Travel Time Forecasting and Dynamic Routes Design for Emergency Vehicles
AbstractA framework to dynamically design routes of emergency vehicles taking into account within-day variations of link travel times on a road network is presented. The framework integrates two modelling components: (i) a within-day dynamic assignment model that simulates the interaction between the time-varying network and travel demand, and (ii) a dynamic vehicle routing model that design optimal routes of emergency vehicles. The linking variable of the two modelling components is the short-term forecasted travel time, which allows to design routes of emergency vehicles based on anticipatory knowledge of traffic dynamics on the road network. Some procedures of the proposed framework are calibrated and validated in an experimental evacuation test site
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Transport models and intelligent transportation system to support urban evacuation planning process
This study focuses on risk management and specifically the exposure component. The exposure may be reduced by means of evacuation. This measure allows people and goods to be rescued from the area where the calamitous effects are announced. In the past years, many models have been proposed to simulate and design transport system under evacuation conditions. It must be underlined that the models applied to ordinary conditions cannot be directly applied to evacuation conditions due to very strong differences in demand, supply and interaction. Other models have been developed for emergency conditions. Nevertheless they consider only specific aspects and do not provide a comprehensive framework. This study presents the main quantitative results of a long-lasting research project for which a unifying approach for the simulation and design of a transportation system under evacuation conditions is adopted. In this project, an intelligent transportation system (ITS) is implemented to monitor real evacuation tests in a town where an emergency event has been simulated and experimented. In this study, a general methodology is reported with the description of the main models and procedures. Models are calibrated and validated by means of observed data obtained from ITS
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. A sustainable mobility system in an urban area: impacts analysis on land use and travel demand
Mobility as a Service: Insights from pilot studies across different Italian settings
Mobility as a Service (MaaS) has been tested in numerous cities and enables users to travel within an integrated system of collective and shared transport services, with a single travel package or bundle, giving them the ability to plan, book and pay for a trip using a unique technological platform. At this stage of the MaaS system experimentation, a detailed analysis on a small scale enables, through the understanding of the mechanisms governing travel choices, the planning of a MaaS service on a large scale that has the right flexibility to adapt to different territorial contexts. The paper reports the main findings of a study carried out as part of a national research project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Within this project, evaluation methodologies were developed (Technology Acceptance Model, Revealed Preferences and Intended Preference surveys), pilot surveys were conducted on samples of potential users, and the results were analysed and compared to assess the potential activation of a MaaS and to estimate its impacts on mobility. Two pilot experiments and an extended test, with a sample of almost 200 users, were carried out in different territorial contexts in Italy: the metropolitan areas of Reggio Calabria and Messina, the extra-urban area of Gioia Tauro and the urban area of the metropolitan city of Cagliari. The activities should be regarded as preliminary and indispensable stage for the design of more extensive investigations, as well as for the planning of a possible MaaS system in the areas examined
