INVESTIGATION OF THE IMPACT OF BLACK SOOT DEPOSITION ON PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) SOLAR PANEL OUTPUT EFFICIENCY IN AGBOR METROPOLIS, DELTA STATE, NIGERIA
The solar photovoltaic (PV) panel is one of the fundamental components that are used to harness the operation of solar power system. However, its performance is dependent greatly on certain environmental factors and location. This research was focused to investigate the effect of black soot on the output efficiency of solar photovoltaic (PV) panel. The basic studies and operational activity was carried out at a building located in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria (longitude 6.201883 N and latitude 5.6037 E and 86.16m elevations above the sea level). The major materials used for this research include the following; two (2) monocrystalline solar panels (one served as a control ‘clean’ while the other as a device under test ‘sooty’ and a multimeter. The multimeter was used to measure parameters like: short-circuit current ISC and open-circuit voltage VOC while the output power and percentage (%) losses were computed using the measured values. This operation was carried out for a period of three (3) months and the mean values were obtained. From the obtained values, the maximum value of VOC for the control module is 35.7V at12 midday while the corresponding value for the sooty module is 34.3V at the same time. Typically, the total daily output power for the control module was 7103.15W while the corresponding value for the sooty solar module was 4827.38W. This presents 32.04% loss in the power output due to black soot on the surface of the solar panel. Cumulatively, the total output power loss daily ranges from 32.04% to 63.90%
FEMTOCELLS TECHNOLOGY DEPLOYMENT FOR IMPROVED QUALITY OF SERVICE IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Mobile technology has evolved exponentially interms of contents and subscriber growth within the past few decades. This evolution has come with its numerous value added services that are delivered to customers via legacy mobile communications networks that have little or no services within confined areas, homes and offices. This limitation together with high demands for services within indoor environment, have thrown a challenge to mobile operators and manufacturers to come up with solutions for addressing the poor Quality of Service (QoS). The concept offemtocells has been considered to be one of the available techniques for improving the degraded QoS within indoor environment. Femtocell is a compact portable low power home base station that can be connected via home internet access such as home digital subscriber line (DSL), fiber opticbroad band connection or any other available broadband connectivity to extend and improve mobile signal reception and also provide other wireless applications such as data, movies and pictures transfer. This paper provides an overview of femtocell technology applications and deployment scenarios for indoor environment that are characterized by multipath and attenuation which affects the performance of received signal hence degrading the QoS available to customers. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MOBILE (WIRELESS) PHONE CONTROLLED ROBOT
In modern technological innovation, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) method are now applied to do our manual tasks. Robots are becoming common in our homes, public places, industries, entertainment, and relaxation centers hence, we need to control and monitor them for easy and suitable usage. In the research, we have not only proposed but developed a robot that can be controlled by mobile phones through which we can call for some emergency situations for the Fire brigade, Law enforcement agencies (Police, Army), National Emergency Management Agency (MENA), Area Guard so on. This mobile phone-controlled robot is powered by a 9V battery for the system circuit. Whenever the user calls the mobile phone, the call is received by auto-answer mode and as the call is ongoing, the user presses a button on his handset the tone that is generated is decoded by the DTMF decoder, and the command is passed to the pre-programmed microcontroller. The Microcontroller then processes the command signal which activates the motor driver ICs for motion. This system can also be useful in reconnaissance or surveillance and applicable anywhere the GSM network service is active. The designed system is compactable, robust, and cost affordable
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
