No full textLa nozione di verbo interiore ha suscitato notevole interesse nel dibattito filosofico-ermeneutico contemporaneo, in particolare nella suo accezione agostiniana di verbum in corde. Il merito è da attribuirsi soprattutto alla riabilitazione proposta da Gadamer nella terza parte di Wahrheit und Methode e agli studi proseguiti a tal proposito da Jean Grondin. Se nell’ambito della filosofia analitica tale nozione rinvia al problema della struttura linguistica del pensiero, nell’ermeneutica filosofica il verbo interiore rimanda al problema della sussistenza del circolo ermeneutico. La tesi di Grondin è che, riabilitando l’agostiniano verbo interiore, Gadamer abbia voluto difendere l’aspirazione all’universalità dell’ermeneutica. Più in generale, il verbum in corde è l’adeguato paradigma per ogni ermeneutica dalla veemenza ontologica. D’accordo con quest’ipotesi, lo studio insegue e trova, pur secondo gradi diversi, la nozione agostiniana di verbo interiore lungo le principali tappe evolutive dell’ermeneutica veritativa, che sono Heidegger, Gadamer e Ricœur. In disaccordo con Grondin, tuttavia, la ricerca non intende il verbum in corde come segno del dialogo che si trova dietro a ogni enunciato. Il verbo interiore, in particolare nella sua accezione agostiniana, parla molto più del monologo, di Dio o dell’essere, che irrompe oltre ogni dialogo ben riuscito. Di conseguenza, la ricerca utilizza la nozione non più come mise en abyme della circolarità ermeneutica tra il detto e il suo orizzonte non-detto di verità, ma come perno critico delle pretese ermeneutiche di verità come svelamento. Lo scopo è quello di mettere in luce i limiti di una filosofia che non crede fino in fondo alla sua stessa effettività e che finisce per dare corso a un’attitudine passiva e rinunciataria di fronte ai propri compiti.The classical concept of inner word – as Augustinian verbum in corde in particular – had a certain impact on philosophical hermeneutics. Gadamer has vaguely treated it in the third part of Truth and Method and Jean Grondin has gone deeper into the subject. In the analytic context, the inner word concerns especially the debate about the linguistic structure of thought. On the continental scene instead, it refers to the hermeneutical circle and its possibility to be not vicious. According to Grondin, Gadamer had the intention, rehabilitating the concept, to defend hermeneutics’ ambitions to universality. More generally, the Augustinian verbum in corde is the adequate paradigm for hermeneutics’ ontological vehemence. On the one hand, this study agrees with Grondin’s hypothesis. Traces of the concept are found in Heidegger, Gadamer and Ricœur, i.e. along the main axes of the ontological hermeneutics. On the other hand, however, the verbum in corde is not defined here as the sign of the dialogue always existing behind any sentence, as Grondin does. According to Augustine’s De Trinitate and a protestant tradition after it, the verbum in corde is understood here as the sign of the donum dei, God’s – or Being’s – monologue always persisting behind any (good) human speech act. The concept of inner word works in this essay as critical pivot for the hermeneutical pretentions of truth as unveiling. The aim is to denounce the limits of a philosophical tradition that does not really believe in its own effectiveness and that privileges a passive and renunciative attitude in front of its duties
