A General Purpose Programming Model & Technology for Developing Working Environments in MAS
In human society, almost any cooperative working context accounts for different kinds of object, tool, artifact in general, that humans adopt, share and intelligently exploit so as to support their working activities, in particular social ones. According to theories in human sciences such as Activity Theory, such entities have a key role in determining the success or failure of the activities, playing an essential function in simplifying complex tasks and—more generally—in designing solutions that scale with activity complexity. Analogously to the human case, we claim that also (cognitive) multi-agent systems (MAS) could greatly benefit from the definition and systematic exploitation of a suitable notion of working environment, composed by different sorts of artifacts, dynamically constructed, shared and used by agents to support their working activities. Along this line, in this paper we describe a programming model called A&A (Agents and Artifacts), which aims at directly modelling and engineering such aspects in the context of cognitive MAS. Besides the conceptual framework, we present the current state of prototyping technologies implementing A&A principles—CArtAgO platform in particular—, and show how they can be integrated with existing cognitive MAS programming frameworks, adopting the Jason programming platform as the reference case

The Geography of Uncertainty. A Conceptual Model of Early Modern Globalization and the Current Crisis
This book outlines the characteristics and implications of a potential geography of uncertainty. In doing so, it analyses this concept in reference to both the origins of uncertainty in Early Modern Age and the current geopolitical situation.
The book adopts an interdisciplinary approach to uncertainty, drawing on global perspectives and literature to define its meanings and characteristics. In order to develop a thorough and precise understanding of the geography of uncertainty, a broad perspective is adopted, which includes other forms of knowledge in which the concept of uncertainty is firmly established. As such the book creates temporal links, that may occasionally be far off from one another, to present a geographical perspective of uncertainty. It provides an interpretation of the phenomenon of globalization in a new way, relating it to the first European openness to global spaces, the Early Modern Age, and identifying the transition from the medieval world to the Modern Age as the first manifestation of uncertainty in geography. Uncertainty is more prevalent than ever in today's geopolitical, economic, financial and social reality, as well as the ongoing emergencies and crises.
The book adopts an interdisciplinary approach rooted in the geography of Early Modernity by referring to geopolitical scenarios, literature and philosophy, to target the historical roots and the prevailing configuration of the geography of uncertainty. It will appeal to scholars and students of human and political geography, politics, philosophy, international relations, economics and history

L’arte del rappresentare geografico. Un confronto tra cartografia e pittura nel Secolo d’oro dei Paesi Bassi
"The article aims at analysing the cartography in the Netherlands during the 17th century, starting from a comparison with the artistic production in the same period. Painting and cartography will be shown as results of the same economic, social and political context, deeply changed since the independence of the late 16th century. The contacts and interactions between the two areas of interest will be studied, in order to investigate the causes and peculiarities of the cartographic development occurred in the Netherlands in the 17th century, which was defined as an «happy industry» in the Golden Age. The article is based on Vermeer’s and other Dutch artists paintings, hosted in the exhibition Vermeer. Il Secolo d’Oro dell’arte olandese [Vermeer. The Golden Age of the Dutch Art]. In many of those artworks, the artists exemplary reproduced maps and globes, giving a clear idea of which role the geographical elements have had in the Dutch development and the article will try to explain why they were distributed that much.

Programming with event loops and control loops – From actors to agents
Event loops are a main control architecture to implement actors. In this paper we first analyse the impact that this choice has on the design of actor-based concurrent programs. Then, we discuss control loops as the main architecture adopted to implement agents, and we frame them as an extension of event loops effective to improve the programming of autonomous components that need to integrate both reactive and proactive behaviors, in a modular way
