A survey of the instrument landing system glide path
No full textThe investigation of the operating characteristics of the glide path equipment of the Instrument Landing System was made in the eleven week period which comprises the Winter Term of the third year in the Electronics Engineering course of instruction at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School at Annapolis, Maryland. The field work was done at the Federal Telecommunication Laboratory at the Westchester County Airport, White Plains, New York. There the author assisted Mr. Sidney Pickles in a series of air and ground tests on a glide path installation. The tests covered the period from January 3, 1949 to March 18,1949. The tests were made in an attempt to complete the theory of operation of a piece of equipment which has been in actual operation in all parts of the world for several years. The difficulty of making measurements on the glide path (the useful glide path lies almost entirely at distances above the ground which cannot be probed from the ground) and the inadequate equipments and techniques for making measurements at the glide path frequency has left several factors uninvestigated and the inter-relation of many factors open to considerable question. While Mr. Pickles and the author feel that their work has added to the knowledge of the theory of operation of the equipment they are convinced that the theory is still inadequate to explain some of the phenomena observed during the test period.Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.Lieutenant Commander, United States Navyhttp://archive.org/details/asurveyofinstrum109453164

No full textDie betriebliche Weiterbildung hat sich seit Ende der 1960er Jahre in Deutschland zum größten Feld der Erwachsenenbildung entwickelt, so dass bereits vom Betrieb als "ökonomisch begründete pädagogische Institution" und von der "Verbetrieblichung der Weiterbildung" gesprochen wird. In der betrieblichen Nutzung steht Weiterbildung unter einem privatwirtschaftlich-ökonomischen Paradigma. Somit lohnt ein vertiefender Blick auf die Auswirkungen ökonomischer Dominanz auf das Lernen Erwachsener. Auf dem Hintergrund von Befunden zu Lernzeiten wird im Beitrag das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen ökonomischen Zeitordnungen und pädagogischen Zeitmustern für die institutionelle Ebene (Betrieb), für den Lernprozess und für das subjektive Erleben beschrieben. (DIPF/Orig.)Since the end of the 1960s, in-service training has developed into the largest sector of adult education in Germany, so much so, in fact, that firms and companies are referred to as "economically grounded pedagogical institutions" and people talk about increasingly "company-focused further education". Within the framework of company use, further education is defined by a paradigm determined by economic aspects and private-industry interests. Thus, a deeper look into the effects of economic dominance on learning by adults will prove valuable. Against the background of findings regarding learning times, the author describes the tense relation between economic time structures and pedagogical time patterns on the institutional level (company), with regard to the learning process, and with regard to subjective experiences.
