Potential forest plantation species: Leucaena leucocephala / Wan Mohd Nazri Wan Abd Rahman …[et al.]
Fast growing and high yielding tree plantations are becoming an important source of wood in tropical countries. The future supply of wood will be met from these planted forests as opposed to managed natural forests. In Malaysia, Leucaena leucocephala is widely regarded as a shade tree because of its fast growth (lead tree) compared to other commercial tropical trees. The Malaysian Agricultural Research Development Institute (MARDI) has used this species for shade and wind protection for a variety of crops, especially during early growth and for animals feed. The objectives of the paper were to compare the stem yield of leucaena leucocephala with rubber wood and acacia mangium. This study revealed that stem yield of leucaena leucocephala ranged from 30.83 to 134.23 tons ha-1 for the tree age of 3 years-old to 16 years-old. Based on data comparison with Acacia and rubber wood, leucaena leucocephala was found to be a suitable
alternative for forest plantation species with a better stem yield recovery
The relationship between Geographical Information System (GIS) quality and user satisfaction, and its influence on individual work performance / Mohd Saiful Rahman ... [et al.]
The measurement of software quality has always been subjective. Many theories and models were developed to identify the contributing factors in software quality. This study focuses specifically on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) quality. The impact given by GIS enlightens decision-makers through the location element. This study focuses on the aspects of GIS quality according to the ISO-25010 software quality model. The aim of this study is to identify the level of GIS quality, user satisfaction, and individual work performance in the selected organization. It also aims to investigate the relationship between GIS quality and user satisfaction as well as examining the influence of user satisfaction on individual work performance. A total of 362 respondents have given responses to the study, where all findings were collected, reviewed, and analyzed. From the analysis, it is found that from 10 hypotheses, seven (7) are supported and three (3) are not
Think + Think + … Think = Overthinking / Ch’ng Pei Eng ... [et al.]
The term “Overthink” is defined as the action of using one’s mind to think too much about something; or putting too much time into thinking about or analyzing something (Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, 2020). Being an overthinker, a person is trying to control the future or constantly thinking about negative situations (Optimal Positivity, 2020). It is one of the most unhelpful mental habits. Overthinking is actually associated with uncertainty. A person probably feels that his future is being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally and he will try very hard to solve problems in the head; or he might be spending so much time ruminating or his mind is going over and over the same thing about something that has happened in the past. In a study conducted by Arbor (2003), she found that 73% of adult in the age group between 25 and 35-year-olds are overthinkers, while 52% of adult in the age group of 45- to 55-year-olds are overthinkers. She also found that female tends to think too much as compared to male
Teaching and learning in higher education (TLHE) / Mohd Syafiq Abdul Rahman ... [et al.]
Lecture slides are usually a summary of the lecture content. In lectures, note taking supports to concentrate on what the lecturer is saying, and they guide how your note taking and help you recognize the key topics and concepts. Take note of what seems on them, but don’t confine your notetaking to simply copying it. Taking your own notes will encourage a deeper understanding of the content of the lecture. You can also take notes from a written source which will help you in writing an essay. You can include notes showing your own thoughts about a written source or a lecture to determine how you are going to use the information in your essay.
The information is usually very limited compared to what the lecturer says, so it’s more effective to listen to the lecture and take notes from that. Most lecturers make their slides accessible before class, so print them out and take additional notes in the lecture. You’ll get most out of lectures if you do both, but don’t focus on getting everything down to the extent that you miss what the lecturer is saying. But remember that actively listening and thinking are what is important.
Regarding the encoding function, two aspects of notetaking are probably most relevant: (a) what method students use to take notes and (b) whether students try to organize their notes as they take them. With respect to note-taking methods, students can take notes by longhand in a notebook or using an electronic device (e.g., a tablet or eWriter), or they can type notes on a laptop computer or tablet. In realistic research of which method is best, taking notes longhand has generally produced as good or better performance outcomes when studied in real- life progresses and in the laboratory (Carter, Greenberg, & Walker, 2017; Luo, Kiewra
Stability augmentation system of active suspension system in electric vehicle conversion: Towards optimal ride comfort performance
International Conference on Applications and Design in Mechanical Engineering 2012 (ICADME 2012) organized by School of Mechatronic Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), 27th - 28th Februari 2012 at Bayview Beach Resort, Penang, Malaysia. This paper present a study on ride comfort performance of passenger vehicle converted into an electric vehicle. The
studies used a validated 7 degrees of freedom of vehicle’s ride model. The validated simulation model was integrated with the
active suspension system controlled by the stability augmentation system (SAS) algorithm which its tuning method is described.
Systematic tuning procedures are proposed to tune the parameters value in the SAS algorithm. The genetic algorithm optimization
method was also used in searching the values for the parameters in the algorithm. The performance of the manually tuned SAS
active suspension system is also compared with the SAS system tuned by the genetic algorithm. It was found that the EV
conversion’s ride comfort with the SAS active suspension system was significantly improved when compared to the EV
conversion with the passive suspension system. It was also found that the SAS-controlled active suspension system, tuned
manually, is having a similar ride comfort performance to system which was tuned by the genetic algorithm
Non-pressurized magnetorheological damper controlled using fuzzy semi active damping force estimator (fSADE)
International Conference on Applications and Design in Mechanical Engineering 2012 (ICADME 2012) organized by School of Mechatronic Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), 27th - 28th Februari 2012 at Bayview Beach Resort, Penang, Malaysia. This paper presents the comparison of vehicle’s ride performance between passive suspension system and nonpressurized
magnetorheological damper semi active suspension system controlled by the skyhook algorithm and intelligent
damping force estimators using fuzzy logic. The modelling of 7-degrees of freedom (7DOF) of vehicle’s ride model is described.
The simulation work of semi active suspension system involves actual dynamic behaviours of a custom-made, non-pressurized
magnetorheological damper. Two intelligent controllers were used to estimate the required damping force for vibration isolations,
which are fuzzy logic and fuzzy semi active damping force estimator (fSADE). The fuzzy logic algorithm is used to estimate a
suitable damping coefficient for the studied semi active suspension system. In fSADE, the damping coeffients are estimated by
the fuzzy logic algorithm combined with the semi active damping force estimator (SADE) algorithm, for further improvement of
ride comfort. The ride quality is evaluated based on vertical motions (jerk, acceleration and displacement), roll motions (roll rate
and roll angle) and pitch motions (pitch rate and pitch angle). The performance of the fSADE algorithm is compared with the
skyhook-controlled, fuzzy-controlled systems as well as the passive suspension systems. It is found that the overall ride comfort
performance of the proposed controller is better than the fuzzy and passive suspension systems
