Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Segundo o filósofo francês, é característico da diferença intensiva ser independente e irredutível à identidade do gênero. Deste modo, a repartição categorial segundo a qual os múltiplos sentidos do Ser são afirmados no sistema aristotélico consiste, diversamente para Deleuze, numa representação que, ao conferir um ser apenas àquilo que seria uma substância ou que admitiria ser relativo a ela, tem por efeito encobrir o sentido daquilo cuja natureza é desigual em si: ao postular o primado da identidade do gênero, a repartição categorial aristotélica consequentemente nega um ser à afirmação ou ao paradoxo na diferença de intensidade. Deste modo, a nossa investigação procura compreender, num primeiro momento, como a diferenciação uma vez subordinada ao primado da identidade no aristotelismo leva-nos a representar uma equivocidade do ser essencialmente regulada por uma relação de analogia para com uma categoria Primeira, e, num segundo momento, explicitar sob quais termos Deleuze define a natureza disto que ele chama de diferença de intensidade, como o filósofo francês encontra na multiplicidade intensiva a expressão de uma univocidade irredutível ao esquema categorial, mas também de que modo tal diferença de intensidade e tal univocidade são deformadas, na representação, por isto que Deleuze chama de senso comum e bom senso. Palavras-chave: afirmação; diferença categorial; diferença de intensidade; divergência; equivocidade; paradoxo; relação; multiplicidade; univocidade.Abstract: The object of these studies is the relation between univocity and difference of intensity in the philosophy of Deleuze. According to the french philosopher, it is characteristic to intensive difference to be independent and irreducible to the identity of the genus. Thereby, the categorical distribution according to which the multiple senses of Being are affirmed in the aristotelian system consists, differently for Deleuze, in a representation that - granting a being solely to what is a substance or that is relative to it - has as an effect the covering of the sense of that whose nature is unequal in itself: once postulating the primacy of identity, the aristotelian categorical distribution denies consequently a being to the affirmation or paradox in the difference of intensity. Thus, our research seeks to comprehend, firstly, how differentiation subordinated to identity leads us to the representation of an equivocal Being essentially regulated by a relation of analogy to a First category and, secondly, analyze under what terms Deleuze defines the nature of that which he names as difference of intensity, how the philosopher finds in the intensive multiplicity the expression of an univocity irreducible to the categorical structure, but also how difference of intensity and univocity are deformed, in the representation, by that which Deleuze names as common sense and good sense. Acerca do elemento diferencial na Genealogia de Nietzsche na interpretação de Deleuze
Get PDFNa primeira parte da obra Nietzsche e a Filosofia intitulada “O Trágico”, Deleuze abre sua leitura do pensamento de Nietzsche interrogando o conceito de genealogia. A escolha feita pelo pensador transparece uma tentativa de elucidação preliminar do método nietzschiano: nas suas incursões pela busca da proveniência das diversas morais, “das condições e circunstâncias nas quais nasceram”, Nietzsche desenvolve um método para escrutar os solos nos quais os valores são gerados e avaliá-los em seu preciso ponto de criação e ulterior desenvolvimento: “sob que condições o homem inventou para si os juízos de valor “bom” e “mal”? E que valor têm eles? Obstruíram ou promoveram até agora o crescimento do homem?”. Enfatizando a iniciativa nietzschiana de importar os conceitos de sentido e valor à filosofia, Deleuze investiga, nos primeiros movimentos do seu ensaio, a problemática dos valores, ruminando como Nietzsche inaugura uma filosofia dos valores até então sem precedentes e realiza uma “crítica total”. Para que se compreenda o alcance que os valores envergam como componentes elementares na investigação, um esclarecimento de sua natureza é promovido: como são esses valores mesmos? De acordo com Deleuze, por um lado, os valores fundamentam princípios, componentes essenciais a partir dos quais uma apreciação compõe-se, pontuando uma perspectiva de estimação. Todavia, esses valores têm procedência de uma avaliação da qual eles mesmos derivam seus respectivos valores. Em uma relação mais profunda, os valores referentes a uma respectiva apreciação são eles mesmos oriundos de uma criação crítica (avaliativa), que agrega um valor ao fenômeno avaliado. Eis que se mostra a nós a questão que procuramos: perguntar-se pelo valor dos valores é interrogar a proveniência dos valores, perscrutar seu momento de emergência. Em sua criação, há o ato de concepção de uma perspectiva crítica da qual o valor de seus valores correspondentes é determinado, uma avaliação criativa que se define como o elemento diferencial dos valores. Aquilo a partir de que o valor é concebido Deleuze nomeia de elemento diferencial: o valor dos valores encontra sua procedência nesse elemento diferencial. O que quer dizer Deleuze ao caracterizar o elemento diferencial como “sentimento de diferença ou de distância”, ou ainda, que “distância é o elemento diferencial compreendido em cada força”?
