PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN MATERI AJAR MENULIS ESAI DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS BERBASIS PENDEKATAN PROSES-GENRE TERHADAP PENINGKATAN KEMAMPUAN MAHASISWA DI DALAM MENULIS ESAI BERBAHASA INGGRIS
The appropriate teaching/learning materials are needed in improving the students’ skills in writing an essay. This research aims at proving the effect of using the complete teaching/learning materials for writing essays based on the ‘process genre’ approach on the improvement of students’ ability in writing English essays. The design of the research was a pre-post control group experiment. The population of the research was students of English Language Teaching Study Program of State University of Padang and two classes of students were chosen through cluster sampling technique as the sample of research. The result of the research shows that the materials are effective enough in improving students’ skills in writing different types of essays and after several revisions, the final product of the materials consists of student book, student workbook, and teacher’s manual. Thus it can be concluded that this new materials can be well implemented in the teaching and learning essay writing at the English Language Teaching Study Program of State University of Padang.
 
Pengaruh Etos Kerja Terhadap Employee Voice Pada Pegawai Lapas Pekanbaru
Voice is communication between employees and other employees regarding problems that occur to be evaluated to superiors for changes for the better. Voice is needed for this change to occur. One of the factors that can increase the voice is work ethic. This study aims to determine the effect of work ethic on employee voice. The data collection method used in this study is using an employee voice scale consisting of 25 items and a work ethic scale consisting of 24 scales. The total population in this study were 126 employees using the saturated sample technique. Based on the results of hypothesis testing using a simple linear regression analysis test technique that has been carried out, it shows the t value of 15,502 that the significance is 0.000 (p <0.05). This means that there is a significant influence between work ethic and employee voice. This means that there is a significant influence between work ethic on employee voice for prison employees in Pekanbaru which is positive. The effective contribution of the work ethic variable is 66.0% while the remaining 34.0% is determined by other variables besides this study
LEARNING STYLES AND TEXTBOOK DESIGN: A CASE STUDY OF 'BAHASA INGGRIS WORK IN PROGRESS' FOR TENTH GRADE
Textbooks can provide effectiveness and efficiency in the learning process for both teachers and students. Meanwhile, learning styles are individual or student preferences in processing information, which are generally categorized into visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Therefore, textbooks should accommodate learning styles in a balanced way for a more efficient and effective learning process. This study aims to analyze the learning styles accommodated by the textbook 'Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress' for grade ten. The approach used was descriptive quantitative, with research instruments developed based on Priyatna's (2013) and Bobbi & Mike's (2015) theories. Data analysis was conducted by three independent analyzers to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the results. The research findings show that this textbook accommodates visual learning styles by 39%, auditory by 31%, and kinesthetic by 30%. This result shows a relatively balanced distribution in supporting the three types of learning styles. This research highlights the importance of diversifying teaching methods in textbooks to create an inclusive and effective learning environment. As such, it makes a meaningful contribution to the development of textbooks and teaching strategies that are more responsive to students' learning needs
The Voices of Alumni in Curriculum Development: A Step to Meet the Standards of the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA)
One of some important things that the curriculum has or the primary objective of the curriculum itself is to meet the learning outcomes and target for the current needs and necessity. By designing the new curriculum and match it to the international standard of curriculum based on the Asean University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), it expected that the needs of the students are achieved. However, the change of a curriculum cannot be carried out without the roles of Alumni as one of stakeholders. This article aimed to discuss the opinions and suggestions to the curriculum change from the alumni of English Department Faculty of Languages and Arts Universitas Negeri Padang as the Community who had experiences in seeking and staying for jobs both education and non education field. Under the guidance of need analysis theory, the questionnaires of needs of students were delivered to the several representatives of alumni. The findings showed that based on the some who had worked in education fields, from the four aspects of competence, the knowledge and skills of how to diagnose the students’ characteristics is needed and they have to have the skill in ICT, the knowledge about the trends in language teaching, and the attitude of how to use the language in a good way in social life is also needed. Then, for the personal competence, most of them agreed that the aspect of religion have to be had by the college students. From the other ones who work on the non-education fields, they suggested that the knowledge of how to report and analyze data is needed.Key words: Curriculum Development, Needs of Students, PERNYATAAN DARI ALUMNI DALAM PENGEMBANGAN KURIKULUM: SEBUAH TAHAPAN MENCAPAI STANDAR-STANDAR YANG DITETAPKAN OLEH ASEAN UNIVERSITY NETWORK QUALITY ASSURANCE (AUN-QA)AbstrakMencapai kurikulum yang baik dan mengaitkannya dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa adalah suatu keharusan. Salah satu dari beberapa hal penting yang dimiliki kurikulum atau tujuan utama kurikulum itu sendiri adalah untuk mencapai hasil pembelajaran dan target kebutuhan saat ini. Dengan merancang kurikulum baru dan mencocokkannya dengan standar kurikulum internasional berdasarkan Jaminan Mutu Jaringan Asean (AUN-QA), diharapkan kebutuhan siswa tercapai. Namun, perubahan kurikulum tidak bisa dilakukan tanpa peran Alumni sebagai salah satu pemegang peranan penting. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk membahas pendapat dan saran terhadap perubahan kurikulum dari alumni Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Padang sebagai Komunitas yang memiliki pengalaman dalam mencari pekerjaan baik di bidang pendidikan maupun non pendidikan. Berdasarkan teori analisis kebutuhan, kuesioner kebutuhan siswa disampaikan ke beberapa perwakilan alumni. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa beberapa orang yang pernah bekerja di bidang pendidikan, dari empat aspek kompetensi, pengetahuan dan keterampilan bagaimana mendiagnosis karakteristik siswa sangat dibutuhkan dan mereka harus memiliki keterampilan di bidang TIK (Kompetensi Pedagogik). Selain itu, pengetahuan tentang trend pengajaran bahasa juga dibutuhkan (Professional Competence). Apalagi sikap bagaimana menggunakan bahasa dengan cara yang baik dalam kehidupan sosial juga dibutuhkan (Social Competence). Kemudian, untuk kompetensi personal, kebanyakan dari mereka sepakat bahwa aspek agama harus dimiliki oleh mahasiswa. Dari para alumni yang bekerja di bidang non-pendidikan, mereka menyarankan agar pengetahuan tentang bagaimana melaporkan dan menganalisa data sangat dibutuhkan.Kata kunci: Pengembangan Kurikulum, Kebutuhan Mahasiswa</jats:p
PISA reading literacy assessment and senior high school reading literacy assessments: How do they differ?
The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is an international program assessment to evaluate and determine the education system's effectiveness by focusing on reading, mathematics, and science. This study aims to analyze the differences between PISA reading literacy assessment and senior high school reading literacy assessment in West Sumatera. Reading literacy is abilities and skills in reading needed in everyday life to develop students' knowledge and potential. The method of this study was comparative method. Data were taken from PISA reading literacy 2018, which OECD published, and reading tests made by English teachers from ten Senior High Schools in West Sumatera. In addition, this study used document analysis to collect the data. The differences between PISA reading literacy assessment and reading literacy assessment at senior high school were seen from eight indicators: cognitive process, form of text, types of text, form of test, situation, types of question, level of question, text medium, and text environment. It was found that PISA reading literacy assessment was more complex compared to reading literacy assessment at senior high school
