Participation in Participatory Budgeting - Replication

    No full text
This is the pre-registration of a replication of the survey experiment described in "Participation in Participatory Budgeting" among a representative sample of the Dutch population recruited by the surveying company Dynata. The hypotheses, design and analysis plan are the same, except for: (a) the population (general Dutch population); (b) the introduction to the vignette to fit with the new population of citizens; and (c) the analyses (i.e. (i) there is no manipulation check in the survey so we cannot account for responses to such a question in the analyses; (ii) we can only run as a robustness check a regression analysis with controls for age, gender, and level of education)

    Inferred Deliberation Experiment

    No full text
This is the pre-registration of a survey experiment on deliberation. It seeks to verify the validity of a survey measure to capture citizens’ propensity to deliberate. We ask all participants to read about a specific discussion setting and then ask them to imagine what the respective discussion would be like. We then randomly assign them to one of two sets of questions: either they answer questions about how likely it would be for themselves to deliberate OR about the likelihood of others to engage in deliberation. We compare these data to a real-life case of citizen discussions that matches the characteristics of the discussion setting in the vignette read by the participants
