Of Fragmentation and Precedents in International Criminal Law: Possible Lessons from Recent Jurisprudence on Aiding and Abetting Liability
After discussing the notion of ‘fragmentation’ and the value of using the metaphor in the context of ICL, the author turns to substantive criminal law to try and determine the correct actus reus of aiding and abetting liability in contemporary ICL, and to ask whether ‘specific direction’ has any role to play therein. He then addresses the more general problem of determining the role of coherence and consistency in the development of ICL, the function of precedents within and across international courts and tribunals, and the evolving role and function of customary international law in contemporary ICL to draw lessons for the International Criminal Court
Suitability of the old fowl rectal caecum preparation for investigating the selectivity of β-adrenergic drugs
We tested alpha- and beta-adrenergic drugs on isolated strips of fowl rectal caecum from 14- to 16-week-old Warren hens. Basal tone and spontaneous motility were dose-dependently reduced by isoprenaline and all the selective beta-agonists tested (except xamoterol) with the following order of potency: isoprenaline=fenoterol=procaterol=clenbuterol>dobutamine> SR58611A. The results indicate that this tissue preparation consists almost entirely of beta2-adrenoceptors. This preparation may, therefore, be considered a suitable assay for discriminating beta1- from beta2-agonists according to their selectivity
Object Detection Techniques Applied to UAV Photogrammetric Survey
This project proposes an automated approach to the census of technological and architectural elements from massive photography datasets; it is built on photogrammetric close-range acquisitions performed via UAV over the roofs of the centre of Bethlehem and aims at mapping the water tanks for civilian use that create loads on historical buildings in a seismic area. The urban census was conducted within “3D Bethlehem. Management and control of urban growth for the development of Heritage and Improvement of life in the city of Bethlehem”, a project promoted by AICS. Deep Learning models were built on a Cloud Infrastructure handling model lifecycle from training to deployment. Tests were conducted on historical buildings that show multiple spurious elements such as debris and junk creating occlusion on objects of interest. Such density creates complex scenarios for models targeted at assisting large scale monitoring and management of the areas for different teams and municipalities
When proposing the suggestive and slippery concept of granularity of the voice, Barthes points out that the eroticism it embodies can only result in strictly personal approaches governed by the amorous relationship between a voice and its listener. In this line of thought and invoking that Barthesian notion, I suggest an approach to the mise en voix of the poetry of Idea Vilariño by the author herself, convinced that, in this reading, the interweaving of form, structuring negation, and Vilariño’s voice produce a sort of fixation. Fil: Carcano, Enzo. Jacobo Fijman’s mystic and marginal poetry: a literary approach
The categories with which Jacobo Fijman‘s poetry is often characterized, madness and mysticism —that, in certain cases, are confusingly said about the author and of his work at the same time—, have motivated some critics to think that this production answers to what Noé Jtrik called ―spontaneous and wild marginality‖, the one that does not propose anything in relation to the principles of the literary canon, which allegedly does not know. In this article, a summary of the main ideas of our doctoral thesis, we expose the opposite hypothesis: fijmanian poetry is a marginal project, or a marginalizing one, because it is not put aside from the centre, but its own constitution happens in the borders and it opposes the aesthetics of its time. This project —which begins in the firsts poems and ends, transformed, in those written during the stay of the poet in the psychiatric hospital— reaches its highest point in Hecho de estampas and Estrella de la mañana, where what I call — following Michel de Certeau‘s theoretical proposal— fijmanian mystic is materialized, this is, a particular modus loquendi that expresses the absolute desire for the Other.Fil: Carcano, Enzo.
As a particular way of expressing an experiencie, mysticism is born in a place, in a locus imagined, created by the writer. Among the numerous elements that appear there, is corporality, whose inscription varies from one author to another. In this article, we compare some of the mature works of Jacobo Fijman and Héctor Viel Temperley to see how the body becomes present, which place takes up in the spaces of enunciation that they create
Differences between longitudinal and circular smooth muscle in ß-adrenergic control of motility of isolated equine ileum
OBJECTIVE:
To identify beta-adrenoceptor subtypes involved in motility inhibition of circular and longitudinal smooth muscle layers of equine ileum.
SAMPLE POPULATION:
Isolated strips of equine ileum circular smooth muscle and membrane preparations from circular and longitudinal muscle layers.
PROCEDURE:
Functional assays of circular muscle preparations and radioligand binding assays and measurements of cAMP production in smooth muscle membranes from circular and longitudinal layers.
RESULTS:
Selective beta-adrenergic agonists exerted inhibitory effects on circular muscle preparations. Binding studies of cell membranes indicated that the density and distribution of 3 beta-adrenoceptor subtypes did not differ between longitudinal and circular muscle layers. Measurement of cAMP production in membrane preparations of longitudinal and circular muscle after selective beta-stimulation confirmed presence of the 3 adenylate cyclase-coupled beta-adrenoceptor subtypes; however, preparations from the 2 layers had differing cAMP production efficacy.
CONCLUSIONS:
The data may partly explain the differing functional responses between circular and longitudinal muscle preparations.
CLINICAL RELEVANCE:
Findings support the important role of beta-atypical adrenoceptors in the inhibitory regulation of equine ileum motility
The poetry of Juan Gelman and Olga Orozco coincide in one aspect: in spite of their different nature, they can both be read as a search for lost unity because of political violence in one case, or due to the fall of men in contingency, in the other. Two poems in which the name of the author appears (Gelman’s “x” and Orozco’s “Olga Orozco”) embody that will for restoring —through poetic language— what is lost, and, at the same time, the failure of that endeavor. From the concept of autofiction, I will analyze how these poems stress the inner rupture of the lyric I
This Thesis originates from the internship served by the author in Carcano Antonio S.p.A. company based in Mandello del Lario (LC).
The scope of this work is to illustrate the contribution offered for the deploy of the sedApta suite, which mainly consists of the Manifacturing Execution System (MES) aimed to control the progress of production process and the Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP) useful for planning industrial resources. In particular, the focus is on the definition of strategies for the implementation of the MES, named Nicim, which has been introduced in the production chain management of the plant of Delebio.
Thanks to the first hand participation to meetings and interviews dedicated to the production process with sedApta S.r.l., that supplied the suite, the author had the chance to take part in the development of the MonAvanz GUI which represents – in Nicim – the tool of declaration of the progress in each step of the manufacturing process.
The implementation of Oracle procedures which populates the interfacing tabs between the MES and the company management system has been useful to understand in detail the variety and the complexity of the information that is necessary to define, classify and archive in a manufacturing company.
The following tests carried by the author at work center V08 together with the training sessions conducted for the workers of the machine have succeeded in optimising effectively the tool.
Lastly, the analysis and resolution of problems found in the plant of Mandello, where MES and CRP systems has been operating for a long time, have turned out to be useful to understand the effective interaction between the two systems
The essay focuses on the political role played by Giuseppe Zanardelli
between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, and
on his influence on the enactment of some of the most relevant statutory
reforms at the time. The partial decriminalization of strikes in the
1889 Penal Code – allowing peaceful abstentions from work – as well
as the Women’s and Children’s Labour Act, even though named after the
finance minister Carcano, can be traced back to Zanardelli’s political influence.
Moving from Zanardelli’s contribution to these and other reform
projects, the author describes his enlightened and liberal attitude
