Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Remarks on Small-Scale Fısherıes in the Lower Sakarya Rıver (Turkey): Exploıted Specıes And Catch Per Unıt Effort (Cpue)
The aim of this study was to determine the exploitation of 7 freshwater species, Freshwater bream (Abramis brama Linnaeus, 1758), Vimba bream (Vimba vimba Linnaeus, 1758), Wels catfish (Silurus glanis Linnaeus, 1758), Roach (Rutilus rutilus Linnaeus, 1758), European perch (Perca fluviatilis Linnaeus, 1758), Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio Bloch, 1782) and White bream (Blicca bjoerkna Linnaeus, 1758), from Lower Sakarya River, Turkey. Samplings were conducted from June 2017 to May 2018. Length-based estimations were evaluated in FiSAT II software. Total (Z), natural (M), fishing (Fcurr) mortality, exploitation rate (Ecurr) and CPUEs of all 7 species were determined. Results showed that almost all reference points stayed below the natural and fisheries mortality values. Besides overfishing, pollutants (chemical, physical and biological) and changes in the river morphology may affect the fish populations. Study results could be used for further fisheries management applications
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Köyceğiz Lagünü’nden (Türkiye) avlanan kefal türlerinin boy-ağırlık, boy-boy ilişkileri ve kondüsyon faktörü
The relationships between length-weight, length-length parameters and condition factor were given for four grey mullet species that caught in Köyceğiz Lagoon area between January 2017 and December 2017. Total length and weight ranged from 6.2-39.3 cm and 2.34-508.38 g for Chelon auratus, 8.9-47.6 cm and 8.61-1006.5 g for Mugil cephalus, 5.0-37.7 cm and 1.62-478.90 g for Chelon labrosus and 3.8-35.2 cm and 0.52-462.88 g for Chelon saliens. The length-weight relationships were determined for C. auratus, M. cephalus, C. labrosus and C. saliens as W =0.0087L2.96 , W=0.0106L2.95 , W=0.0073L3.06 and W=0.0067L3.04 respectively. All the fish species showed isometric growth (b=3). It was observed that there were strong correlations between total length, fork length and standard length of 4 fish species (P<0.001). Also, the condition factor values range between 0.56-1.30 for C. auratus, 0.66-1.22 for M. cephalus, 0.64-1.30 for C. labrosus, 0.57-1.06 for C. saliens.Ocak 2017-Aralık 2017 tarihleri arasında Köyceğiz Lagününden avlanan dört farklı kefal türünün boy-ağırlık, boy-boy parametreleri ve kondüsyon faktörü değerleri verilmiştir. Age, growth, mortality, reproduction, and exploitation rates for fishery management of grey mullet species in the Köyceğiz Lagoon–Estuary (Mediterranean coast)
Background. The Mugilidae is a widely distributed family in the tropical, subtropical, and temperate waters. These fish species have a global economic value because of the high quality of their flesh and caviar. This study provides new data on the age, growth, and reproduction parameters of commercially exploited grey mullets from the Köyceğiz Lagoon, Turkey, namely golden grey mullet, Chelon auratus (Risso, 1810), leaping mullet, Chelon saliens (Risso, 1810), thicklip grey mullet, Chelon labrosus (Risso, 1827), and flathead grey mullet, and Mugil cephalus Linnaeus, 1758. The obtained results are intended for fisheries management of golden mullets in the area. Materials and methods. A total of 1195 fish specimens were collected from the Köyceğiz Lagoon (south-western Anatolia). The mullets were caught monthly, between January 2017 and December 2017, using fish barrier, trammel net, beach seine, and cast-net. The fish age was determined from sagittal otoliths. Growth parameters were determined by applying the von Bertalanffy growth function. Reproduction period, mortality and exploitation, relative yield per recruit (Y′/R), and biomass per recruit (B′/R) were determined. Results. The most frequent mullet age groups were 3+ and 4+ (for M. cephalus and C. labrosus) and 4+ (for C. auratus and C. saliens). The following von Bertalanffy’s growth models were calculated: Lt = 58.78(1 – e–0.163(t + 0.0195)) for C. auratus, Lt = 59.99(11 – e–0.169(t + 0.0132)) for M. cephalus, Lt = 49.77(111 – e–0.193(t + 0.0293)) for C. labrosus, and Lt = 46.41(111 – e–0.232(t + 0.0283)) for C. saliens. The growth performance index (Ø′) for C. auratus, M. cephalus, C. labrosus, and C. saliens was calculated as 2.750, 2.772, 2.679, and 2.698, respectively. The reproduction periods of C. auratus, M. cephalus, C. labrosus, and C. saliens were found as October–January, June–September, December–March, and April–July, respectively. The exploitation rate E was determined for C. auratus, M. cephalus, C. labrosus, and C. saliens as 0.68, 0.80, 0.66, and 0.62 year–1, respectively. Conclusion. Fisheries management policies need to be established and implemented immediately in the Köyceğiz Lagoon considering the intense fishing pressure, environmental pollution, and tourism
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
