Public Debt and J.S. Mill’s Conjecture: A Note
Classical economists mainly Smith, Ricardo and J.S. Mill abhorred public debts because of their interference with capital accumulation. J.S. Mill in particular envisaged that a rising public debt leads to higher interest rates and falling real wages, a combination which may be consistent with a mildly increasing trend in the profit rate

Usage notes and labelling practicies in J.S. Bandtkie’s dictionary – types, functions and frequency
Usage notes and labelling practicies in J.S. Bandtkie’s dictionary – types, functions and frequency. The present text discusses the issues related to the phenomenon that is enormously important for the study of historical lexicography, namely the issue of usage notes and labelling practices used in dictionaries. The author focuses on the types of stylistic and context markers used in the dictionary compiled by J.S. Bandtkie, their differentiation and estimated frequency of application (frequency of occurrence of given markers against others), and the consistency in the application of specific solutions by the author of the dictionary. Special attention is given to some of the aspects of the use of grammatical information in J.S. Bandtkie’s work and to the consistency in using given
adopted solutions. The article also includes some general remarks on the scientific
merit of the dictionary, one of the most extensive, as far as the lexical resources are concerned, historical dictionaries of the Polish language

The optimum currency area case for EMU: a structural VAR approach
In order to examine the optimum currency area case for EMU, we estimate structural VARs in output, the real exchange rate and prices for 14 EU countries and a small control sample. Using quarterly data since the end of bretton Woods, we find that (1) the data are strongly correlated for the majority of EU countries and the G6; (2) output and real exchange rate fluctuations are largely driven by real shocks; (3) primitive real and nominal shocks are no more correlated in absolute terms across the EU-core than the EU-periphery; (4) and G6 countries appear to be no less correlated than such a core; and (5) the response of output, real exchange rates and prices to identified IS and LM shocks are similar across all these economies. We are unable to answer the question of whether a group of countries constitute an OCA because we cannot gauge the required threshold of commonality. By examining rankings of correlations we are able to suggest, however, that a set of EU countries look relatively close to Germany but that this set look no closer to Germany than other large OECD economies
