Unordered XML Pattern Matching with Tree Signatures (Extended Abstract)

A query engine prototype for personalization of multi-version XML documents
This software product implements a prototype of the query engine representing the core of the personalization framework for multi-version XML repositories described in the paper "Efficient management of multi-version clinical guidelines" (doi:10.1016/j.jbi.2012.07.005, U-GOV ID: 132133) and used for performance evaluation of the proposed personalization approach.
The query engine, implementing optimized combinations of various solutions based on a holistic technology for effecting multi-version slicing of XML documents according to both temporal and semantic user-defined constraints, has been developed using Java JDK 1.6 and ad hoc data structures.
With respect to the version used for the experimental part of the work "Efficient management of multi-version clinical guidelines", in the current version of the prototype, management of accessory data structures for the application of semantics aspects has been improved.
The prototype is running on an Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz OSX workstation, equipped with 2 GB RAM and a 160 GB SATA disk, located at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
Exploiting Related Digital Library Corpora with Query Rewriting (Extended Abstract)

In this paper, we present the preliminary results of the ongoing research activity we are carrying out in the context of approximate XML query answering when the schemas of the XML documents are available. The method we propose involves a preliminary schema matching process, which automatically identifies the semantic and structural similarities between the schema elements to be used in the subsequent operation of query rewriting, in which a query written on a source schema is automatically rewritten in order to be compatible with the other useful XML documents. The proposed approach has been implemented in a web service, named XML S MART, which is part of the open architecture proposed in the ongoing Italian CNR co-funded ECD Project

This volume collects the papers selected for presentation at the Eighteenth
Italian Symposium on Advanced Database Systems (SEBD 2010), held in Rimini, Italy, from the 20th to the 23rd of June 2010.
SEBD is the major annual event of the Italian database research community.
The symposium is conceived as a gathering forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas and experiences among researchers and experts from the academy and industry, about all aspects of database systems and their applications.
SEBD is back in Rimini after sixteen years,
and it is interesting to observe how the landscape
of the Italian database research community has changed.
In 1994 twenty-one paper were accepted, now the
number has more than doubled, meaning that the
community has been steadily growing. Most of the topics
considered in 1994 are still around, even if the language,
the formalisms and the reference applications have changed.
The web was e-mail, ftp, Usenet, a small amount of HTML pages here
and there, and little more, now it is the
pervasive engine of information dissemination and search.
The web is so powerful to give rise to a series of brand
new ideas and applications, due to a mix of possibility and necessity.
Social systems across the web, mobility, heterogeneity
were not conceivable in the early 1990s.
Semantic web, data mining and warehousing,
streaming techniques, large scale integration
are necessary to deal with the growing amount
of data and information.
The SEBD 2010 program reflects the current interests of the Italian database researchers and covers most of the topics considered by the international research community.
Sixty papers were submitted to SEBD 2010, of which thirty-four were extended abstracts, twenty-two were research papers, and two were software demonstrations. Fifty-one papers were accepted for presentation, of which thirty-two were extended abstracts, seventeen were full research papers, and two were software demonstrations.
Besides paper presentations, the program includes two invited talks, the first by Hector Garcia-Molina (Stanford University, CA) and the second by Amr El Abbadi (University of California, CA), and a tutorial by Divesh Srivastava (AT&T Labs-Research).
We would like to thank all the authors who submitted papers and all symposium participants. We are grateful to the members of the Program Committee and the external referees for their thorough work in reviewing submissions with expertise and patience, and to the members of the SEBD Steering Committee for their support in the organization of SEBD 2010. Web2Touch 2018: Semantic Technologies in Smart Information Sharing and Web Collaboration
We present Web2Touch 2018, one of the Tracks at the 27th IEEE WETICE Conference. Web2Touch 2018 includes five full papers and one short paper tackling very up-to-date issues in information sharing and collaboration, including, among others, big data analytics, development of virtual agents and assistants, privacy and security analysis and evaluation. Papers come from areas such as knowledge engineering, linked data, big data, security, safety, and web science. The overall focus is on how research on semantics coupled with crucial topics such as big data analysis, privacy, knowledge representation, and enterprise contents management, among the others, can improve services and collaboration and push forward new ways of interpreting the role of the web
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
