F.F. Bosworth's Advice to A.W. Tozer
Copyright (c) 2018 by Roscoe Barnes III#FFBosworthI have argued for over a decade that F.F. Bosworth matters, and he matters in a significant way, especially in Pentecostal Church History. This article shows how Bosworth's influence extended to church leaders outside the Pentecostal tradition. Using Lyle Dorsett's book as a reference, it presents Bosworth's advice to a young A.W. Tozer, who would go on to become a famous author of deeper life books. Both men were members of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Bosworth spoke to Tozer about the ministry of healing and speaking in tongues.NOTE: For more information on F.F. Data for: "Alum treatments improve water quality and increase native macrophyte occurrence, but invasive macrophyte responses are mixed"
This repository contains the data and R code used in the analysis for Hembre, K.M., R.M. Newman, A.W. Bajcz. 2026. Alum treatments improve water quality and increase native macrophyte occurrence but invasive macrophyte responses are mixed. Lake and Reservoir Management. Data from seven lakes spanning 2011 to 2023 were used in the analysis. The two data files are WaterQualityFixLRM, which includes Secchi depth and epilimnetic total phosphorus data and SAVfinal, which includes point intercept frequency of occurrence for total plants, native plants, and the invasive plants Eurasian watermilfoil and curly-leaf pondweed for all of the lakes. The file PvaluesModelsUSGS contains the p-values generated for each of the GLMER models used within this analysis. The analysis files with the R code (rmd) and the associated output (html) include: LRM_TP_Analysis (the Total Phosphorus Analysis), LRM_Secchi_Analysis (Secchi depth analysis), LRM_AquaticPlant_Analysis (total, native and invasive plant analysis), LRM_IndividualLake_Analysis (TP, Secchi and Plant analyses by individual lake), LRM_USGS_PvalueAdjust (a model assessment analysis)and LRM_RawMeans (computation and plotting of raw means for final graphics).Aluminum sulfate (alum) treatments are commonly used to reduce internal phosphorus loading in lakes, which improves water clarity and potentially enhances macrophyte growth. Despite increasing use of alum to improve lake water quality, few studies have directly examined subsequent macrophyte responses to alum treatments. We investigated the effects of alum treatments on water quality and aquatic macrophytes in seven lakes in the upper midwestern USA. These lakes each had several years of pre- and post-alum treatment data for water quality and macrophytes, spanning 2011 to 2023, and received two or more split-dose alum treatments (total dose divided across two or more treatment years). Most lakes were also being actively managed to control invasive aquatic plants with herbicide. We assessed for pre-, during-, and post-alum-treatment differences in epilimnetic total phosphorus (TP), Secchi depth, and total, native, and invasive plant frequency of occurrence. Using generalized regression models, we found epilimnetic TP decreased and Secchi depth increased significantly after alum treatments (P < 0.001). Frequency of occurrence of both total and native macrophytes increased significantly (P < 0.001) following alum treatment, coincident with the subsequent increase in water clarity. Invasive macrophyte responses were variable, with curly-leaf pondweed showing no significant response and Eurasian watermilfoil exhibiting mixed outcomes after alum treatment. Management with herbicides likely influenced invasive plant response. To maximize the water quality effectiveness of alum treatments, planning for aquatic plant responses should be a key component of the treatment strategy. Letter from Usami Terada to Mr. A.W. Thomas, February 7, 1945
A letter from Usami Terada, an incarceree at the Rohwer incarceration camp, to a Mr. A.W. Thomas in Lawndale, California. In the letter, Usami discusses about returning to California and asks Mr. Thomas how Lawndale has changed during the past three years. He also asks for photographs of Mr. Thomas' family, Terada's home, and their neighbor, Masumoto's home. Transcript was provided by the donor and is available: csudh_nis_9024.The James H. Osborne Nisei Collection contains mainly correspondence between Emiko and Usami Terada, incarcerees in the Rohwer incarceration camp, McGehee Arkansas, and the Thomas family in Lawndale, California, and photographs of the Teradas and the Thomases. The letters describe the trip from the Santa Anita Temporary Assembly Center to the Rohwer incarceration camp, their lives and conditions in the camp, and their concerns about their properties in Lawndale, California. Also included are photographs taken in the camp, some issues of "The Rohwer outpost," and fliers published during wartime
