Designing and building a peanut-shelling machine to help people in third world countries such as Ghana/Haiti
Thesis (S.B.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, February 2004.Includes bibliographical references (p. 19).A peanut shelling machine was designed and built to help improve the standard of living of people in third world countries such as Ghana and Haiti. Two prototypes were built to test the concept of using a wheel as a peanut sheller. Peanuts would go through a gap between a spinning wheel and a hard friction channel and come out on the other side fully shelled. The peanut sheller was powered using a crank. Second prototype was built after the concept of the spinning wheel worked after: testing the first prototype. Peanuts were shelled without breaking the kernels however a separator mechanism still needs to be built to separate the kernels from the shells.by Rafiq H. Mohd Ramli.S.B

Agro-based industry of Tharparkar and barrage area of Sindh: Solutions and suggested policy
In this study solutions and suggested policy of agro-based industry of Tharparkar and barrage area of Sindh are given, and it is tenth chapter of the Ph.D submitted in 2002. Purpose of the study was to give the complete picture of solutions and recommendations. On the completion of this study and in the light of conclusions drawn it has been observed that to further develop agro-based industries in Thar and Barrage areas, it is necessary for the Government of Sindh to take steps for local organization and indigenous knowledge and leadership. The awareness of rangeland and livestock by the local organizations will help in the enhancement of all other agro-based industries. The development of agro-based industries in Thar will boost Sindh’s industrial economy. In order to alleviate poverty, it is also necessary that people be trained in the ways and means to develop their physical assets (land and livestock). In this way poverty will fall about 55 percent. For the development of Thar’s agro-based industries two formulas are suggested as bellow: A. Alleviation of poverty = Local Organizations + Livestock; B. Development of Thar = Local Organizations + Livestock + Roads + Electricity. For the achievement of purpose Proposed Immediate Measures, Medium and Long Term Measures should be taken.Solutions and Suggested Policy; Tharparkar; Barrage Area of Sindh; Agro-Based Industry; livestock

A study of maintenance and safety provided in public aquatic pool centre / Mohammad Rafiq Mohd Yusop
Generally, the objective of this study which is the maintenance schedule, water quality at Aquatic Park and identify the accurate of aquatic park complex safety for people by age of user that can be achieve in this case study. Some structural studies carried out to ensure the success that been achieved. Secondly, the study also covers the maintenance of schedule which it is the common defect and the maintenance that should do when a defect happen. This study also will achieve the study. Furthermore, the water quality will defined as the use of the chlorine and the pH that the worker or maintenance will do at the aquatic park complex. The optimum chlorine and pH will determine by their own equipment. Then, the effect that will cause when exceed of chlorine and pH level. Thirdly, the study also will describe the safety layout of the aquatic pool and the safety that had been provide at aquatic park complex which people who want to join to swim will follow the regulation. Next, the data are collected from a survey that will be collect from a survey that will be include in the study to be easy to proceed on the next level. Next is data that have been entered into in accordance with the objective to be achieved. The last is the conclusion and recommendation that involve a way to move all the maintenance, water quality and design layout and safety aspect at the aquatic pool
Electronic mailbox / Mohd Rafiq Muhmad Diah and Mohd Anis Adzizee Madzlee
The electronic mailbox is designed to help people nowadays whom always have problems receiving new letters. So, this project may help them to overcome this problem by indicating when new letters arrived and have been inserted into the mailbox. Other than that, this project is created for those who could not check their mailbox which is located outside of their houses because of the climate changes such as raining or heavy snowing. So, with the existing of the electronic mailbox, it will overcome the problem by giving them a signal from inside the houses. Our project is based on demand of the people who are busy with their works and daily activities which make them tend to forget checking their mailbox. As a result, their payment of utilities bills is being delayed. We have made many researches on electronic components that are very suitable and useful for the project. The electronic mailbox is easy to use and user friendly. This is because it only needs voltage supply to turn it on and it will automatically indicate when new letters are inserted into the mailbox
Processing and characterisation of aramid/carbon hybrid fibre reinforced polypropylene composites / Muhammad Rafiq bin Mohd Isa
Hybrid composites of aramid fibre/carbon fibre/polypropylene (PP) with three total fibre volume fraction (Vf) and five fibre proportions (100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100 V:V %) were prepared by extrusion and injection moulding. The moulded composite specimens were characterised for thermal, dynamic mechanical and mechanical properties. The results from the analysis were supported by scanning electron microscope images. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed that the hybridisation of fibres produces hybrid composites with better thermal properties compared to the single fibre composites. Differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) study showed that the incorporation of the fibres did not significantly alter the melting behaviour of the composites. The crystallinity of the matrix was found to be greatly affected by the total Vf. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed an increase in the storage modulus (E’) indicating higher stiffness in the hybrid composites as compared to the aramid fibre composites. Carbon fibre content showed a strong influence on the magnitude of E’. The tensile properties of some hybrid composites exceed the properties of the single fibre composites. However, based on the SEM image of the fractured surface, it was found that the interfacial interaction between the matrix and fibres is weak. On the other hand, hybridisation reduced the flexural properties of the composites compared to its single fibre counterpart. Flexural properties were found to be more sensitive to total Vf, where composites with higher total Vf would have better flexural modulus. For all composites tested, the peak load (P) and critical stress intensity factor (Kc) increased with increasing carbon fibre contents. By contrast, the fracture energy (W) and critical strain energy release rate (Gc) were decreased with increasing carbon fibre content in hybrid composites. The hybrid composite showed superior impact properties when compared to its non-hybrid counterpart. In a nutshell, hybridisation of the fibres improved the impact properties of the composites
