Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Planning for Active Behavior. How the planned envi-ronment contributes to stimulating active behavior for the lower-SES population.
This thesis explores the lifestyle and mentality of the lower-SES population with respect to their active behavior. On average, people with a lower-SES population have 6-year lower life expectancy and live 15 years less in good health (Pharos, 2019). Stimulating active behavior in their direct living environment would contribute to improving their health. Therefore, the main research question is: “How can planning for active behavior in the living environment contribute to a more active lifestyle among the Dutch lower-SES population?”
Through observations in the neighborhoods Holtenbroek and Oosterflank, interviews with the lower-SES population, and a focus group among experts on the topic of active mobility, four different mentalities were formulated. The mentalities are distinguished on the level of motivation and ability to be active. This research demonstrates how ‘soft interventions’ in the living environment could contribute to stimulating the desired behavior amongst those mentalities with the least motivation for active behavior. It argues for social initiatives in the living environment, established through citizen participation. This can seduce the lower-SES population to come together or go for a walk more often, from the desire to be part of the neighborhood and join the social initiatives. In turn these soft interventions could result in subconscious lifestyle changes toward more active behavior amongst the lower-SES population.

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Hittestress is ongelijk verdeeld over verschillende sociaal-economische bevolkingsgroepen in Nederland.
The usability gaps of climate adaptation services for open field cultivators
The Dutch government wants to climate-proof the country by 2050. To achieve this, adaptation practises are necessary. However, adaptative measurements carry a spatial component and so be it that agricultural fields account for more than 50% of all the land use in the Netherlands. So Dutch open field cultivators have to play an important role in climate-proofing the country. Climate adaptation services can offer a helping hand in the decision-making process for climate adaptative practices. This study has identified usability gaps of climate adaptation services that are experienced by open field cultivators. Usability gaps are shortcomings within climate services which hamper the effective use of it. By knowing the usability gaps, recommendations can be made to improve the design of these services. In addition, by analysing the climate adaptation services, it is possible to see if the purpose of those services, align with the goals set for sustainable farming by the Dutch government. This study shows that open field cultivators experience usability gaps which are caused by certain design choices. Also, the reason why open field cultivators use climate adaptation services is not aligned with the goals set by the government
Texel unrushed, A stakeholder-oriented research on slow tourism policy strategies as part of sustainable tourism development on the Dutch Wadden island Texel
In response to growing tourism pressures, the municipality of Texel adopted more sustainable tourism policies. One of the island’s strategic pillars aims to attract ‘conscious’ or ‘valuable’ visitors who align with and respect the island’s core values. However, translating this desired visitor profile into practice remains a significant challenge. In this context, slow tourism offers a promising framework. It encourages visitors to decelerate, engage more meaningfully with local communities, cultures, and environments, reduce their environmental footprint, and contribute to both community and personal well-being. This thesis therefore explores stakeholder-driven and place-based policy strategies to facilitate slow tourism as a form of sustainable tourism development on Texel. A qualitative methodology is employed, including an analysis of policy documents, street interviews with visitors, and a focus group involving various tourism stakeholders. The findings demonstrate that, although slow tourism is not explicitly mentioned in Texel’s current tourism policies and is not optimally practiced by visitors, the island does possesses a strong (policy) foundation for its future facilitation. Visitors and stakeholders also express a positive and receptive attitude towards slow tourism on Texel and identify opportunities, weaknesses, and areas for improvement to support its further facilitation and integration into Texel’s tourism policies and strategies
Blue and green infrastructure and physical activity: the inclusion of physical activity in climate adaption
This research focuses on the effect of blue and green infrastructure on physical activity/sporting behavior, specified to the Stadspark XXL in Dordrecht. Most cities focus too much on grey infrastructure, which can lead to heat stress in summer. This focus on grey infrastructure has negative consequences for the overall health of the population, as the city has trouble cooling down and people will not move around as much as they should. Blue and green infrastructure could be a solution to this problem. To find out how and in what way blue and green infrastructure influences physical activity/sporting behavior in combination with heat stress, the main question is; “to what extent and in what way are physical activity and sports included in climate adaptation with regard to heat stress?”. This will be done by doing literature research, analyzing policy documents and conducting interviews. The data that comes from this will be analyzed on the basis of the Sport Experience Design framework by Funk (2016) and the human health indicators by Pakzad & Osmond (2016)
Evaluations of high quality cycling routes
This research aimed to gain insight into the extent in which policies regarding high-quality cycling routes are evidence-based through a critical analysis of evaluation practices. As evaluations can be very valuable to future policies, it is important to understand the current state of evaluation processes concerning high-quality cycling routes. Therefore, the following main question was formulated for this research: To what extent are high-quality cycling routes evaluated consistently and how has this evaluation practice informed cycling policies? Two qualitative case studies (Gelderland and Utrecht) were used to analyse the policymaking- and evaluation process and key stakeholders. Data was gathered from policy- and evaluation documents and semi-structured interviews.
This study revealed that the influence of actors other than the provincial and municipal policymakers and political administrators was very limited. Both provinces use bicycle counts as (one of the) main form(s) of data gathering, but both provinces also use questionnaires for different purposes. Newly formed cycling policies are influenced by evaluations in several ways: firstly, evaluations can serve as a foundation or inspiration for new policies. Evaluations also serve as a justification for the Provincial Executive and the Provincial Council
