Portraits of Leonardo da Vinci
No full textUsing an iterative method, applied to image processing, a portrait of a young man, probably a self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci, is restored. Merging this portrait with the self-portrait in red chalk, we can have the features of a middle-aged Leonardo. This digital portrait can be compared with the image of Plato, depicted by Raphael in the Scuola di Atene, generally considered as a portrait of Leonardo. The iterative method used for the image processing had been developed by the author on previous iterative calculations used to solve the Boltzmann equatio

No full textThe aim of this study is to valuate the opportunity to associate both laparoscopic Nissen-Rossetti fundoplication and cholecystectomy in patients with gallbladder cholelithiasis and gastro-oesophageal acid reflux (endoscopically and pHmetrically assessed), considerating that the gallbladder removal makes duodenal-gastric reflux worse. From 2005 until 2007 we associated laparoscopic Nissen-Rossetti fundoplication and cholecystectomy in 10 patiens, who presented surgical indications for gallbladder cholelithiasis and gastro-oesophageal reflux. Clinical data, surgical procedures and post-operative complications were compared to our esperiency on the singular procedure (laparoscopic Nissen-Rossetti fundoplication and cholecystectomy). Results were valuated at 3, 6 and 12 months after surgical interventions by clinical and instrumental follow up (24-pH-metry and oesophagus-gastro-duodenoscopy). The analysis of instrumental data of these associated procedures doesn't present significative differences between the singular surgical approach. In all the patients treated by combined procedure, the follow-up shows a normal pHmetric exam, a good control on the acid reflux by fundosplication, absence of distal oesophagitis and gastric reflux symptoms. The association of laparoscopic Nissen-Rossetti fundoplication and laparoscopic cholecystectomy is indicated in patients who present both pathologies and needs to be considerating in relations to the good results and the low postoperatoric morbidity

No full textPower Exchanges (PXs) are key market institutions in open and market-based electricity industries. This paper aims at contributing to the ongoing debate on why and how to regulate Power Exchanges in the EU market integration context. . The paper starts by stating that two different types of PXs have to be distinguished, i.e. "Merchant" PXs and the "Cost of Service Regulated" PXs. The paper continues by comparing the typical incentives of these two types of PXs to perform the basic PX tasks in an isolated national market and in a market integration context. The paper concludes by deriving from this analytical frame the most relevant regulatory actions..Regulation, Exchanges, Grid access, Power Markets.

No full textA company that pursues illicit practices may crowd out competitors that behave legally eroding the public good of legality and integrity. Recently born institutional legality ratings tackle this problem. Redistributive policy actions aimed to tax “defectors” (i.e. buyers of unrated products)
in favor of “co-operators” (i.e. buyers of “legality-rated” products) may further enforce legality, and fight corruption. We analyze the impact of the legality-rating frame by means of a randomized experiment. Our findings document that redistribution mechanisms, the legality frame and the conformity information design contribute to alleviate the prisoner’s dilemma and generate significant deviations from the Nash Equilibrium.status: Publishe
