    Exceptionally preserved fossils from Fossil Lagerstätten contribute greatly to resolving details on the history of life on Earth. For the first time, the “Paläontologische Gesellschaft” (PalGes) and the “Palaeontological Society of China” (PSC) combined forces to jointly present an international conference aimed to highlight and encourage the study of exceptionally well-preserved fossil sites worldwide. The conference focused on all aspects of palaeontology and geobiology, also incorporating related fields like biogeochemistry, biology, sedimentology and stratigraphy. The present volume contains the abstracts of more than 275 lectures and posters presented during the joint international conference “Palaeobiology & Geobiology of Fossil Lagerstätten through Earth History”. This year’s conference was held at the northern campus of the Georg-August University in Göttingen, Germany, from September 23-27, 2013.     This paper analyzes greenhouse gas emissions that build up an atmospheric stock which depreciates over time. Weakly renegotiation- proof and subgame perfect equilibria in a game of international emission reduction exist if countries put a sufficiently high weight on future payoffs, even though there is a discontinuity in the required discount factor due to the integrity of the number of punishing countries.     DLBCL 1L—What to Expect beyond R-CHOP?

    The R-CHOP immunochemotherapy protocol has been the first-line (1L) standard of care (SOC) for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients for decades and is curative in approximately two-thirds of patients. Numerous randomized phase III trials, most of them in an “R-CHOP ± X” design, failed to further improve outcomes. This was mainly due to increased toxicity, the large proportion of patients not in need of more than R-CHOP, and the extensive molecular heterogeneity of the disease, raising the bar for “one-size-fits-all” concepts. Recently, an R-CHP regimen extended by the anti-CD79b antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) Polatuzumab Vedotin proved superior to R-CHOP in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) in the POLARIX phase III trial. Moreover, a number of targeted agents, especially the Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor Ibrutinib, seem to have activity in certain patient subsets in 1L and are currently being tested in front-line regimens. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells, achieving remarkable results in ≥3L scenarios, are being exploited in earlier lines of therapy, while T-cell-engaging bispecific antibodies emerge as conceptual competitors of CAR T-cells. Hence, we present here the findings and lessons learnt from phase III 1L trials and piloting phase II studies in relapsed/refractory (R/R) and 1L settings, and survey chemotherapy-free regimens with respect to their efficacy and future potential in 1L. Novel agents and their mode of action will be discussed in light of the molecular landscape of DLBCL and personalized 1L perspectives for the challenging patient population not cured by the SOC

    Benefits of GMR sensors for high spatial resolution NDT applications

    Magneto resistance sensors like GMR (giant magneto resistance) or TMR (tunnel magneto resistance) are widely used in industrial applications, examples are position measurement and read heads of hard disk drives. However, in case of non-destructive testing (NDT) applications these sensors, although their properties are outstanding like high spatial resolution, high field sensitivity, low cost and low energy consumption, never reached a technical transfer to an application beyond sci-entific scope. This paper deals with benefits of GMR/TMR sensors in terms of high spatial resolution testing for different NDT applica-tions. The first example demonstrates the preeminent advantages of MR-elements compared with conventional coils used in eddy current testing (ET). The probe comprises one-wire excitation with an array of MR elements. This led to a better spatial resolution in terms of neighboring defects. The second section concentrates on MFL-testing (magnetic flux leakage) with active field excitation during and before test-ing. The latter illustrated the capability of highly resolved crack detection of a crossed notch. This example is best suited to show the ability of tiny magnetic field sensors for magnetic material characterization of a sample surface. Another example is based on characterization of samples after tensile test. Here, no external field is applied. The magnetization is only changed due to external load and magnetostriction leading to a field signature which GMR sensors can resolve. This gives access to internal changes of the magnetization state of the sample under test
