The manuscript is complete and is in its original form. The writer used the Mashriqi script.This Yoruba Ajami text written in 2020 is a biography of Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a Nigerian activist, feminist, and the first woman in Abeokuta to drive a car. She is recognized as the first female Nigerian political activist. She is lovingly called as “The Mother of Africa.” Her full name is Francis Abigail Olufunmilayo Thomas. Mrs. Chief Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was born on October 25, 1900 to Lucretia Phyllis Omoyeni Adeosulu and Daniel Olumeyuwa Thomas. She attended the Abeokuta Grammar School and completed her education in England. She returned to Nigeria and became a teacher. Chief Funmilayo was then married to Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti in 1925. She became the leader of the Nigerian Union of Students and later joined the Nigerian Union of Teachers. This Anjemi text (Ajami in Yoruba) also highlights Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti's educational, social, and political struggles as an activist, politician, and educator in Nigeria who fought for gender equality and started a campaign to help Nigerian women obtain the right to drive a car. She created the Commoners' People's Party to challenge the ruling National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC). During the Cold War, Funmilayo Kuti traveled to several countries of the Eastern Bloc, including USSR, China and Hungary. Mao Zedong met with her in 1956. She was one of the most influential people who negotiated for the independence of her country with British authorities. She died at 77 after receiving injuries from a military raid on her family property. Chief Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti is the mother of the renowned Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti (October 15, 1938–August 2, 1997) who championed Afrobeat music.The contents of this collection were developed with support of the Title VI National Resource Center grant # P015A180164 from the U.S. Department of Education. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Simulation of thermal plant optimization and hydraulic aspects of thermal distribution loops for large campuses
No full textFollowing an introduction, the author describes Texas A&M University and its utilities system. After that, the author presents how to construct simulation models for chilled water and heating hot water distribution systems. The simulation model was used in a $2.3 million Ross Street chilled water pipe replacement project at Texas A&M University. A second project conducted at the University of Texas at San Antonio was used as an example to demonstrate how to identify and design an optimal distribution system by using a simulation model. The author found that the minor losses of these closed loop thermal distribution systems are significantly higher than potable water distribution systems. In the second part of the report, the author presents the latest development of software called the Plant Optimization Program, which can simulate cogeneration plant operation, estimate its operation cost and provide optimized operation suggestions. The author also developed detailed simulation models for a gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator and identified significant potential savings. Finally, the author also used a steam turbine as an example to present a multi-regression method on constructing simulation models by using basic statistics and optimization algorithms. This report presents a survey of the author??s working experience at the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M University during the period of January 2002 through March 2004. The purpose of the above work was to allow the author to become familiar with the practice of engineering. The result is that the author knows how to complete a project from start to finish and understands how both technical and nontechnical aspects of a project need to be considered in order to ensure a quality deliverable and bring a project to successful completion. This report concludes that the objectives of the internship were successfully accomplished and that the requirements for the degree of Degree of Engineering have been satisfied
Transcellular biosynthesis of cysteinyl leukotrienes in vivo during mouse peritoneal inflammation
No full textLeukotrienes (LTs) are lipid mediators of inflammation formed by enzymatic oxidation of arachidonic acid. One intriguing aspect of LT production is transcellular biosynthesis: cells expressing 5-lipoxygenase (5LO) form LTA(4) and transfer it to cells expressing LTA(4) hydrolase (LTA(4)H) or LTC(4) synthase (LTC(4)S) to produce LTB(4) or LTC(4). This process has been demonstrated in vivo for LTB(4), but not for cysteinyl LTs (cysLTs). We examined transcellular cysLT synthesis during zymosan-induced peritonitis, using bone marrow transplants with transgenic mice deficient in key enzymes of LT synthesis and analyzing all eicosanoids by liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. WT mice time-dependently produced LTB(4) and cysLTs (LTC(4), LTD(4), and LTE(4)). 5LO(-/-) mice were incapable of producing LTs. WT bone marrow cells restored this biosynthetic ability, but 5LO(-/-) bone marrow did not rescue LT synthesis in irradiated WT mice, demonstrating that bone marrow-derived cells are the ultimate source of all LTs in this model. Total levels of 5LO-derived products were comparable in LTA(4)H(-/-) and WT mice, but were reduced in LTC(4)S(-/-) animals. No differences in prostaglandin production were observed between these transgenic or chimeric mice. Bone marrow cells from LTA(4)H(-/-) or LTC(4)S(-/-) mice injected into 5LO(-/-) mice restored the ability to synthesize LTB(4) and cysLTs, providing unequivocal evidence of efficient transcellular biosynthesis of cysLTs.
