Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Geodeesia, kinnisvara- ja maakorralduse õppekavalMaareform on sisuliselt jõudnud lõpusirgele. Kahjuks ei tähenda see seda et piirid loodu-ses oleksid kõigile asjaosalistele selged ja arusaadavad. Igapäevaselt puutuvad maamõõt-jad oma töös kokku erinevate piiriküsimustega ning nende lahendamise keerukus on muutnud maamõõtja töö kalliks ja paljudele soovijatele kättesaamatuks. Katastriandmete halva kvaliteedi üheks levinumaks põhjuseks peetakse maareformi algusaastatel kasutusel olnud ebatäpseid mõõdistusviise. Katastrimõõdistamise kvaliteet määrab katastriandmete täpsuse ja usaldusväärsuse. Bakalaureusetöö eesmärk on iseloomustada Rõuge valla uurimispiirkonnas katastrimõõdistamise kvaliteeti, võrreldes varasemate mõõdis-tusandmete põhjal katastrikaardile tehtud andmeid looduses olevate piirimärkide asukoha andmetega. Ühtlasi uuritakse tuvastatud erinevuste ja vastuolude tähtsust maa omanikele.
Võrdluseks kasutati olemasolevaid andmeid Maa- ja Ruumiameti katastrikaardilt, arhiivist ning maaregistrist. Looduses olevad piirimärgid koordineeriti välitöödel, mis viidi läbi suvepraktika raames ajavahemikus juuni kuni september 2024. Täiendava meetodina koguti kvalitatiivseks analüüsiks intervjuu abil kolme uurimispiirkonna maa-omaniku arvamused nende piiride täpsuse ja piirimärkide teemadel.
Uurimistöö tulemused näitasid, et varasemate aerofotogeodeetiliste mõõtmistulemustega määratud piirimärkide asukohad erinesid uute GNSS-mõõtmiste tulemustest märkimis-väärselt. Aerofotogeodeetilise meetodi abil fikseeritud punktide keskmine asukoha erine-vus uutest mõõtmisandmetest oli keskmiselt 7,3 m ja L-EST97 süsteemis saadi erine-vuseks keskmiselt 0,6 m. Need tulemused viitavad, et vanemate mõõdistusmeetoditega saadud piiriandmed on ebatäpsemad. Piirimärgi tüübi järgi analüüsides tekkisid suurimad andmete erinevused piirikividele tehtud mõõdistustele, keskmiselt 9,9 meetrit. Betoonpos-tidele tehtud mõõdistused erinesid keskmiselt 3 meetrit ning metalltorudele tehtud mõõdistused erinesid keskmiselt 0,6 meetrit. Siin tuleks aga arvestada, et metalltorud on enamasti mõõdistatud instrumentaalset mõõdistusmeetodit kasutades. Intervjuudest sel-gus, et maaomanikud tunnevad oma maatükkide piire, kuid ebatäpsed piiriandmed tekitavad probleeme näiteks raietööde läbiviimisel. Uurimistöö annab aluse maakatastri andmete korrastamiseks ja suuniseid edasisteks uuringuteks, näiteks mõõdistuste laienda-tud ulatus ja täiendavad kvaliteedikontrollid.sLand reform in Estonia is nearly complete. Unfortunately, this does not mean that the boundaries in nature are clear and understandable to everyone involved. On a daily basis, land surveyors are exposed to different border issues, and the complexity of solving them has made the land surveyor´s work expensive and inaccessible to many people.One of the most common reasons for the poor quality of cadastral data is considered inccurate mea-surement methods used in the early years of land reform. The quality of cadastral survey determines the accuracy and reliability of the caastria. The purpose of the Bachelor's thesis is to characterize the quality of cadastral survey in the research area of Rõuge rural mu-nicipality, compared to the data of the location of the natural border marks on the cadastral map based on previous surveys. The importance of the identified differences and contra-dictions to the owners of the earth is also investigated. For comparison, existing data were used from the cadastral card, the archives and the land register. The wildlife border signs were coordinated in fieldwork, which was conducted as part of the summer practice bet-ween June and September 2024. As an additional method, for qualitative analysis, the views of three research areas land-owners were collected on the accuracy and border marks of these boundaries. The results of the research showed that the locations of the border marks determined by earlier aerial photographic measurements differed from the results of new GNSS measurements. The average location difference between the points fixed by the aerial photoogoodetic These results indicate that the border data obtained by the parents' measurement methods are inaccurate. Analyzing the type of border mark, the largest differences in data were created for the measurements made to border stones, an average of 9.9 meters. The measurements made for concrete posts differed on average 3 meters and the measurements made for metal pipes differed on average 0.6 meters. Here, however, it should be said that metal pipes are mostly measured using an instrumental measurement method. Interviews showed that landowners are feeling the boundaries of their plots, but inaccurate border data cause problems, for example, when cutting their logging. The research provides the basis for the organization of land cadastre data and guidelines for further research, such as the extended extent of the surveys and additional quality controls
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
