Towards an “Intelligent” Tagging Tool for Blogs
No full textTagging allows people to effectively organize web resources such as images, bookmarks or blog articles. Things are found easier by browsing tag clouds relying on the tags that have been assigned before. The success is by large determined by the quality and relevance of tags assigned to content – and so it is dependent on people who do the tagging. We investigate mental processes that underlie tagging. In order to improve quality of tagging, we provide guidelines for users of tagging systems and in addition we suggest features that an “intelligent” tagging tool should bear in order to facilitate the tagging process

Full text linkAktuelle Strategien der Europäischen Union ermutigen Lehrstile, welche die Entwicklung von Einstellungen und Fähigkeiten als Grundlage der Konstruktion von Wissen fördern. Der von Carl Rogers entwickelte und für verschiedene innovative didaktische Settings adaptierte person-zentrierte Ansatz erweist sich als vielversprechede Strategie, erfahrungsgestütztes, ganzheitliches Lernen zu ermöglichen. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werfen wir einen Blick auf person-zentrierte Lehre anhand einer universitären Lerhveranstaltung zur Organisationsentwicklung. Die überwiegende Mehrheit der Studierenden zeigte eindeutige Lernerfolge im Bereich der persönlichen Einstellungen, der sozialen Kompetenzen und auch der intellektuellen Lernziele, wie sowohl aus der qualitativen als auch der quantitativen Evaluierung hervorgeht.

Encountergruppen im Rahmen des ganzheitlichen Lernens an den Universitäten Wien und Brünn - Motivation, Kontext, Prozesse, Perspektiven
Full text linkDie steigende Komplexität unserer Gesellschaft stellt immer neue Anforderungen an exakte jedoch auch einfühlsame Kommunikation. Das Interesse an teamfähigen und konfliktlösungsfähigen Persönlichkeiten wächst, wie auch an neuen Formen des Lehrens und Lernens. Es werden Methoden gesucht, die helfen, das rezeptive Lernen ganzheitlich mit unmittelbaren kommunikativen Prozessen zu ergänzen und neben Fachwissen auch Fertigkeiten und Haltungen einfließen zu lassen. Wir arbeiten mit dem Personzentrierten Ansatz nach C. Rogers, insbesondere mit Encountergruppen, um den Studierenden neue und einmalige Wege ihrer, auch von der Wirtschaft erwünschten, persönlichen Weiterentwicklung zu öffnen. Dabei aktivieren wir subjektive Dispositionen, die eine sinnvolle und konstruktive Verbindung aller Lehr/Lernformen ermöglichen. Wir begannen in Wien mit Workshops, danach folgten Lehrveranstaltungen, welche Encountergruppen beinhalten, wobei wir die ablaufenden Prozesse erforschten. Hier beschreiben wir konkrete Gruppensituationen, reflektieren Lern- und Entwicklungsprozesse und diskutieren die Ergebnisse einer ersten Studie zum Einfluss der Lehrveranstaltung auf persönliche Haltungen der Studierenden. Wenngleich quantitativ vor allem eine höhere Akzeptanz der Studierenden resultierte, folgten aus dem qualitativen Teil differenzierte Aussagen über die Effekte der Lehrveranstaltung. Das Ereichen der Hauptziele der verbesserten Kommunikation, die in Wien und Brünn in Richtung der Berufziele weiter differenziert ist, liegt in den Prozessen der Encountergruppen nach C. Rogers.

Employing the Unified Process for Developing a Web- Based Application – A Case-Study
No full textAbstract. This paper describes the author's experience in applying the Unified Process (UP) to a mid-sized web-based application in cooperation with a small multi-media agency. The peculiarities of the project, which make it an optimal test-bed for exploration, are the project's non-time critical nature, its modest size, the curiosity and openness of all collaborators, and the author's opportunity to accompany the project from a first, vague idea up to the initial operation, and maintenance phase. Rather than documenting each step of the UP, the paper focuses on selected steps and artifacts, discusses the strong and the weak points of the UP as perceived in the concrete project and tries to draw some generalized hypotheses. The paper further touches some key issues of a situational project management style. The case study encourages the use of a tailored version of the UP, given essential preconditions concerning the project and the project team are being met.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
