Residual Capacity Estimation of Cycle-Aged Cylindric LFP Batteries
This paper introduces a data-driven methodology for accurately estimating the residual capacity (RC) of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries through a tailored artificial neural network (ANN) architecture. The proposed model integrates a long short-term memory (LSTM) layer with a fully connected layer, leveraging their combined strengths to achieve precise RC predictions. A distinguishing feature of this study is its ability to deliver highly accurate estimates using a limited dataset that was derived from a single cylindrical LFP battery with a 40 Ah capacity and collected during a controlled experimental campaign. Despite the constraints imposed by the dataset size, the ANN demonstrates remarkable performance, underscoring the model’s capability to operate effectively with minimal data. The dataset is partitioned into the training and testing subsets to ensure a rigorous evaluation. Additionally, the robustness of the approach is validated by testing the trained ANN on data from a second battery cell subjected to a distinct aging process, which was entirely unseen during training. This critical aspect underscores the method’s applicability in estimating RC for batteries with varying aging profiles, a key requirement for real-world deployment. The proposed LSTM-based architecture was also benchmarked against a GRU-based model, yielding significantly lower prediction errors. Furthermore, beyond LFP chemistry, the method was tested on a broader NMC dataset comprising seven cells aged under different C-rates and temperatures, where it maintained high accuracy, confirming its scalability and robustness across chemistries and usage conditions. These results advance battery management systems by offering a robust, efficient modeling framework that optimizes battery utilization across diverse applications, even under data-constrained conditions

CCDC6 and USP7 expression levels suggest novel treatment options in high-grade urothelial bladder cancer
Abstract
BACKGROUND:
The muscle invasive form of urothelial bladder cancer (UBC) is a deadly disease. Currently, the therapeutic approach of UBC is mostly based on surgery and standard chemotherapy. Biomarkers to establish appropriate drugs usage are missing. Deficiency of the tumor suppressor CCDC6 determines PARP-inhibitor sensitivity. The CCDC6 levels are modulated by the deubiquitinase USP7. In this work we scored CCDC6 and USP7 expression levels in primary UBC and we evaluated the expression levels of CCDC6 in correlation with the effects of the PARP-inhibitors combined with the USP7 inhibitor, P5091, in vitro. Since PARP-inhibitors could be enhanced by conventional chemotherapy or DNA damage inducers, we tested the new agent RRx-001, able to induce DNA damage, to prove the benefit of combined treatments in bladder cancer cells.
METHODS:
The J82, T24, 5637 and KU-19-19 bladder cancer cells were exposed to USP7 inhibitor P5091 in presence of cycloheximide to analyse the CCDC6 stability. Upon the CCDC6 degradation induced by P5091, the cells sensitivity to PARP-inhibitor was evaluated by cell viability assays. The ability of the DNA damage inducer RRx-001 to modulate CCDC6 protein levels and H2AX phosphorylation was detected at immunoblot. The combination of USP7 inhibitor plus RRx-001 enhanced the PARP-inhibitor sensitivity, as evaluated by cell viability assays. The results of the scores and correlation of CCDC6 and USP7 expression levels obtained by UBC primary biopsies staining were used to cluster patients by a K-mean cluster analysis.
RESULTS:
P5091 determining CCDC6 degradation promoted bladder cancer cells sensitivity to PARP-inhibitor drugs. RRx-001, by inducing DNA damage, enhanced the effects of the combined treatment. The immunohistochemical staining of both CCDC6 and USP7 proteins allowed to cluster the high grade (G3) UBC patients, on the basis of CCDC6 expression levels.
CONCLUSIONS:
In high grade UBC the identification of two clusters of patients based on CCDC6 and USP7 expession can possibly indicate the use of PARP-inhibitor drugs, in combination with USP7 inhibitor in addition to the DNA damage inducer RRx-001, that also acts as an immunomodulatory agent, offering novel therapeutic strategy for personalized medicine in bladder cancer patients
Surgical treatment of chronic acromioclavicular dislocation with biologic graft vs synthetic ligament: a prospective randomized comparative study
Background: Acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation involves complete loss of articular contact; it is defined as chronic when it follows conservative management or unsuccessful surgical treatment. Materials and methods: The study compared the clinical and radiographic outcomes of AC joint stabilization performed in 40 patients with chronic dislocation using a biological allograft (group A) or a synthetic ligament (group B). Demographic data included: M/F: 25/15; mean age: 35 ± 3.2 years; previous surgery in 11 patients, including Weaver-Dunn (3), coracoacromial ligament repair (4), stabilization with K-wires (4). Dislocation was type III in 14 (35 %) and type IV in 26 (65 %) patients. Clinical assessment was with the Constant-Murley score (pre- and postoperative) and with the modified UCLA score. Enrollment started in January 2004 and was completed in March 2008. Patients were evaluated at 1 and 4 years. Postoperative X-rays were examined to assess joint stability in the coronal and axial planes, coracoclavicular ossification, and signs of AC joint osteoarthritis and distal clavicular osteolysis. Results: The "biological" group achieved significantly better clinical scores than the "synthetic" group at both 1 and 4 years. Poor subjective satisfaction and lower clinical scores were found in the 3 patients (1 from group A and 2 from group B) who experienced complete postoperative dislocation. No significant correlations were found with other radiographic parameters. Conclusions: The biological graft afforded better clinical and radiographic outcomes than the synthetic ligament in patients with chronic AC joint instability. Fixation to the clavicle constitutes the main weakness of both approaches and needs improving. © 2012 The Author(s)
Safety and effectiveness of 8 weeks of Glecaprevir/Pibrentasvir in challenging HCV patients: Italian data from the CREST study
INTRODUCTION: Glecaprevir/pibrentasvir (G/P) has demonstrated high rates (>95%) of sustained virologic response at posttreatment Week 12 (SVR12) in treatment-naïve (TN) patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and compensated cirrhosis (CC). Here, in a key real-world subset of TN Italian patients with CC, we evaluated the effectiveness and safety of 8-week G/P treatment, including subgroups of interest such as those with genotype 3 (GT3) infection, elderly patients, and those with more advanced liver disease. METHODS: Subanalysis of Italian patients enrolled in the CREST study. The full analysis set (FAS) included all patients enrolled in the study; the modified analysis set (MAS) excluded patients who discontinued G/P for nonvirologic failure or who had missing SVR12 results. Primary and secondary endpoints included SVR12 and safety, respectively. RESULTS: Of 42 patients included in the FAS, 1 discontinued for unknown reasons, and 2 had missing SVR12 data, leaving 39 patients included in the MAS. At treatment initiation, 74% of patients had ≥1 comorbidity, and 62% were receiving concomitant medications, including some that may potentially interact with G/P. SVR12 was achieved in 100% of patients in the MAS, and in 95% in the FAS. In subgroups of interest, the proportion of patients achieving SVR12 in the MAS (and FAS) was: 100% (94%) for patients ≥65 years, 100% (86%) for GT3, and 100% (100%) for patients with platelet count 20 kPa. Overall, 2 (5%) patients had an adverse event and neither were serious. CONCLUSION: Results from this real-world Italian cohort demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of 8-week G/P, with SVR12 rate >95%, even in elderly patients. These findings further support real-world evidence of the use of short-course G/P treatment in all patients with CC, including those with GT3, and those with advanced liver disease
USP7 inhibitors, downregulating CCDC6, sensitize lung neuroendocrine cancer cells to PARP-inhibitor drugs
CCDC6 gene product is a tumor-suppressor pro-apoptotic protein, substrate of ATM, involved in DNA damage response and repair. Altered levels of CCDC6 expression are dependent on post-translational modifications, being the de-ubiquitinating enzyme USP7 responsible of the fine tuning of the CCDC6 stability. Thus, our aim was to investigate CCDC6 and USP7 expression levels in Lung-Neuroendocrine Tumors (L-NETs) to verify if they correlate and may be exploited as novel predictive therapeutic markers
Arthroscopic treatment of early glenohumeral arthritis
Background: The articular cartilage of the shoulder is not endowed with intrinsic repair abilities, so the detection of chondral lesions during arthroscopy may indicate that additional articular procedures are needed. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the benefits of arthroscopy in patients with early shoulder arthritis, and to assess which clinical and radiological features are correlated with better arthroscopic outcomes. Materials and methods: Out of a total of 2,707 shoulders, 61 arthroscopies were performed on patients aged 30-55 years suffering from a painful early arthritic shoulder. We performed a retrospective study of 47 of those 61 patients with osteoarthritis at Samilson-Prieto stage I or II. SST and Constant score were used as outcome measures. Arthroscopic circumferential capsulotomy was performed to release the soft tissues and increase the joint space. Glenoid chondral lesions were caregorized according to location (anterior, posterior, centered) and size (small, large, total) and treated with microfractures; in the last 11 patients, we placed a engineered hyaluronic acid membrane, Hyalograft® C, on the surface of the glenoid. Postoperative care included mobilization the day after surgery, with the arm protected in a sling for two weeks. Follow-up examinations were performed at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after surgery. The clinical and radiographic data collected were compared with those obtained at the last examination. Results: The mean Constant score increased from 43.8 points to 79.1, and the mean SST score increased from 4.9 points to 9.4 points. Clinical outcomes improved significantly in 44 patients (93.6 %). The three patients (6.4 %) with the lowest scores showed progression of arthritis. Age, gender, glenohumeral distance, and presence of engineered hyaluronic acid membrane were not related to clinical scores. Recovery of range of motion as well as small and centered cartilage lesions were statistically associated with improved outcome. Conclusion: The main finding was that soft tissue procedures (including capsulotomy and synovectomy) associated with glenoid microfractures are only suitable for patients with early arthritis and preserved humeral head shape, particularly in cases with small and centered glenoid cartilage lesions. © 2012 The Author(s)
GENDER AND COMMUNITY IN THE ORAL AND IN THE WRITTEN
International audienceThe central question addressed in this paper is how categories of gender and community affect each other (1). This question is looked at in one of the preferred fields for intellectual constructions and interpretations, that of literary narratives. The relationship between gender and community is examined in a corpus of Kabyle oral narratives and in novels written in French by women writers from Kabylia (Algeria). These genres are heterogeneous in mode of production (oral, written) and language (Kabyle, French), but they can be included in what the author calls a 'Kabyle literary space', which permits a recognition of the interactions and intersections of materials that cannot be understood, interpreted, or even enjoyed were they to belong to two discrete systems
