Mutation Breeding in Chickpea: Perspectives and Prospects for Food Security

Imran Kozgar aims to cover the problems of mutation breeding in pulse crops in the light of issues related to food insecurity and malnutrition, which according to FAO are the major threats at the present time. So far the research on induction of mutation in pulse crops is negligible compared to cereal crops, though the pulse crops and especially the chickpea are the largest grown crops in India. The main objective of the book is to reveal and explore the possibility of inducing genetic variability in early generations of mutated chickpea, describe the positive aspects of mutagenic treatments, evaluate the content of mineral elements (iron, manganese, zinc and copper) and physiological parameters of isolated high yielding mutant lines. The author hopes that his book will help to advance studies on pulse crops, and that in the long term it will help to reduce the food insecurity and malnutrition problems presently persisting in various developing countries, including India
SHM in integrity management of deterioration prone concrete structures
No full textPotential benefits of improving performance prediction using structural health monitoring (SHM), and their implications on integrity management of deterioration prone structures, is discussed in this paper. Key challenges in the use of SHM in performance prediction are highlighted. A methodology is presented, using Bayesian Event Updating, to rationally reduce epistemic uncertainty in predictive models by virtue of SHM data. An example of a reinforced concrete member under chloride attack is used to demonstrate the methodology. The updated structural performance is compared with the results from predictive model alone. The confidence in predicted performance is considerably improved, hence the management activities such as inspections, repair and maintenance etc can be delayed keeping consistent target reliability levels

Deltocephalus fuscovarius Distant. Syn. nov. Material examined. Pakistan: 213, 4 Ƥ, Sindh Prov., Tando Jam, 7.xi.07. India: several specimens from throughout India and Sri Lanka, including the syntypeƤ of Xestocephalus dissimilis and 2 Ƥ syntypes of Deltocephalus fuscovarius (BMNH). Remarks. Nilai nilai pendidikan akhlak di kalangan masyarakat mengalami kemerosotan, baik di kalangan pelajar, maupun masyarakat umum. Fenomena tersebut menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan yang berlangsung hingga saat ini belum mampu memberikan kontribusi pada manusia untuk meningkatkan derajatnya sebgaimana yang dicontohkan oleh Nabi Muhammad SAW. Hal ini terjadi karena kurangnya kesadaran masyarakat terutama umat Islam untuk mempelajari Al-Qur’an dan Hadits sebagai pedoman hidup. Berangkat dari sinilah penulis tertarik untuk mengkaji lebih dalam mengenai nilai-nilai pendidikan akhlak yang terkandung dalam Al-Qur’an terkhusus dalam Surah Ali Imran : 159-160. Kemudian agar pembahasan lebih mudah untuk dipahami, penulis mengambil perspektif Tafsir al Misbah karya M. Quraish Shihab. Fokus penelitian ini adalah apa saja nilai-nilai pendidikan akhlak dalam surah Ali Imran : 159-160 perspektif Tafsir al Misbah? Dan bagaiman relevansi nilai-nilai pendidikan akhlak yang terkandung dalam surah Ali Imran : 159-160 perspektif Tafsir al Misbah dengan masyarakat modern?
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Sumber data primernya adalah kitab Tafsir al Misbah yang membahas tafsir Qur’an Surah Ali Imran 159-160. Sedangkan data sekundernya berupa buku, jurnal, artikel, maupun karya-karya tulis ilmiah lainnya yang berhubungan dengan pokok penelitian ini. Untuk menganalisis data yang terkumpul, diklarifikasikan sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan analisis dengan cara yang tepat. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan content analysis yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan dan cara yang tepat.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai pendidikan akhlak yang terkandung dalam surah Ali Imran : 159-160 perspektif Tafsir al Misbah adalah akhlak kepada masyarakat yang berupa lemah lembut, pemaaf, dan musyarawah. Kemudian juga terdapat nilai akhlak kepada Allah yang berupa tawakal. Nilai-nilai pendidikan akhlak yang terkandung dalam Surah Ali Imran :159-160 perspektif tafsir al Misbah masih sangat relevan dengan kehidupan masyarakat sekarang sebagai acuan berperilaku untuk menyikapi hal-hal kekinian yang didalamnya juga terdapat nilai-nilai diluar syariat dan kewajaran yang menimbulkan kemerosotan akhlak dalam masyarakat.

The values moral education in the community has decreased, both among students and in the general public community. This phenomenon shows that education has taken place until now has not been able to contribute to humans to increase their degree as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad. This happens because of the lack of public awareness, especially Muslims, to study the Al-Qur'an and Hadith as a guide for life. Starting from this, the author is interested in examining more deeply the values of moral education contained in the Qur'an, especially in Surah Al Imran: 159-160. Then, for make the discussion easier to understand, the wraiter takes the perspective Tafsir al Misbah creation M. Quraish Shihab. The research focus of this research is what are the values of moral education in Surah Ali Imran: 159-160 from the perspective of Tafsir al Misbah? And how is the relevance of the values of moral education contained in Surah Ali Imran: 159-160 from the perspective of Tafsir al Misbah with modern society?
The research is library research. The primary data source is the book Tafsir al Misbah which discusses interpretation the Qur'an Surah Ali Imran 159-160. Meanwhile, secondary data are books, journals, articles, and other scientific papers related to the subject of this research. To analyze the collected data, it is clarified according to needs and analyzed in an appropriate manner. In analyzing the data, the technique used is content analysis.
The results this research indicate that the values moral education contained in the Surah Ali Imron: 159-160 Tafsir al Misbah perspective include: morals to the community in the form of gentle, forgiving, and Duscusion. Then there is also a moral value to Allah in the form of tawakal. Educational values the morals contained in Surah Ali Imran :159-160 perspective of al-Misbah interpretation is still very relevant to people's lives today as a reference for behavior to address things in the present, in which there are also values outside the Shari'a and fairness that cause a decline in morals in society.

Ductility behavior of deteriorating reinforced concrete members
No full textRebar corrosion is the most commonly observed deterioration cause in reinforced (RC) bridges, due to the extensive use of salts in de-icing operations during winter. Corrosion is known to have adverse effects on the mechanical properties of the affected rebars (i.e. impaired strength and ductility). A significant loss in the mechanical properties of corroding rebars of structural elements, such as under-reinforced beams is likely to affect their ductility. However, the observed scatter in the available experimental data of corrodingunder-reinforced beams do not allow for consistent conclusions to be made. In this paper, the ductility of corroding under-reinforced beams – in flexure – is examined using non-linear finite element analysis (NLFEA).Numerical models of corroding RC beams are developed and validated, using empirical models from the literature, to consider the effect of corrosion on the residual properties of the corroding rebars and their bond with concrete. The results are discussed in relation to key experimental and numerical studies. Thereafter, a detailed parametric study is presented, which quantifies the evolution of ductility in the corroding beams and assist in explaining the scatter found in the experimental data

Predictive deterioration modelling and health monitoring systems both have limitations on their use and abilities in regard to prognosis. A powerful decision support tool may be developed by combining information obtained through structural health monitoring with probabilistic performance prediction models. A performance updating methodology is presented in this paper focusing on the concrete structures prone to chloride induced deterioration. It is concluded that a methodology combining information from the two sources would benefit the management of deterioration prone structures. Confidence regarding predicted performance of the structure can be significantly improved through the performance updating methodology presented in this paper

Structural Health Monitoring for maintenance management of deteriorating structures: Current practice and state of the art

It is impractical to replace, or even repair, all deteriorating structures due to the substantial scale and distribution of such infrastructure, and its associated costs. Maintenance management systems developed and deployed to address this have varied success in different countries. This paper outlines the key features of maintenance management systems, reflect on the current best practice in different countries and highlight the state of the art in this area. It is demonstrated through case studies that integrating structural health monitoring in the maintenance management systems is promising in rationalizing decisions required by the asset owners constrained by the scarce resources
