    Diffraction Pattern Simulation of Crystal Structure towards the Ionic Radius Changes Via Vesta Program

    The Simulations of X-ray diffraction patterns of MgO, BaO and ZnS ceramics were successfully performed by VESTA program, based on the crystal structures visualization. The aim of this research was to obtain the relationship between ionic radius to the diffraction pattern. The X-ray diffraction pattern was generated from visualization of the crystal structure. The crystal structure information was obtained from JCPDS data which contained lattice parameter, atomic coordinate and the space group. The X-ray diffraction pattern parameters which are taken into account in this research are diffraction angle of 2 Theta and Intensity. The results indicated that the peak position and intensity of the diffraction pattern are influenced by ionic radius of the cations. Structural transformation was also detected from this simulation

    THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ZINC OXIDE THIN FILM DOPING SELENIUM

    The selenium-doped ZnO nanomaterial has successfully grown the surface of FTO (Fluorine Tin Oxide) using a seed-mediated hydrothermal method at a temperature of 90°C for 5 hours. In this research, the doping selenium by variation the volume of selenium solution at 0 mL, 0.025 mL dan 0.2 mL. This is an impact on the optical properties and morphology of ZnO nanorods. The samples were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The UV-Vis spectra showed that strong absorption occurs in the wavelength range of 300-380 nm. The 0.025 mL Se doped ZnO was the highest absorption compared to other samples. The XRD pattern exhibited five peaks at an angle of 2θ: 31.70°; 34.4°; 36.2°; and 47.5°. representing the orientation of the crystal planes (100), (002), (101), and (102) of hexagonal lattice. The FESEM images showed that Se doped ZnO with hexagonal face shape. The 0.2 mL Se doped ZnO was the most uniform compared to other samples

    Biosynthesis of Zinc Oxide Powder Using Sandoricum koetjape Peel Extract at Various Annealing Temperature

    Zinc oxide (ZnO) synthesized with natural reductants has attracted the attention of researchers because it is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. In this study, ZnO was prepared using Sandoricum koetjape (S. koetjape) peel extract. An aqueous extract of S. koetjape peel was used as biological reduction agent for the synthesis of ZnO from zinc nitrate hexahydrate. The ZnO powder obtained was annealed at different temperatures i.e, 300°C, 400°C, and 500°C for 1 hour. Structural, morphological, optical properties, and functional groups of samples were analyzed using X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, UV-Vis Spectroscopy, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, respectively. The X-ray diffraction pattern shows that pure hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO particles can be achieved after annealing. The crystal size has also increased with increasing annealing temperature. SEM photo demonstrates the transformation of ZnO particle from spherical to microflower due to annealing. The widest absorption peaks in the UV-Vis spectrum was occurred after annealing at 500°C. The bandgap energy of ZnO increases after annealing from 3.08 eV to 3.20 eV. The FT-IR analysis confirms O-H functional group from extract has been decomposed due to the annealing process. Based on this study, biosynthesized ZnO using Sandoricum koetjape peel extract requires annealing process to improve the purity, enhance the light absorbance and change the microstructure of ZnO

    Enhanced Optical Properties of Ce-Doped ZnO Nanoparticles via A Green Plant-Based Synthesis Approach

    This study investigated the optical properties of Ce-doped ZnO nanoparticles (Ce/ZnO), synthesized using Pandanus ammaryllifolius leaf extract via a green biosynthesis method. Ce doping concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% were applied, and the nanoparticles were annealed at 400 °C for two hours. UV-Vis analysis showed a redshift in the annealed samples, with the wavelength increasing from 368 nm to 370 nm, likely due to particle growth after thermal treatment. In contrast, the unannealed samples exhibited a blueshift, with the maximum absorbance wavelength decreasing from 361 nm to 356 nm. The absorbance values were higher in the annealed samples than in the unannealed ones. The band gap energy of doped ZnO samples decreased slightly after annealing, from 3.20–3.22 eV to 3.15–3.19 eV, indicating improved optical properties. FTIR analysis revealed the presence of Ce–O bonds and functional groups, such as O–H and C–H, with sharper peaks in the annealed samples. The novelty of this study lies in utilizing Pandanus ammaryllifolius leaf extract as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent, providing a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional chemical synthesis methods. The findings suggest that Ce doping enhances the optical properties of ZnO nanoparticles, making them suitable for specific applications in environmental remediation, such as the degradation of organic pollutants, and in technological fields like photocatalytic devices and UV-absorbing materials

    SEED MEDIATED SYNTHESIS OF HEXAGONAL S-DOPED ZnO NANOROD AND ITS PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

    Sulfur-doped zinc oxide (S-ZnO) nanorod has been successfully synthesized via the seed-mediated hydrothermal method with different sulfur concentrations (0%, 1%, 2.5%). This research aims to study the influence of the concentration of sulfur on the structure, morphology, and optical properties of ZnO as a promising material in a wide range of applications.  Crystal structure, morphology, and optical properties of the samples were characterized using  X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Electron Scanning Microscopy (FESEM), and UV-Vis Spectroscopy, respectively. The XRD pattern shows the strongest peak at 2θ = 34.43° for crystal orientation of (002). The crystallinity properties of the S-ZnO sample are higher compared to the ZnO sample.  The FESEM images of the 1% S-ZnO sample exhibit the highest nanorod density arrangement. The optical absorbance of the higher sulfur dopant possesses a higher optical absorption peak on the UV-Vis spectrum.
