Advanced textiles for wound compression
The application of compression textiles in managing venous leg ulcers is discussed. The classification of compression bandages, merits and limitations of the current compression therapy regimen, and the research into the development of novel orthopaedic padding and compression bandages are highlighted. The role of compression therapy in the treatment of oedema, varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is outlined. Research and development of a novel single-layer 3D spacer bandage, which replaces the existing multilayer bandage regime, is discussed
Effects of substrate morphology and ageing on cycle performance of a Sn-anode fabricated by electroplating
The effects of Cu substrate morphology and ageing on the cycle performance of a Sn-anode electroplated on a smooth, a pyramid and a nodule-type Cu substrate and aged at 200 degrees C for 0, 1, 5, 20 h in a vacuum were examined. The Sn-anode electroplated on the nodule-type Cu substrate and aged for 1 h exhibited the highest reversible capacity (up to similar to 600 mAh g(-1)) and a stable cycle performance, which resulted from the enhancement in adhesion and electrical contact properties between the Sn layer and the Cu substrate by the mechanical interlocking effect of the nodule-type Cu substrate and also by the buffering effects of an intermetallic compound formed by the ageing process. However, when aged for longer than 1 h at 200 degrees C, the reversible capacity of the Sn-anode decreased significantly due to the formation of an inactive Cu3Sn phase, irrespective of the morphology of the Cu substrate. Spotlight on circadian genes and colorectal cancer crosstalk
Mammalian physiology is regulated by circadian clock through oscillating feedback loops controlling cellular processes and behaviors. Recent findings have led to an interesting connection between circadian disruption and colorectal cancer progression and incidence through controlling the hallmarks of cancer, namely cell cycle, cell metabolism and cell death. Deeper understanding of the circadian mechanisms that define the colorectal cancer pathophysiology is the need of the hour to define a chronotherapy for improving colorectal cancer patient survival. This review identifies the key areas in which circadian genes interact with cellular pathways to modify the outcome with respect to colorectal cancer incidence and progression
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Vibrational analysis of germyl isothiocyanate and its isotope
A complete vibrational analysis of the germyl isothiocyanate and its isotope is described in this paper. A general Valence Force Field has been computed for these molecules, belonging to C3v symmetry, using the fundamental frequencies obtained from the Raman and Infrared spectra. The mean square amplitudes, shrinkage constants, Coriolis coupling constants, Centrifugal distortion constants and thermodynamic quantities have also been calculated for the first time and presented here.Natarajan A., Rajendran S.
