In Materia Should Be Used Instead of In Materio
Scientific writing frequently uses Latin words and phrases. In most cases, the reason is an evident
continuity in exploiting the same terms from ancient (and famous) scientists and sources. However,
in some cases, such expressions are proposed in contemporary times with an updated meaning.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Modeling of Short-Term Synaptic Plasticity Effects in ZnO Nanowire-Based Memristors Using a Potentiation-Depression Rate Balance Equation
This letter deals with short-term plasticity (STP) effects in the conduction characteristics of single crystalline ZnO nanowires, including potentiation, depression and relaxation phenomena. The electrical behavior of the structures is modeled following Chua's approach for memristive systems, i.e. one equation for the electron transport and one equation for the memory state of the device. Linear conduction is assumed in the first case together with a voltage-controlled rate balance equation for the normalized conductance. The devices are subject to electrical stimuli such as ramped and pulsed voltages of both polarities with varying amplitude and frequency. In each case, the proposed model is able to account for the STP effects exhibited by ZnO highlighting its neuromorphic capabilities for bio-inspired circuits. An equivalent circuit representation and the SPICE implementation of the compact model is also provided

Suspended Microchannel resonators with integrated electrodes for thermal and electrical characterization of liquids
Suspended microchannel resonator (SMR) has been demonstrated as a versatile technique, allowing to measure mechanical, morphological or even optical properties of cells. However, physical properties of cells may substantially change depending on the chemical composition of the suspension medium. Therefore, it is essential developing novel multiparametric techniques able to provide a complete understanding of the biological samples by characterizing also the liquid in which the cells are suspended. In this work we both theoretically and experimentally introduce a novel electro-mechanical sensing technique using SMR devices with integrated electrodes that allow measuring different physicochemical properties of the liquid sample as thermal conductivity, dielectric constant, electrical conductivity or even concentration of ions. These measured liquid properties can ultimately be used to complement other typical SMR measurements, such as mass. Moreover, we show that this electro-mechanical approach can be also used as a transduction method and as a way of tuning the mechanical resonance frequency
Compact modeling of the I-V characteristics of ZnO nanowires including nonlinear series resistance effects
This letter deals with the compact modeling of the I-V characteristics of single crystalline ZnO nanowires (NW) attached to two metal electrodes (Pt and Ag). Starting from the standard model of electron transport in these structures based on the series combination of two back-to-back Schottky diodes, three different approaches which account for the role played by the NW series resistance are presented. The first approach considers a fixed potential drop across the NW, the second one involves the solution to the problem of a diode with linear and nonlinear series resistances using the Lambert W function, and the third one consists in a behavioral model with continuous first derivative suitable for circuit simulation environments. In the three cases, the proposed solutions are consistent with the observed electrical constraints both at low (linear I-V relationship) and high (current saturation) voltages
