Guglielmo Riva (1627-1677) and the end of Hepatocentrism : a 17th-Century Painting
No full textDuring the seventeenth century, the description of the lymphatic system provided a decisive contribution to resolving the misconceptions of Galenic physiology concerning the production of blood in the liver. The transition from a liver-centered (hepatocentrism) to a heart-centered model (cardiocentrism) was fundamental in the history of medicine, since it allowed the role of the liver and of the heart in the bodily processes to be more correctly identified. The modification of the medical knowledge on the liver and its functions during that period is well represented in a 17th-century painting,"ll Fegato" ("The Liver"), probably belonging to the "anatomical museum" of the Roman surgeon Giovanni Guglielmo Riva (1627-1677). In particular, this Italian physician significantly contributed to the discovery of the lymphatic system and to the study of the hematopoiesis. Thus, this painting as well as the figure of Guglielmo Riva would deserve a major consideration in the history of medicine and of hepatology in particular

No full textL'attenzione verso i diritti di bambini e ragazzi nella loro relazione con i media si è spesso tradotta, in termini politico-normativi e pedagogici, in azioni di protezione, tutela e censura che non sembrano essere sufficientemente adeguate a risolvere, ma prima ancora a comprendere, non solo le nuove forme di relazione dei giovani con strumenti di comunicazione sempre più innovativi ma anche la più delicata questione del riconoscimento dei diritti di partecipazione e coinvolgimento dei minori alle produzioni mediali.
Nel volume vengono delineate le principali direzioni di questo dibattito, cercando di stabilire quali siano le risposte più adeguate ai quesiti relativi alle identità e ai ruoli dei minori di età nella relazione con i media. Punto di partenza del ragionamento è la centralità dell'infanzia e dell'adolescenza nell'informazione e nella comunicazione mediatica veneta, analizzata tentando di individuare i meccanismi di produzione adulta di senso comune relativo al mondo dell'infanzia e dell'adolescenza e le modalità di costruzione mediatica di soggettività.
L'insieme dei contributi offriranno al lettore elementi utili alla comprensione di quella connessione media-infanzia indispensabile per il riconoscimento delle discorsività sui minori che avvengono non solo nel mondo interno ai mezzi di comunicazione di massa ma anche nel mondo esterno ai media stessi.

Women, Power and Culture in the European Transition between the XVIIth and the XVIIIth Centuries
No full textMany studies have already reconstructed the biographies of princesses and queens, but, still, too few have focused on the networks of relationships such women engaged in. Were they properly taken into account, such networks would reveal a very complex court space, and a female-oriented power management even more vital and effective than the one usually emphasized in the historical narrative. Indeed, besides the close-up protagonists, a mosaic of personalities with political tasks in informal spaces happened to play crucial roles in the diplomatic negotiations that do not emerge from the official sources, however important they were for the management of the courts’ politics. These study sheds light on the relocation and exchange of women in the European courts’ system. This resulted also in the circulation of cultural models, languages, lifestyles, and the crossbreeding of the different cultures that entered into contact with them. Indeed, the study of the network of relationships that women built inside the courtly world of the Ancien Régime allows us to expand the historian’s viewpoint in a multidisciplinary way, embracing the political, social, economic, cultural, artistic and religious history
