Education, Society, and the Individual: Reflections on the Work of Hermann Hesse
This paper analyzes the relationship between the individual and society in the work of Hermann Hesse. Paying particular attention to Hesse\u27s last novel, The Glass Bead Game, the author argues (a) that for Hesse "self\u27 and "society" are dynamically intertwined and (b) that education plays a key role in linking the two together

Abstract: how to construct a metaphysical experience in literature? Starting from this question, the present article tries to reflect about the construction of an emancipatory-type metaphysical experience in Clarice Lispector and Hermann Hesse through a comparative analysis of two novels from each author. Based on Benedito Nunes and its analysis of Clarice Lispector, some Heidegger\u27s concepts are going to be used in order to structure the discussion of each work. Keywords: Dasein; Metaphysics; Clarice Lispector; Hermann Hesse; Comparative Literature
Hermann Hesse and Attractiveness of Southern Ticino
The article connects an author, Hermann Hesse, with Ticino, the region that he made his own. Noting that all writers’ museums are similar in the material they display and sell, the text develops, from a humanistic geographical perspective, the author’s attachment to places and landscapes, and identifies the basic geographical experience of the visitor. In conclusion it dwells on the visionary role of the artist in terms of future land use conflicts
Copyright and Creativity: Authors and Photographers
The history of the occupations “author” and “photographer” provides an insightful perspective on copyright and creativity. The concept of the romantic author, associated with personal creative genius, gained prominence in the eighteenth century. However, in the U.S. in 1900 only about three thousand persons professed their occupation to be “author.” Self-professed “photographers” were then about ten times as numerous as authors. Being a photographer was associated with manufacturing and depended only on mastering technical skills and making a living. Being an author, in contrast, was an elite status associated with science and literature. Across the twentieth century, the number of writers and authors grew much more rapidly than the number of photographers. The relative success of writers and authors in creating jobs seems to have depended not on differences in copyright or possibilities for self- production, but on greater occupational innovation. Creativity in organizing daily work is an important form of creativity.occupations, authors, photographers, copyright law, economic history
Josef Albers, Eva Hesse, and the Imperative of Teaching
This paper examines affinities between the Bauhaus-indebted instructional methods and practices of Josef Albers and the sculpture of Eva Hesse, his student at Yale University. The author argues that pedagogy affects artistic practice, or that the means or process through which artists are educated contributes to how they approach their work

Development and application of optical process monitoring and controlling for production of chalcopyrite thin film layers
Industrial fabrication of chalkopyrite absorbers to comply with international quality standards recommends a reliable process control. The required process control has to detect phase changes during the process. This thesis presents an optical concept which allows investigations about the structural status of the depositing layers. Therefore two different process types (the three stage process for manufacturing of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 and the rapid thermal processing of Cu(In,Ga)S2) were monitored by optical methods. The described methods based upon the measurements of scattering and direct reflection. Therefore two different optical models were formed, which describes the optical measurements by structural formation of the layers during the process. The developing of a reliable process control for the deposition of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 by the three-stage process a huge number of break-off experiments were prepared to investigate the first two stages. Both stages were investigated separately. The first stage was investigated by a temperature variation of the precursor to understand the formation of these layers. For investigations of the second stage a series of break-off experiments with varied copper content was done to correlate the in-situ monitored optical signals by ex-situ measured structure information. By use of this correlation a senseful result was gained and presented in this thesis. The development of a process control for Cu(In,Ga)S2 was done by use of the acquired knowledge of the deposition of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 were transformed to the RTP deposition of Cu(In,Ga)S2. Also for these investigation the correlation between optical and structural was done. In difference the measuring of the structural properties was done by an in-situ method, therefore an exact correlation was possible. An experienced simulation of the structural formation and phase changes was applied to simulate the optical measurements during the process
Hermann Hesse et la musique
The present dissertation is divided in three major parts. In the first part, the author is analysing the role and the fundamental place that music occupied in his life : during his childhood, his tormented bodyhood (the relationship with his half-brother, the musician Theodor Isenberg, the impact of the pietistic environment, the salving part of the music...) and finallay, during his existence of a poet and writer (influence of the music on his private and marital life, exchanges and mutuality between him and numerous musicians...).The second part of this work is based on Hermann Hesses conception of music, his reflections about music, composers and their works, but also on his thoughts about the art of musical interpretation and the essence of all music. The last part is dedicated to the study of the music and writings of Hemann Hesse, more specifically in his novels Gertrud, Der Steppenwolf and Das GlasperlenspielCette thèse s'articule en trois grandes parties.
