    The Van Riper House, which was built circa 1708, was the home of Revolutionary War soldier John Abraham Van Riper. His Father Abraham Van Riper, who also lived at the house, was a supporter of the Patriot cause during the war. The original part of the house, which was built in 1708 and the addition was added in 1788. General Lord Cornwallis used the Van Riper House as his temporary headquarters while his and General George Washington's troops searched out each other near the Third River.Original file name Van Ripen House 3.jp
