Analysis of privacy protections in fitness tracking applications

    No full text
Mobile fitness tracking apps allow users to track their workouts and share them with friends through online social networks. Although the sharing of personal data is an inherent risk in all social networks, the dangers presented by sharing personal workouts comprised of geospatial and health data may prove especially grave. While fitness apps offer a variety of privacy features, at present it is unclear if these countermeasures are sufficient to thwart a determined attacker, nor is it clear how many of their users are at risk. In this work, we perform a systematic analysis of privacy behaviors and threats in fitness tracking social networks. Collecting a month-long snapshot of public posts to the popular Strava fitness tracking service (21 million posts, 3 million users), we observe that 16.5% of users make use of Endpoint Privacy Zones (EPZs), which conceal fitness activity nearby user-designated sensitive locations (e.g., home, office). We go on to develop an attack against EPZs that infers users’ protected locations from the remaining available information in public posts, discovering that 95.1% of moderately active users are at risk of having their protected locations extracted by an attacker. Finally, we consider the efficacy of state-of-the-art privacy mechanisms through adapting geo-indistinguishability techniques as well as developing a novel EPZ fuzzing technique. Strava has been notified of the discovered vulnerabilities and (at time of submission) is preparing to incorporate our countermeasures into their production system.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2020-05-01The student, Muhammad Hussain, accepted the attached license on 2018-04-25 at 21:03.The student, Muhammad Hussain, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2018-04-25 at 21:10.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2018-04-26 at 14:30.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #12510 on 2018-08-31 at 17:21:36Made available in DSpace on 2018-09-04T20:41:58Z (GMT). CHARLES UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES Institute of Political Studies Department of Political Science Dissertation Abstract The Islamist Movement Interactions within the Arab Uprisings The Impact of the Islamist Movements' Interactions on the Democratization Process and the Level of Radicalization Author: Mohamed Saad Supervisor: Janusz Salamon, Ph.D. Year of the defense: 2023 Abstract The Islamist movements played a socio-political role in many Arab and Middle Eastern countries. They provided social services and a resistance ideology, either for the West or local political regimes. They mobilized their supporters in a large social movement that crystallized the Islamic Ummah's relative deprivation and common grievances. In some cases, Islamism was used as a justification ideology to legitimize the ruling regime. Also, it has been used as an ideology to justify the use of radical and jihadist violence. The Islamism involvement in the Arab Spring raised the classic dilemma in a new shape, either to integrate the Islamists in an open political process; however, this integration may undermine democracy and individual rights in the long term, or to exclude the Islamists from the political life in a way that may encourage more Islamists to resort to violence to achieve their goals. In this present paper, we introduce the idea and concept of n-polynomial s-type preinvex functions. We elaborate and investigate the algebraic properties of the newly introduced definition and discuss their connections and relations with convex functions. We find the new sort of Hermite-Hadamard inequality via a newly introduced definition. Furthermore, some refinements of Hermite-Hadamard inequality are given. Finally, we investigated some applications via this newly introduced definition. The results obtained in this paper can be viewed as significant improvement of previously known results.H.E.C. The absence of the concept of blessing in the field of education in our modern-day and the wrong perception of it has led to many problems faced by our education system at various stages, and it is also a key factor in the lack of stability and growth in the production of knowledge and lagging behind by looking back at our nobles scientists in spite of progress and technology that God bestow on mankind of our time. Moreover, the absence of Islamic texts and the traditions of prophet S.W.T as well as the teaching methodology and curriculum of our righteous predecessors in our education system have contributed significantly to the declination of science among the Muslim community in the contemporary world. This study aims to explain the Islamic point of view on the concept of the blessing, and the educational goals that the Islamic concept of blessing brings about into our education system. the researcher have collected, reviewed and analyzed many Islamic texts and extracted the concepts and the educational goals from those texts and sensitized them into nine concepts or categories as follows: Knowledge is associated with faith, understanding and prudence, sincere intention in seeking knowledge, avoiding argumentation, stick with the (group) and stay away from division, follow the ways of nobles scientists, giving credit to the original writer, give pride to knowledge, respect the time and take opportunity of the time and organize your time, habituate yourself to getting up early. The Researcher found out that the educational objectives related to these concepts can improve the level of understanding and awareness among students and raise the level of production and proof of the divine goodness in it (the blessing)

The study discusses the forms of personal character structure in the novel "Umm Saad" by Ghassan Kanafani, due to the behavior of colors and the specifications of their internal elements. The approach in it is a descriptive and analytical approach, namely describing the novel and analyzing it with the inclusion of Sigmund Freud's literary psychology. The results obtained by the author are id quotes one, ego quotes four, and superego quotes one and that is the actual psychological reality, because the id is the inner world or human subjectivity, and there is no direct contact with the objective world. And the inner aspect contains things that are born from birth. Ego is the aspect of personality that is responsible for dealing with reality. As for id, it is a single quote because it is the inner world or human subjectivity, and has no direct relationship with the purpose of the world. The inner aspect contains biological elements of instinct and is also a "warehouse" of psychic energy that drives the ego and superego. And the ego is an empathetic quote to see that Umm Saad's ego position can overcome the nature of her identity. Superego quote one is actually very worried and wants to bring the kids home but he realizes that the kids are fighting for their countr
