Rabinowitz Floer homology and coisotropic intersections
학위논문 (박사)-- 서울대학교 대학원 : 수리과학부, 2014. 2. Urs Frauenfelder.
Rabinowitz Floer homology theory was developed by Kai Cieliebak and Urs Frauenfelder using a Lagrange multiplier action functional, which was introduced by Paul Rabinowitz in order to detect periodic orbits of autonomous Hamiltonian systems.
In this thesis, we study a generalized Rabinowitz action functional with several Lagrange multipliers, which is well suited for exploring dynamics on coisotropic submanifolds of arbitrary codimensions. Using this, we investigate among others, the existence problem of leafwise coisotropic intersection points, displaceability of coisotropic submanifolds, and Rabinowitz Floer homology for coisotropic submanifolds. We also derive a Künneth formula for the Rabinowitz Floer homology of product coisotropic submanifolds, and this enables us to find a class of coisotropic submanifolds which have infinitely many leafwise coisotropic intersection points. This study will serve as a crucial tool for exploring autonomous dynamical systems with several integrals.Abstract i

Dialogical Relationships between ""the Authorial Reader"" and ""the Narrative Reader"" in Reading of Fiction (I) : Considering Rabinowitz & Smith's Authorizing Readers as a Pedagogical Theory for Teaching of Fictions
In this Paper, Peter Rabinowitz and Michael Smith's Authorizing Readers (1997) was considered as a fundamental work for teaching of fictional texts. Rabinowitz and Smith emphasized the dialogical relationships between ""the authorial reader"" and ""the narrative reader"" in reading acts of a practical reader. Rabinowitz argued that if readers failed to playing either ""the authorial reader"" or ""the narrative reader"", they would take any misreadings such that what he called ""Quixotic"" or ""Emma-Bovary"" or ""Blimberism."" On the other hand, Smith argued if readers wouldn't play as ""the narrative reader"" but as ""the authorial reader,"" they couldn't get the point of the story, and couldn't respect not only characters and narrator, but also the author of the story. Rabinowitz also emphasized the rhetoric of fragile texts, and suggested that we teachers of fictions must resist what he called ""the Doctorine of the Macho Text,"" and consider the fragilities of fictional texts for comprehending any other reader's comprehention. In conclusion, some suggestions for reconstructioning teaching and learning of fictions were suggested as follows; 1) For respect to the author, we must recognize the effectiveness of ""the authorial reader"" concept in reading act. ; 2) For respect to the narrators and the fictional characters, we must develop literary reading process founded by the triadic relations with practical reader, ""the authorial reader"" and ""the narrative reader""; 3) For respect any other peer-readers, we should develop teaching practices holding perspectives to fragilities of fictional texts

Existence of weak solutions to superlinear elliptic systems without the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition
In this article, we study the existence of the weak solution for superlinear elliptic equations and systems without the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. The Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition guarantees the boundedness of the PS sequence of the functional I for the corresponding problem. We establish the existence of the weak solution for the superlinear elliptic equation by using (PS)c form of the Mountain pass lemma, and the existence of the weak solution for the superlinear elliptic system by using (PS)*c form of the Linking theorem.Mathematic
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Caroline Rabinowitz and Eric Wolf Rabinowitz letter to the editor of the Seattle P-I regarding the Goodwill Games, June 18, 1986
The 1990 Goodwill Games was the second edition of the international multi-sport event created by Ted Turner, which was held between July 20 and August 5, 1990. Following an inaugural edition in Moscow, the second games took place in Seattle, United States, highlighting the competition's role in fostering good Soviet–U.S. relations. The games were opened at the University of Washington's Husky Stadium with a speech by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, as well as an address by Arnold Schwarzenegger and performances by the Moody Blues and Gorky Park.
The games' motto was "Uniting the World's Best", and a total of 2,312 athletes from 54 countries engaged in the 17-day program of 21 sports. The size of the sporting program meant that some events were held in other Washington cities, including Tacoma, Spokane, and the Tri-Cities area. A number of venues in the region were built or renovated for the Games: Federal Way gained an aquatics venue (King County Aquatic Center) through the games, while Seattle itself gained a new track for Husky Stadium and new flooring for the Edmundson Pavilion. The Seattle Space Needle had a large purpose-built gold medal hung around the structure during the Games
