    The Role and Activities of Security Institutions of the Latvia SSR, Strenghtening Occupation Regime in 1944-1956

    Anotācija Promocijas darbs „Latvijas PSR drošības iestāžu darbība un loma okupācijas režīma nostiprināšanā 1944. – 1956.” Ir izstrādāts LU Vēstures un filozofijas fakultātes Latvijas un Austrumeiropas jauno un jaunāko laiku vēstures katedrā. Autors: Rivars Jansons. Zinātniskais vadītājs: Dr. habil. hist., prof. Aivars Stranga. Promocijas darbā analizēta LPSR drošības iestāžu kā PSRS struktūrvienību darbība. Darbā izpētīts, kā LPRS drošības iestādes kopā ar PSRS drošības iestādēm veica masveida represijas Latvijā, apspieda bruņoto pretošanās kustību. Promocijas darbā analizētas arī LPSR drošības iestāžu veiktās izlūkošanas, pretizlūkošanas, izmeklēšanas darbības un cīņa ar „pretpadomju propagandu un aģitāciju”, vēršanās pret Latvijas reliģiskajām konfesijām. Darbā analizēta arī LPRS drošības iestāžu loma komunistiskā okupācijas režīma nostiprināšanā Latvijā.Abstract Doctoral thesis “The Role and Activities of Security Institutions of the Latvia SSR, Strenghtening Occupation Regime in 1944–1956” has been written at University of Latvia, Faculty of History and Philosophy, Department of Contemporary History of Latvia and Eastern Europe. Doctoral thesis focuses on analysis of the security institutions of the Latvia SSR as a part of the security structures of the USSR. Doctoral thesis provides a research on mass repressions and annihilation of an armed resistance movement in the Latvia SSR, carried out by the security institutions of the LSSR and the USSR. Doctoral thesis gives also analyses of espionage, counter-intelligence and investigative activities of the security institutions of the LSSR, as well as its turning against “anti-Soviet propaganda and agitation” and different churches. Research also reviews the role of the security institutions of the LSSR, strengthening Communistic Regime of Occupation in the territory of Latvia

    Discharge and Nitrogen Transfer Modelling in the Berze River: A HYPE Setup and Calibration

    Abstract This study is focused on water quality and quantity modelling in the Berze River basin located in the Zemgale region of Latvia. The contributing basin area of 872 km2 is furthermore divided into 15 sub-basins designated according to the characteristics of hydrological network and water sampling programme. The river basin of interest is a spatially complex system with agricultural land and forests as two predominant land use types. Complexity of the system reflects in the discharge intensity and diffuse pollution of nitrogen compounds into the water bodies of the river basin. The presence of urban area has an impact as the load from the existing wastewater treatment plants consist up to 76 % of the total nitrogen load in the Berze River basin. Representative data sets of land cover, agricultural field data base for crop distribution analysis, estimation of crop management, soil type map, digital elevation model, drainage conditions, network of water bodies and point sources were used for the modelling procedures. The semi-distributed hydro chemical model HYPE has a setup to simulate discharge and nitrogen transfer. In order to make the model more robust and appropriate for the current study the data sets previously stated were classified by unifying similar spatially located polygons. The data layers were overlaid and 53 hydrological response units (SLCs) were created. Agricultural land consists of 48 SLCs with the details of soils, drainage conditions, crop types, and land management practices. Manual calibration procedure was applied to improve the performance of discharge simulation. Simulated discharge values showed good agreement with the observed values with the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency of 0.82 and bias of −6.6 %. Manual calibration of parameters related to nitrogen leakage simulation was applied to test the most sensitive parameters.</jats:p

    Temporal and Spatial Variation of Nutrient Leaching from Agricultural Land in Latvia: Long Term Trends in Retention and Nutrient Loss in a Drainage and Small Catchment Scale

    Agricultural run-off monitoring and losses of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) from small (60 – 960 ha) catchments and drainage fields (12 – 77 ha) in Latvia were analyzed. The catchments represent areas with different agricultural production intensity, landscape, soils and climate. Results from the long-term monitoring show (i) large differences in levels of losses between the catchments and fields with different farming intensity, (ii) large annual and interannual variability due to climate impact and soil conditions, (iii) few time trends in nutrient losses. These results are discussed in relation to pollution from non-point and point sources. Besides, these data demonstrate changes in agriculture driven by large-scale changes in land-use intensity. However, despite the increased implementation of mitigation methods by farmers, improvements in water quality at the catchment scale can take a long time. Long-term monitoring programmes to detect trends are required

    Maģistra darba ietvaros autors meklē metodes, kā efektīvāk veidot atskaites. Tiek dots neliels ieskats SQL Reporting Services un Crystal Reports salīdzinājumā. Pamatojoties uz to, ka darījuma lietotnēs var būt nepieciešamība izmantot vairākus atskaišu veidošanas rīkus un atskaites palaišanas mehānisms mēdz būt vienāds, autors veido universālu atskaišu darbināšanas mehānismu, tajā atspoguļojot iegūto pieredzi atskaišu veidošanā, ko autors ieguvis vairāk kā četru gadu laikā. Lai vēl vairāk samazinātu laiku, kas nepieciešams pārskata izveidei, un dotu atskaites lietotājam kontroli pār atskaiti, autors ir izveidojis rīku, kas no datu pieprasījuma ir spējīgs izveidot gala atskaiti. Ar šī rīka palīdzību, lietotājs var pats noteikt, kā pārskats izskatīsies, piemēram, pēc kādas kolonnas dati tiks grupēti un kārtoti, kādas kolonnas nepieciešams attēlot. Author provides insight into comparison of SQL reporting Services and Crystal Reports. As sometimes it is necessary for business applications to use several report making tools while the mechanism of report generation is the same, the author creates a universal mechanism for generating reports. The author shares his four years practical work experience in creating reports. In order to reduce time needed for report generation and to allow the user of the report to have control over the report, the author has created a special tool which is able to generate the final report from the data query. With the help of this tool, the user can determine the layout of the report himself, for example by which column the data will be grouped and sorted, and which columns will be shown.     Bakalaura darbā tiek salīdzināti trīs atskaišu veidošanas rīki – bezmaksas DataVision, maksas SQL Reporting Services un Crystal Reports. Darbā tiek definētas mūsdienu atskaišu prasības un izmantojot šīs prasības kā vērtēšanas kritēriju, tiek meklētas atskaišu veidošanas rīku stiprās un vājās puses. Darba beigās autors dalās savā pieredzē un dod padomus efektīvai atskaišu izstrādei.The bachelor work compares three different tools of modelling reports - a free-of-charge DataVision and payable SQL Reporting Services and Crystal Reports. The author defines the requests for nowadays reports and investigates the strong and weak points of tools of modelling reports by using these requests as criterion for assessment. In the conclusion the author shares his own experience and gives advices for efficient development of reporting

Tēma ir aktuāla, jo mūsdienās cilvēki bieži pamana un dalās ar virālu saturu sociālajos tīklos, un daļa no satura, iespējams, ir partizānu mārketinga aktivitātes ar ieguvušo atpazīstamību. Cilvēki dalās ar saturu savos sociālajos tīklos, pat neapzinot tieši, kāpēc. Ir svarīgi analizēt dažādus faktorus, kas veicina virālā mārketinga panākumus sociālajos tīklos, kur rezultāti nav nedz paredzami, nedz plānoti. Šis process var palīdzēt noteikt galvenos faktorus, kas veido virāla partizānu mārketinga sociālajos tīklos fenomenu. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no trīs daļām. Pirmajā daļā ir analizētas teorētiskās nostādnes par partizānu mārketingu un viralitātes būtību, izpētītas virāla partizānu mārketinga pazīmes un raksturotas sociālo tīklu vietnes, kurās tiek izvietots virāls partizānu mārketings. Otrajā daļā analizētas pasaulē un Latvijā lielāko viralitāti ieguvušās partizānu mārketinga aktivitātes sociālajos tīklos un noskaidrots, kādas pazīmes un sociālie fenomeni ir ietekmējuši to viralitāti. Kā arī otrajā daļā tika veikta Latvijas sociālo tīklu lietotāju aptauja, lai noskaidrotu noteicošos faktorus, viņiem izvēloties iesaistīties partizānu mārketinga aktivitāšu viralitātes veicināšanā. Trešajā daļā apkopoti un analizēti partizānu mārketinga aktivitāšu viralitāti noteicošie faktori un aprakstīts to izmantojums viralitātes veicināšanā. Darbā tika pielietota monogrāfiskā metode, sekundāro datu analīze, statistiskā datu analīze, satura analīzes metode, aptauja un grafiskā datu apstrādes metode. Izstrādājot bakalaura darbu autors ir nonācis pie secinājuma, ka sociālo tīklu lietotājam svarīgs ir humors, pozitīvisms, pārsteigums, aktualitāte, unikalitāte un emocionalitāte, kas ir vien daži no elementiem, ko visbiežāk iespējams novērot partizānu mārketinga aktivitātēs. Viralitāti nav iespējams ne prognozēt, ne paredzēt, tāpēc daudz kas arī ir atkarīgs no lietotāju sajūtām konkrētajā brīdi, sociāliem fenomeniem, kur konkrētais saturs ir ticis pamanīts. Darbā izmantoti 77 informācijas avoti.The aim of Elvis's Jansons' bachelor thesis “Determinants of Guerrilla Marketing Virality on Social Networks” is to develop recommendations for advertisers and marketers to promote the virality of guerrilla marketing activities on social networks based on theoretical knowledge about guerrilla marketing, virality and empirical data analysis. The topic is relevant because nowadays people often notice and share viral content on social networks, and some of the content may be guerrilla marketing activities with the gained recognition. People share content on their social networks without even realising exactly why. It is important to analyse the different factors that contribute to the success of viral marketing on social networks, where the results are neither predictable nor planned. This process can help to identify the key factors that make up the phenomenon of viral guerrilla marketing on social networks. The Bachelor thesis consists of three parts. The first part analyses the theoretical framework of guerrilla marketing and the nature of virality, explores the characteristics of viral guerrilla marketing and describes the social networking sites where viral guerrilla marketing is posted. The second part analyses the most viral guerrilla marketing activities on social networks in the world and in Latvia and identifies the characteristics and social phenomenons that have influenced their virality. In the second part, a survey of Latvian social network users was conducted to find out the determining factors in their choice to engage in the virality enhancement of guerrilla marketing activities. The third part summarises and analyses the determinants of virality of guerrilla marketing activities and describes their use in promoting virality. In this paper the monographic method, secondary data analysis, statistical data analysis, content analysis method, survey and graphical data processing method were applied. In the process of his bachelor thesis, the author has concluded that humour, positivity, surprise, topicality, uniqueness, and emotionality are some of the elements that are most often observed in guerrilla marketing activities. Virality cannot be predicted or anticipated, so a lot also depends on the users' feelings at the time, the social phenomenons where the content has been seen. The bachelor thesis is 66 pages long without annexes. The thesis includes 2 tables and 22 figures. The thesis has 1 annex consisting of 4 pages. The thesis draws on 77 sources of information

    QR code based indoor navigation

    Šajā darbā autors piedāvā savu risinājumu navigācijas problēmu risināšanai ēku iekštelpās. Ideja balstās uz QR kodu kā references punktu izmantošanu un autora izstrādātu lietotni, kura izmantojot interneta savienojumu un informāciju no QR koda, var parādīt lietotāja atrašanās vietu ēkā. Lai lietotni padarītu plaši pieejamu tā tiek veidota kā tīmekļa pārlūkā darbināma lietojumprogramma. Šāda pieeja, savukārt, noved pie dažādiem tehniskiem izaicinājumiem, kā, piemēram, dinamiskas saskarnes veidošana un sensoru datu iegūšana un apstrāde. Šī darba svarīgs aspekts ir mēģinājumi iedzīvināt autora idejas, reālajā pasaulē, izveidojot prototipu. Sadarbībā ar Maksimu Andruhoviču no LU EVF Biznesa inkubatora notiek ideju apmaiņa un diskusijas par to kā šādu produktu piedāvāt biznesam. Šobrīd izstrādāta demonstrācijas versija LU galvenajai ēkai, Raiņa bulvārī 19, notiek saskaņošana un ieviešana.In this paper author proposes his solution for indoor navigation problems. Idea is to use QR codes as reference points and develop a mobile, web based application which based on information in QR code can show users location in building. As web based, there is challenge to build true dynamic interface as well as access and process sensor data. Important aspect of this work is to make real world prototype. In addition in cooperation with Maksims Andruhovičs from LU EVF Biznesa inkubators, discussions about how to make a product and deliver it to business happens. At this stage of development author has been successfully developed prototype for main building of University of Latvia, Raina bulvāris 19. Installation and coordination still in progress
