Bose-Einstein condensation and superfluidity of excitons in Cu2O
International audienceIt is now well established that the remarkable superfluid properties of liquid helium below 2.17 K are intimately related to the Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) of 4He atoms (no superfluidity is observed at the same temperature in 3He, a liquid of fermions). Already in the 1960s, it was pointed out that excitons in semiconductors could provide another system where BEC and superfluidity could be observed. S.A. Moskalenko, Soviet Phys. Solid State 4 (1962) 199, I.M. Blatt, K.W. Boer, W. Brandt, Phys. Rev. 126 (1962) 1691, V.A. Gergel, R.F. Kazarinov, R.A. Suris, Soviet Physics JETP 27 (1968) 159. Excitonic superfluidity corresponds to a frictionless transport of electronic energy through the crystal. Motivated by experimental evidence of high Bose–Einstein quantum degeneracy (D. Snoke et al., BEC, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1994), a search for excitonic superfluidity has been undertaken in Cu2O. This paper reports on the current status in this material
Rebuilding the Eastern Baltic cod stock under environmental change - Part II: The economic viability of a marine protected area
This study adds a cost analysis of the Eastern Baltic cod fishery to the existing model presented in Röckmann et al. (forthcoming). As cost data on this international fishery do not exist, available data from Denmark are extrapolated to the whole international fishery. Additionally, unit and total variable costs are simulated and the sensitivity to a set of different cost-stock and cost-output elasticities is tested. The study supports preliminary conclusions that a temporary marine reserve policy, which focuses on protecting the Eastern Baltic cod spawning stock in ICES subdivision 25, is a valuable fisheries management tool to (a) rebuild the overexploited Eastern Baltic cod stock and (b) increase operating profits. The negative effects of climate change can be postponed for at least 20 years – depending on the assumed rate of future climate change. Including costs in the economic analysis does not change the ranking of management policies as proposed in the previous study where costs were neglected.Development, Baltic cod, cost-stock elasticity, cost-output elasticity, sensitivity analysis, climate change scenario, management, policy, temporal marine reserve
This work is a result of the author’s professional and academic experiences in the period of two years during the professional mastership in music. Contains four parts. The first part is a memoir about the author’s professional life, beginning the time of studies in the music school, continuing the period of music college and the very professional trajectory, and finally, as a conclusion, the current time including graduation and the experiences that were obtained by the author during that whole period. The second part presents the product developed, which is a violin recital whose repertoire is based on the pieces of Russian composers and representatives of the Russian violin School, as well as a brief description of its preparatory process. The third part includes an academic article in which an author raises the specific subjects of violin technique applying her experience as a symphony orchestra musician in order to help the young musicians in their adaptation to the professional demands. The last part presents the reports of supervised practices with details of the activities carried out.
