    In 1908 Edison increased the playing time of the cylinders. From 1888-1902 the speed of the records varied so the record could fit the song, anywhere from 90-144rpm. After 1902 the speed was standardized at 160rpm. In 1908 Edison cylinders changed from 100 grooves per inch to 200 grooves per inch. From 1908-1911 Edison Amberols were made, these are a wax cylinder record. And these play with only sapphire stili, on the Edison Reproducers model H,L,N, N56, Model M, K,O. In 1912 Edison invented the Blue Amberol, it is a 4 minute record but made of celluloid. These will play on all of the above reproducers plus the Diamond A,B,C,D on the Edison Amberola cylinder phonographs. Edison Blue Amberols were made from 1912-1929. Wax Amberols will not play wth the Diamond A,B,C,D. ; Musica

    Adherence of Molecules to Silica Glass Surface: Experimental Results and Theoretical Calculations

    The adherence of molecules to surfaces is used in a wide scope of technological applications. In this work we study the attachment of molecules onto porous silica glass surface obtained from a Vycor glass, after glassglass phase separation and leaching of the soluble phase with water. Nitrogen adsorption at 77 K was used for the determination of the specific surface area (BET area) and pore size distribution on the leached glass. The adherence onto the glass surface, of model molecules methylene blue (MB) and eosine yellow (EY), with positive and negative electrical charges respectively, was studied. The adsorption kinetics was determined from aqueous solutions using UV-VIS spectroscopy. It was found that the silica glass surface as prepared in of glass was found for methylene blue, and almost null adsorption for eosine yellow. First principles calculations were performed using the Density Functional Theory in order to model the interaction between both molecules and the glass surface.Fil: Rivera Figueroa, Edison. Las 3-mariposas buscan estudiar los enlaces de 3-puentes y su clasificación. Las cristalizaciones estudian las 3-variedades de género dos y su clasificación. Las 3-mariposas pueden ser codificadas mediante una 6-tupla de enteros positivos de la forma {m₁,n₁,m₂,n₂,m₃,n₃} y las cristalizaciones se pueden codificar también con una 6-tupla de la forma (h₀,h₁,h₂;q₀,q₁,q₂).     The importance of pairwork in educational and interdisciplinary initiatives

    An early and prominent employee of Google, Georges Harik, recently made the assertion that pairs working together in startups are 20 times more productive than individuals working alone. The author has also personally experienced the boost of what is here termed pairwork in a university setting during the startup phase of several educational and interdisciplinary initiatives. The paper briefly explores pairwork in the history of technology and constructs both qualitative and little quantitative models of pairwork. The quantitative model under reasonable assumptions easily recovers Harik’s 20x boost. The paper also briefly examines the author’s recent experiences with pairwork in four interdisciplinary and educational initiatives

    No Underskirts in Africa: Edison Carneiro and the "Lineages" of Afro-Brazilian Religious Anthropology

    The article presents the folklorist, essayist, journalist and anthropologist Edison Carneiro (1912-1972) and situates him among the “lineages” or intellectual affiliations in the context of studies on Afro-Brazilian religious groups. Describing the life of Edison Carneiro, his relationship with American anthropologist Ruth Landes and his participation in the folkloric movement, I look to situate Carneiro among the various intellectual trends found within the study of Afro-Brazilian religions. I argue that the author occupied an ambiguous position in terms of the African presence in the constitution of Afro-Brazilian religions, showing close proximities to Ruth Landes, Franklin Frazier, Ruth Benedict, Donald Pierson and Robert Park on the one hand, and Melville Herskovitz, Roger Bastide and Arthur Ramos on the other.
