    Modification of the Beam as Solution of Irregular Building due to Seismic Load

    In recent years, deterioration due to seismic activity has been widely emerged in earthquake prone areas all over the world. Most structures without seismic consideration fail massively due to many reasons, for instance: irregularity problem, low quality of material, reinforcement insufficiency, and so forth. This paper will highlight the analysis of the irregular building simulation using dilatation by modifying the beam in some re-entrant corners and create it as separation inside the building. Variation of placement for the modified beam is examined to the applied high rise building; specifically console beam and Gerber beam. Convincingly, console beam is identified to provide better result for overcoming irregularity problem for both horizontal and vertical irregularity whereas period of structure can be shortened by attempting it as well as other behaviour parameters. Shear wall appearance will certainly increase the performance of the structure, but it will be necessarily needed for Gerber beam rather than console beam. Eminency of Gerber beam is greater probability for reducing the mass of structure since the dimension can be adjusted to be smaller than the main beam; otherwise further consideration of cantilever and intermediate span of the Gerber beam needs extra efforts

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Introduction to the seismic parameter for structural analysis has increased the awareness of better quality for a building to reach safety purpose limit. Considerably, the configuration and shape of the building must be restricted to the regular one. This paper will harness horizontally irregular building to be remodeled into several regular buildings. Furthermore, linear dynamic analysis by using response spectra is harnessed for gaining behaviour of the buildings and capacity of structural members. Beams are chosen to be discontinuous at several corners to create separation on the building; hereinafter, console beam system is implemented. Next, the double column is utilized to obtain the separation of the horizontally irregular building. Entirely, the discontinuity issue of applying dilatation leads to the behaviour of the building and capacity of the structural member inside. Further discontinuity distance which is shown in a double column system can be settled down by applying dilatation in the accurate building axis so that the failure will not be severe or simply deducting the gap between twin columns. In contrary, console beam satisfactorily behaves in order to decrease horizontal irregularity even turn it into the regular building. Moreover, the capacity of the building can be significantly enhanced as the shear wall is installed

    Improving seismic behaviour of irregular building through double column and console beam application

    Recent years, the shape of building is getting sophisticated; otherwise the environmental load such as earthquake, wind, and wave cannot longer be neglected during analysis. Accommodating U-shaped building for analysis, we noticed the irregularity in both horizontal and vertical direction will create severe damages to the structure under the earthquake. In order to prevent destruction to the structural member, assigning dilatation is one possible way by utilizing double column or console beam system to break the irregularity of the building plan. During analysis, the model of non shear wall system is also built in order to compare the effectiveness between both systems. Strong evidence of double column system performance is less than console beam is answered from behavioural parameters of the both system under earthquake. Higher period, displacement and drift are peril for the double column system compare to console beam system application. Hence, console beam system is beneficially selected to solve irregularities in horizontal direction as the discontinuity of the load transfer is relatively small. Hereinafter, installing earthquake resistant system can be reconsidered after the dilatation was applied to strengthen certain direction which was marked as the weak axis of the building structure

    Review of Seismic Assessment for High Rise Building Isolated by Dilatation to Minimize Irregularity

    Noticeably, the design of today’s building particularly high rise building and skyscraper show irregularity in both horizontal and vertical direction which is dangerous for each element inside the building. Handily, certain disjoint can be applied to the building to minimize the irregularity for better desired behaviour. Dilatation is a well-known method together with several other methods are introduced and implemented for gaining principal of simple regular building. Double column and cantilever beam method are two of them which are excellent to divide the building into several regular buildings after they are applied. The double column is found out to perform better on dilatation direction application at the weak axis of the building. Moreover, accurate review of double column distance will solve the load transfer discontinuity so that better behaviour and performance can be satisfied. Hereinafter, the cantilever beam conducts perfectly when the shear wall is sufficiently installed and the cantilever beam span is contently fulfilled. Shear wall remarkably contributes to enhancing the behaviour and performance of the structure as the shear wall placement is proper to absorb seismic lateral force. Recommendation of both systems can be well performed once the column distance, cantilever span, and shear wall installation are strongly taken into consideration

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
