    Training the sages of integrity

    No full text
    Drawing on his experience in the field and his familiarity with theatrical techniques, Marian Popescu offers us a stimulating reflection on what he ends up calling academic "integrative ethics" and on the role that "wise men of integrity" should play in its implementation. The author develops his proposal by understanding the historical flaws and advances in the field of character education. The training, combining cognitive devices and communicative and dramatic skills of these experts, mediators and referents appears, in his view, to be the key element in the current fight for integrity

Patents, Romania, Certificate no. 103488.Author Institution: Research Institute for Electrical EngineeringA method is presented for dissociation of diatomic molecules, found in a precisely defined atmosphere, through successive absorption of a quantum energy generated by laser effect, at a certain frequency and a certain density of energy, until the energy in this way accumulated became equal with the dissociation energy. The method, based on some of the results previously publishedapublished^{a}, has a better output than classical methods (in which the molecules are bombarded with particles having appropriate energy), allowing practically entire dissociation of all molecules which from that atmosphere. Applying my theoretical results, I have obtained and elaborated a new practical method of ozone productionbproduction^{b}, whose efficiency exceeds those of classical methods, using Corona discharge or UV radiation. The extract quantum fluctuation theory, proposed by H. Collen in 1935 and T. Welton in 1951, was used in the present work to determine the probability of the process of molecular dissociation using successive multiphotonic excitation

    HOAS on top of FOAS formalized in Isabelle/HOL

    No full text
    "This collection of documents presents the Isabelle formalization of Higher-Order Abstract Syntax (HOAS) as a definitional layer on top of First-Order Abstract Syntax (FOAS). The formal scripts shown here are provided as a technical companion to the paper ""HOAS on top of FOAS"" to be presented at LICS 2010 (and to its more detailed technical report version). They work with Isabelle2009-1. The scripts are currently under (intensive!) development. To obtain the latest version of the theory, please contact the author at [email protected]."Submitted by Andrei Popescu ([email protected]) on 2010-04-30T20:52:24Z No. of bitstreams: 1 HOASOnTopOfFOAS.zip: 3276637 bytes, checksum: 4fb0f88daf1c22f0203faa10ef17ed44 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2010-04-30T20:52:24Z (GMT). Calabi–Yau threefolds and moduli of abelian surfaces I

    We describe birational models and decide the rationality/unirationality of moduli spaces A\cal Ad (and A\cal Alevd) of (1, d)-polarized Abelian surfaces (with canonical level structure, respectively) for small values of d. The projective lines identified in the rational/unirational moduli spaces correspond to pencils of Abelian surfaces traced on nodal threefolds living naturally in the corresponding ambient projective spaces, and whose small resolutions are new Calabi–Yau threefolds with Euler characteristic zero

    Design-to-Fabrication Workflow for Bending-Active Gridshells as Stay-in-Place Falsework and Reinforcement for Ribbed Concrete Shell Structures

    Facing the challenges of our environmental crisis, the AEC sector must significantly lower its carbon footprint and use of first-use resources. A specific target is the reduction of the amount of concrete used. Funicular structures that base their strength on their structurally-informed geometry allow for material efficiency. However, a bottleneck for their construction lies in their costly and wasteful formworks and complex reinforcement placement.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Applied Mechanic

    Euler factors of equivariant LL--functions of Drinfeld modules and beyond

    No full text
    In \cite{FGHP}, the first author and his collaborators proved an equivariant Tamagawa number formula for the special value at s=0s=0 of a Goss--type LL--function, equivariant with respect to a Galois group GG, and associated to a Drinfeld module defined on Fq[t]\Bbb F_q[t] and over a finite, integral extension of Fq[t]\Bbb F_q[t]. The formula in question was proved provided that the values at 00 of the Euler factors of the equivariant LL--function in question satisfy certain identities involving Fitting ideals of certain GG--cohomologically trivial, finite Fq[t][G]\Bbb F_q[t][G]--modules associated to the Drinfeld module. In \cite{FGHP}, we prove these identities in the particular case of the Carlitz module. In this paper, we develop general techniques and prove the identities in question for arbitrary Drinfeld modules. Further, we indicate how these techniques can be extended to the more general case of higher dimensional abelian tt--modules, which is relevant in the context of the proof of the equivariant Tamagawa number formula for abelian tt--modules given by N. Green and the first author in \cite{Green-Popescu}. This paper is based on a lecture given by the first author at ICMAT Madrid in May 2023 and builds upon results obtained by the second author in his PhD thesis \cite{Ramachandran-thesis}
