Hybrid hyperinterpolation over general regions
We present an l22+l1-regularized discrete least squares approximation over general regions under assumptions of hyperinterpolation, named hybrid hyperinterpolation. Hybrid hyperinterpolation, using a soft thresholding operator and a filter function to shrink the Fourier coefficients approximated by a high-order quadrature rule of a given continuous function with respect to some orthonormal basis, is a combination of Lasso and filtered hyperinterpolations. Hybrid hyperinterpolation inherits features of them to deal with noisy data once the regularization parameter and the filter function are well chosen. We derive L2 errors in theoretical analysis for hybrid hyperinterpolation to approximate continuous functions with noise data on sampling points. Numerical examples illustrate the theoretical results and show that well chosen regularization parameters can enhance the approximation quality over the unit-sphere and the union of disks

Towards juristocracy: the origins and consequences of the new constitutionalism
In countries and supranational entities around the globe, constitutional reform has transferred an unprecedented amount of power from representative institutions to judiciaries. The constitutionalization of rights and the establishment of judicial review are widely believed to have benevolent and progressive origins, and significant redistributive, power-diffusing consequences. Ran Hirschl challenges this conventional wisdom

Security Analysis and Implementation of Malicious Applications in 5G O-RAN Architecture
The thesis project aims to study security vulnerabilities in 5G O-RAN architecture, focusing on xApps. The study will include an in-depth analysis of the O-RAN ecosystem and associated technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), followed by an examination of potential attack surfaces that xApps can exploit. The practical component will involve developing demonstrative malicious applications in a controlled environment to verify the impact on network security. The ultimate goal is to identify possible countermeasures to protect this innovative architecture from emerging threats

Analysis of security at the Near-real-time RIC xApps based on O-RAN-defined use cases
openThe Open Radio Access Network Alliance (O-RAN Alliance) is a group of industry and academic organizations that strive to realize the vision of next-generation cellular networks. Using standardized interfaces, telecommunications operators can operate multi-vendor infrastructure and deliver high-speed services to their mobile users. Additionally, the O-RAN Alliance has standardized an Open Radio Access Network (RAN) architecture based on the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and other standards. User planes and control planes are currently separate in RAN architecture. The separation makes it easier to accommodate network function virtualization methods required for 5G, enabling it to be more flexible. To help in the management of resources, the O-RAN standard proposes the use of xApps, i.e., dedicated applications that can be customly installed by the network operatior and that can be purchased from different vendors. For this reason, securely managing xApps represents a significant challenge for the security of the overall network.\\
In this thesis, we analyze the security of xApps and their proposed use cases. Based on the applications porposed by the O-RAN alliance, we provide an in depth analysis of the vulnerabilities and their impact on the network. We also discuss different features of attacks, such as reproducibility, stealthiness, exposure, and impact. Based on our analysis, we conclude that significant work is still to be made to guarantee the security of O-RAN and in particular of its xApps. This thesis hence provides a baseline for future research in the domain of security and privacy for next generation communication network
Open RAN security : Challenges and opportunities
AbstractOpen RAN (ORAN, O-RAN) represents a novel industry-level standard for RAN (Radio Access Network), which defines interfaces that support inter-operation between vendors’ equipment and offer network flexibility at a lower cost. Open RAN integrates the benefits and advancements of network softwarization and Artificial Intelligence to enhance the operation of RAN devices and operations. Open RAN offers new possibilities so different stakeholders can develop the RAN solution in this open ecosystem. However, the benefits of Open RAN bring new security and privacy challenges. As Open RAN offers an entirely different RAN configuration than what exists today, it could lead to severe security and privacy issues if mismanaged, and stakeholders are understandably taking a cautious approach towards the security of Open RAN deployment. In particular, this paper analyzes the security and privacy risks and challenges associated with Open RAN architecture. Then, it discusses possible security and privacy solutions to secure Open RAN architecture and presents relevant security standardization efforts relevant to Open RAN security. Finally, we discuss how Open RAN can be used to deploy more advanced security and privacy solutions in 5G and beyond RAN.Abstract
