Estudo etnográfico e bioantropologico do sítio Cerro Grande (escavação Rex Gonzalez 1938-1939, Paraná Pavón - Entre Ríos)
In this work we are interested in addressing the study of the indigenous ancestors and the associated materials that are kept in the Patrimonial Reserve of the Museum of Anthropology (FFyH-UNC) and that were recovered in the archaeological site called Cerro Grande, excavated by Alberto Rex González between 1938-1939, in Paraná Pavón, Entre Ríos. They were patrimonialized in 1962, when González served as director of the Institute of Archeology (FFyH-UNC). Within the framework of the legislation surrounding historical reparations for indigenous peoples, we promote this research that seeks to reconstruct and study the ancestors and materialities from an ethnographic, bioanthropological and museological perspective. This research was carried out in the context of an unprecedented global situation, marked by the pandemic generated by COVID-19, which imposed new ways of working in the anthropological field, on which we want to reflect. Boxnard: Counterstories as Counterpunches
In this talk, Martín makes a connection between counterpunches in the sport of boxing and his community\u27s reputation. He argues that his people from Oxnard are constantly in a fight. However, unlike an ordinary boxing match that takes place in a boxing gym or in a run-down alley, this fight takes place in an entirely different arena—that is, through stories. Every day, negative stories are told about Oxnard, especially its Brown people. Using boxing as a metaphor, Martín suggests that we can change this by punching back through counter-stories. That is, positive stories that empower the community.
Martín Alberto Gonzalez is a Xicano raised in Oxnard, CA. He completed his undergraduate studies at California State University, Northridge. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in the Cultural Foundations of Education Department at Syracuse University, where he became the first Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellow in the university’s history. He is the youngest of seven, yet the only one in his family to go to a four-year university. Because he personally observed his older siblings and his community’s talents and interests be denied and repressed via their schooling, he became interested in educational issues related to Latinx students. He is the author of 21 Miles of Scenic Beauty... and then Oxnard, which is a collection of stories that bring to light various injustices in his city, such as inequitable schooling practices, gentrification, segregation, and so on
How Latino Anti-Blackness Upholds Racism In The United States: A Counterstory Book Review Of Tanya Katerí Hernández’s Racial Innocence
In this piece, the author uses counterstorytelling as a research method to write a book review of Tanya Katerí Hernández’s recently published book, Racial Innocence: Unmasking Latino Anti-Black Bias and the Struggle for Equality. Specifically, in this counterstory, the author created two composite characters, Alberto and his mother, Lola, made up of arguments from the book to engage in a real and critical dialogue about the anti-Blackness amongst Latinos in the United States. Drawing on Hernández’s argument that Latino anti-Blackness upholds racism, the author uses this counterstory to illustrate the various ways Latinos enact anti-Black ideologies and practices to deny Black people good experiences in public spaces, a quality education, work opportunities, housing, and physical and psychological safety. The author argues that counterstorytelling allows him to make research accessible — digestible and understandable — to his community and other Communities of Color who continue to be systematically excluded from academia and knowledge production in higher education
