The role of the accused in English and Islamic criminal justice
This thesis is a comparative study of the role of the accused in the systems of
English and Islamic criminal justice. It seeks to explore the underlying
relationship between the individual and the state through an historical, structural
and contextual analysis of their rules relating to questioning and of confessions.
The analysis of the English system covers the period 1800 to 1984, with
particular reference to developments during the nineteenth century when the
foundations for the modern English state were established. The analysis of the
Islamic system combines traditionally Islamic and modern methods, assessing the
"Islamisation" movement in Malaysia through a religico-structural understanding
of juristic opinion from the four main schools of Sunnite jurisprudence.
The thesis contributes to existing knowledge on a number of levels: first, it
questions and revises the "myth" of "progress" that has dominated observations
of the history of the English criminal justice system; second, it elucidates the
relationship between Islamic law in theory and the law that is applied and
proposed in its name in Muslim states; third, it provides an analytical framework
for drawing comparisons between the underlying values of the systems of English
and Islamic criminal justice.
While acknowledging fundamental differences in terms of outlook and
articulation, the author concludes there are important similarities expressed
through such notions as "suspect" in the English system and "kafir"I"fasiq" in the
Islamic. These act as intermediate constitutional categories to whom the state
owe less protection. But the author notes also that these similarities are not
observed necessarily in the "law" which is implemented or proposed in Muslim
states; exact correspondence depends upon the over-arching political structure
and the institution of Caliphate.
The thesis is divided into six chapters: chapter one sets out the conventional view
of the historical development of English criminal procedure and evidence;
chapter two subjects that to a critique and chapter three offers a revised thesis.
Chapter four, explores methods for interpreting and explaining Islam; chapter
five sets out rules relating to confessions and questioning according to the four
Sunni schools; chapter six puts them into "context" through an examination of
the "Islamisation" process in Malaysia
Roland Barthes' Theory of "The Death of the Author": A Critical Analysis: رولان بارتھس کا نظریہ” مصنف کی موت“: تنقیدی جائزہ
This paper examines the critical reception of Roland Barthes' influential essay, "The Death of the Author." Published in 1967, the essay argues that the author's role in creating and interpreting a text is not central. Instead, Barthes suggests that a text functions as a complex system of signs and codes, generating meaning through the interplay of these elements. The reader actively participates in this process, constructing meaning based on their own experiences and understanding. Barthes' concept of the "death of the author" challenged traditional literary criticism, prompting new approaches that focus on the text itself and the reader's response. However, the essay has also been criticized for downplaying the role of the author and for its potential to lead to a relativistic approach to interpretation. This paper discusses the strengths and weaknesses of Barthes' argument, and considers its implications for the study of literature. It also examines the ways in which Barthes' essay has been interpreted and debated in the years since its publication. The paper concludes by arguing that Barthes' essay remains a valuable contribution to literary theory, even if its conclusions are not universally accepted. It offers a powerful challenge to traditional notions of authorial authority and provides a framework for understanding the role of the reader in the creation of meaning.

الشيخ السيّد نفيس الحسيني رحمة اللہ علیہ حیاتہ و آثارہ: SAYYED NAFEES Al-HUSSAINI: LIFE AND WORK
Sayyed Nafees Al-Hussaini, may God have mercy on him, was of high lineage, a great Sufi, a talented poet, a great author, and a professor. His full name was Sayyed Anwar Hussain S/O Sayyed Muhammad Ashraf Ali. Sayyed Nafees Al-Husseini was born on Saturday 13 Dhul-Qi’dah in the year 1351 AH, corresponding to March 11, 1933 AD, in the village of Kahoriala in the Sialkot District. He did not study in Arab Islamic religious schools and was not a graduate of Islamic universities, but God Almighty gave him knowledge, extensive information from Himself, and insight. Sayyed Nafees says that he moved from Faisalabad to Lahore in the month of Zul-Hajj in the year 1370 AH/September 1951 AD. Here, after a short time, I met the writer and calligrapher Taj al-Din, known as Zarrin. Sayyed Nafees used to teach people the art of calligraphy and teach students who longed to teach writing and the art of calligraphy. Sayyed Nafees was a talented poet, and his passion for poetry was innate to him. He started reciting poetry when he was a high school student. He wrote poetry by calling him “Zaidi” and “Nafees.” The subject of his poetry was love for the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and love for his family and companions. He published collections of his poetry, “Nafa’is al-Nabi(SAAW)” and “Barg e Gul”. Sayyed Nafees Al-Hussaini died on February 5, 2008 AD. Abd al-Rashid Qamar says about him: “There is no doubt that Sayyed Nafees al-Hussaini was elected by God. Divine power opened the door to spirituality before him during his writing. According to people of thought and theory, Sayyed was a religious leader.” I hope this article may help the readers to enhance knowledge about the great Sufi, a talented poet and a great author
Evaluating the Effectiveness of Author-Count Based Metrics in Measuring Scientific Contributions
The assessment and evaluation of the academic influence of the researcher is a challenging task. This task allows the scientific community to make valuable decisions, such as identifying leading experts in a specific field, nominating candidates for scientific awards, awarding scholarships/grants, promoting researchers, and selecting tenure positions. Scientists have proposed various varied and multifaceted metrics to determine the most influential researchers. These metrics are the citation count, total number of publications, hybrid approaches, h-index, and variants of the h-index. Contemporary research in this domain shows that there is no universally accepted yardstick available for determining the finest parameter to recognize the most influential researcher within a particular domain. Moreover, to recognize the potential metric, some researchers have conducted evaluation surveys. In these evaluation surveys, the researchers utilized a limited number of indices on a small and imbalanced dataset as well as on fictional case scenarios, which makes it challenging to determine the significance and influence of each metric over the others. The present study computed fourteen distinct metrics based on the author-count. Our aim is to determine the potential metrics. For experimental purposes, we collected 1050 researchers’ data from the mathematics domain. For the benchmark dataset, we have collected the awardee’s data of the last three decades of four different societies of mathematics domain. To evaluate these metrics, we first computed the Spearman correlations among the obtained values of these metrics to assess their similarities and differences. The results showed a high degree of correlation among these metrics. However, some metrics represent weak correlations, signifying that their rankings are highly dissimilar to those of the other metrics. Furthermore, the position of award winners is checked in the top 10, 50, and 100 return records based on a ranked list of each metric. The potential value of each metric such as the hf metric, indicates that 60% of the awardees in the top 10% of the ranked list are associated with this, whereas the potential value of fractional g metric is linked with 49% of the awardees in the top 100% of the ranked list. In addition, it is further scrutinized that most of the award winners lie in a top position belonging to IMS, LMS, and AMS society return by fractional g-index, gf index, and gm index, which indicates that there is some relationship between these societies and metrics
