Technology and human behaviour in railway traffic safety // Tecnologia e comportamenti umani nella sicurezza della circolazione ferroviaria
A methodology is here described for quantitative determination of the elements necessary to develop comparative analyses of different technological systems. These systems are characterized by different performances and a different involvement level of the operators both in regular and degraded operational conditions. The guide parameters for this model are both those that typically characterize the technological system reliability (MTBF in particular) and the operational regulation characteristics (quantity, application rate, operators involved, actions to be taken, expected effects, etc.)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
A Meta-Model for composite wingbox sizing in aircraft conceptual design
This works describes the implementation of a semi-analytical representation of the wingbox structure in the conceptual and preliminary design phases, it manages different analysis and design models with different levels of detail and complexity. Starting from the description of the wing with macro-parameters, e.g. airfoils position, spars location, ribs and stringers pitch, the wing is geometrically identified and divided into its components. By providing the structural and material properties to the components, it is possible to realize different FEM models to be used for different analyses.The introduction of the Meta-Model in conceptual design phases improves the description of the wing, providing more realistic models for the weight estimation procedure through physically based aero-servo-elastic sizing and optimization.This approach initializes the aero-structural Digital Twin of the aircraft, which can be used for the health monitoring and maintenance planning of existing aircraft
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Migration to ERTMS for dense traffic lines: investigation methodologies and application to the Stockholm Citybanan case study // Transizione all’ERTMS per le linee a traffico intenso: metodologie di indagine e applicazione al caso di studio della Citybanan di Stoccolma
La capacità dell’infrastruttura ferroviaria dipende da diversi fattori. Tra questi, i sistemi di segnalamento e controllo (CCS) mirano a fornire un funzionamento migliore pur mantenendo prestazioni di sicurezza costanti.
Questo studio intende esaminare gli effetti del livello 3 dell’ERMTS sulla capacità a confronto con il livello 2 dell’ERMTS e al sistema di segnalamento svedese ATC2. Lo studio comprende una valutazione comparativa
basata su strumenti di simulazione microscopica riconosciuti e su metodi analitici adattati allo scopo specifico. Il
caso di studio selezionato è il Southbound della linea suburbana di Stoccolma (Citybanan) analizzato nel periodo
di punta e in varie configurazioni di orario. I risultati dello studio illustrano quantitativamente l’aumento di capacità ottenibile con il livello 3 del l’ERTMSCapacity of infrastructure in Railway de-pends on several factors, between them Control Command and Signalling (CCS) systems aim at providing improved operation by keeping constant safety performances. This study intends to investigate the effects of ERTMS Level 3 on capacity in comparison to ERTMS Level 2 and Swedish signalling system ATC2. The study includes a comparative evaluation based on both recognized microscopic simulation tools and analytical methods, adapted for the specific purposes. The selected case study is the Southbound of city line in Stockholm (Citybanan) in the peak period under various timetable configurations. The study findings illus-trate quantitatively the increase of capacity achievable by ERTMS Level 3
