The Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 7th March 1971: A Historical Analysis
The 20th century witnessed a lot of nationalist movements which gave the birth of many independent states. All these nationalist movements were led by some charismatic leaders who could convince, organize and motivate people by their character, speech, and wonderful leadership. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mojibur Rahman was one of them. He was such a leader who opened the eyes of the East Pakistani people about their right, and led them towards independence. He could ignite the light of the nationalist spirit among the people by his public speaking capacity and heart-rending speech. His historic speech of 7th March 1971 is often considered as one of the most influential speeches over the world. UNESCO recognized the 7th March speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the world’s documentary heritage in 2017. This study sheds light on the historical importance of that speech. An extensive historical background of this speech will also be demonstrated based on the documents of the liberation war of Bangladesh and other reliable sources. This study shows that the 7th March speech of Bangabandhu paved the way for independent Bangladesh in 1971

Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman (1920-75): His Political Thoughts and Ideals
This paper is a reproduction of the inaugural lecture by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Professorial Fellow Dr. Harun-or-Rashid, delivered at the South Asia Institute (SAI), Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies, University of Heidelberg, on January 20, 2022. The lecture marked the revival of aforementioned annual fellowship in the presence of Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Germany, Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan. After a survey of Bangabandhu’s life and political career, Professor Rashid discusses his ideas about ‘Bengaliness’, economics, statehood, and Democracy. Assessing the Overall Efficiency of two technologies of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Bangladesh
A study was conducted to investigate the farmers’ response on the performance of two specific Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) technologies viz. BU dhan1 and BU Hybrid lau1. In this connection, two districts of Northern Bangladesh were considered with 80 farmer respondents selected by simple random sampling technique to examine their responses on technology performance, adoption, impacts, associated limitations with possible suggestions and knowledge gap. Findings from this study reveal that the BU dhan1 had a high adoption level. In contrast,BU Hybrid lau1 had a low level of adoption. BU dhan1 performed well with low complexities when it was cultivated in the field. The study further provides information that majority farmers showed low to moderate knowledge gap in cultivating both of these technologies. Moreover, dried empty grains and less market value were listed as major constraints faced by BU dhan1 growers, while BU Hybrid lau1 growers suffered from severe virus attack during cultivation. Morpho-physiological response of Acacia auriculiformis as influenced by seawater induced salinity stress
Aim of the study: To evaluate the morpho-physiological changes of Acacia auriculiformis in response to seawater induced salinity stress along with its tolerance limit.
Area of study: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Bangladesh.
Material and methods: Three saline treatments (4, 8, 12 dS m-1) were applied to six-month aged Acacia auriculiformis seedlings from January 2014 to June 2014 and the tap water was used as control treatment. To observe salinity effects, the following parameters were measured by using various established techniques: plant height and leaf number, plant biomass, shoot and root distribution as well as shoot and root density, water uptake capacity (WUC), water saturation deficit (WSD) and water retention capacity (WRC), exudation rate, and cell membrane stability.
Main results: Diluted seawater caused a notable reduction in shoot and root distribution in addition to shoot and root density, though plant height, leaf number and plant biomass were found to be decreased to some extent compared to control plants. Water status of the plant also altered when plants were subjected to salinity stress. Nevertheless, membrane stability revealed good findings towards salinity tolerance.
Research highlights: Considering the above facts, despite salinity exerts some negative effects on overall plant performance, interestingly the percent reduction value doesn’t exceed 50% as compared to control plants, and the plants were successful to tolerate salinity stress till the end of the experiment (150 days) through adopting some tolerance mechanisms.

Democracy excelarates economic development of a country. This article explores the nexus between Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming, and Bangladesh’s democracy and development using historical method, and development indicators. Sheikh Hasina returned home on 17 May 1981 defying all obstracles of the then government after five-year-and-nine-month of exile following 15 August assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members. This study shows that Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming is of utmost important in the history of democracy and development of Bangladesh. Because, her return and subsequent democratic movements had forced the military dictator to hand over power to the caretaker government for holding the parliamentary election. Later, securing fourth term as the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina has made the country a role model of development in the world. Bangladesh has now a glorified story of growth and development aspiring to be an upper-middle income country by 2031 because of her visionary leadership, and strictness to fulfil the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This study suggests rooting out corruption, reducing rate of unemployment, combating price hike of essentials, and strengthening soundness of democracy to make the country ‘Sonar Bangla’ by 2041
Fractional-Order Total Variation Based Image Denoising, Deconvolution, and CT Reconstruction Under Poisson Statistics
Image processing and analysis have gained increasing popularity nowadays for its applications in medical imaging, astronomy, astrophysics, surveillance, image compression, and
transmission. In this dissertation, we work on three types of image restoration: image
denoising, deconvolution, and computer tomography (CT) reconstruction. In many photonlimited imaging systems, acquired data is usually corrupted by Poisson noise and blurring
artifacts. Different from Gaussian noise that is commonly used in the scientific community,
Poisson noise depends on the image intensity, which makes image restoration very challenging. Moreover, the underlying images often contain complex geometries, and hence it is
desirable to impose a regularization to preserve piecewise smoothness. For this purpose, we
propose to use the fractional-order total variation (FOTV) regularization. Specifically, for
image denoising, we can establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution to our proposed
model. To solve the problem efficiently, we adopt three numerical algorithms based on the
Chambolle-Pock primal-dual method, a forward-backward splitting scheme, and the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), each with guaranteed convergence. Various
experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed methods
over the state-of-the-art in Poisson denoising.
Blurring is always inevitable, as the data recorded by a digital device is an average over
neighboring pixels, leading to a blurred image. The blurring process can be modeled as a
convolution of an underlying image with a point spread function (PSF). We consider both
non-blind and blind image deblurring models, in which blind refers to the case of an unknown PSF. In the pursuit of the high-order smoothness of a restored image, we use the
FOTV regularization to remove the blur and Poisson noise simultaneously. We develop an
ADMM-based algorithm for non-blind deblurring and an expectation-maximization (EM)
algorithm in the blind case. A variety of numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithms can efficiently reconstruct piecewise-smooth images degraded by Poisson
noise and various types of blurring, including Gaussian and motion blurs. Specifically for
blind image deblurring, we obtain significant improvements over the state-of-the-art.
Lastly, we consider a CT reconstruction problem, where the noise is traditionally modeled
by Gaussian distribution. We propose using the FOTV regularization and a data fidelity
term for Poisson noise to reconstruct the CT image. We show in experiments that the
Gaussian noise is indeed suitable when the highest intensity value (or called peak value) is
large. But the Poisson distribution is a more appropriate distribution for relatively lower
peak values. Furthermore, we demonstrate that FOTV-based regularization outperforms the
classic methods in the CT reconstruction, especially when the data has a small peak value,
or the signal-to-noise ratio is low.National Science Foundation (NSF) awards of
