Una nueva Revista Científica en Investigación Forestal en Bolivia
No full textForests represent the natural heritage of every nation that possesses them. Bolivia takes pride in having a vast area of tropical forests that remain in good conservation status, with a significant portion managed sustainably for forest production. The economic value of forests is a largely overlooked topic within society, as they should not only be assessed based on the timber that can be harvested but also for the myriad of other products beyond wood, the environmental services they provide, and their role in maintaining and reproducing biodiversity in its fullest range. Nonetheless, it is important to acknowledge that forests face significant threats such as deforestation and unplanned colonization, which facilitate land-use changes that expand agricultural and livestock areas in regions that should be subject to sustainable forest management.
Research on our forests has been robust since the 1990s, and this body of knowledge has served and continues to serve as the foundation for technical and political decision-making by the State in the pursuit of conservation and management. The current political context in Bolivia and neighboring countries presents research scenarios that differ somewhat from those of the past decade. Forest research should not only focus on forest management but also address aspects of restoring degraded sites, the progression of forest threats, integrated forest management, and other uses, agroforestry, forest plantations, the new technologies employed in the sector, as well as social and economic factors, among others.
Universities are contributing to this mission by training forestry professionals in various higher education institutions within the Bolivian University System. For instance, the Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno has, to date, graduated over 700 forestry professionals and has conducted more than 400 research projects, including theses and directed works, on various aspects of the forestry sector.Los bosques son patrimonio natural de cada país que lo posee. Bolivia tiene el orgullo de contar con una enorme superficie de bosques tropicales aun en buen estado de conservación, y buena parte bajo manejo sostenible de producción forestal. El valor económico del bosque es un tema desconocido para la sociedad en general, pues no solo se lo debe valorar por la madera que se puede extraer, sino por el sin número de otros productos diferentes a la madera, por los servicios ambientales que presta, por el mantenimiento y reproducción de la biodiversidad en su más completa gama. Sin embargo, hay que reconocer que los bosques tienen amenazas fuertes como la deforestación o la colonización no planificada que facilita el cambio de uso de suelo que aumentan las áreas agrícolas y ganaderas en áreas que debían realizarse manejo sostenible de bosques.
La investigación en nuestros bosques ha sido fuerte en la década de los años 90 en adelante, y todo ese conocimiento ha sido y sigue siendo la base para la toma de decisiones técnicas y políticas del Estado en la búsqueda de la conservación y manejo de los mismos. La coyuntura política actual en Bolivia y países vecinos, permiten tener escenarios de investigación un tanto distintos a las de la década pasada. La investigación forestal no solo debe centrarse en el manejo del bosque, sino abordar aspectos de restauración de sitios degradados, avance de las amenazas del bosque, manejo integral de bosques y otros usos, agroforesteria, plantaciones forestales, la nueva tecnología utilizada el sector, aspectos sociales y económicos, entre otros.
Las universidades vienen contribuyendo en esta misión, formando profesionales forestales en las diferentes casas superiores de estudio del Sistema Boliviano de Universidades. Solo por dar un dato, la Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno, a la fecha ha titulado más de 700 profesionales forestales y ha realizado más de 400 investigaciones entres tesis y trabajos dirigidos, sobre diferentes aspectos en los bosques tropicales de Bolivia, de los cuales algunos también fueron publicados en revistas científicas nacionales e internacionales. Igualmente, se tiene en el país muchos profesionales forestales y de ramas afines que han sido capacitados en universidades externas, quienes están generando mucha información valiosa.
Por esta razón, con el fin de facilitar la difusión y transmisión de los resultados de investigación de todos aquellos que se dedican a realizarla, la Carrera de Ingeniería Forestal de la Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno, Santa Cruz, Bolivia, ha creado la REVISTA FORESTAL TROPICAL, para que se convierta en un medio de difusión eficiente de los trabajos de investigación que se desarrollen, tanto en el territorio nacional como fuera de nuestras fronteras.
Hoy nos complacemos en lanzar el primer número de la Revista y esperamos sea de su completo agrado para quienes gustan de la lectura de temas de actualidad forestal. Nuestra meta es que en breve la Revista pueda estar indexada y tenga acceso a través de buscadores de bibliografía nacional e internacional.
Desde el Comité Editorial deseamos que sea en buena hora el lanzamiento de esta nueva revista científica, y que los investigadores hagan de ella un canal de difusión y transferencia de tecnología para el desarrollo del sector forestal y de los sectores relacionados a los recursos naturales
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
