No full textIl saggio, sulla scorta di una meticolosa indagine compiuta presso l'archivio privato Pacanowski, affronta un'attenta disamina critica del lavoro svolto dall'architetto di origine polacche nell'ambito di alcuni spazi commerciali creati per la ditta di calze PRM. Caratteri originali riferiti al panorama progettuale milanese e alle inevitabili suggestioni recepite dalla lezione di Le Corbusier, conosciuto di persona a Parigi tra il 1930 e il 1935, rendono questi lavori una testimonianza significativa della "architettura dei negozi" per la quale negli anni Trenta e Quaranta del Novecento si è animato un vivace dibattito tra i professionisti più avveduti, fino a modificare, di riflesso, gli spazi della vita privata e il volto più frequentato delle città.The essay, on the basis of a meticulous investigation carried out at Pacanowski's private archives, deals with a careful critical examination of the work carried out by the Polish-born architect in the field of some commercial spaces created for the PRM stockings company. The original characteristics referred to the Milanese design scene and the inevitable suggestions received from the lesson of Le Corbusier, whom he met in person in Paris between 1930 and 1935, make these works a significant testimony of the "architecture of stores" for which, in the 1930s and 1940s, a lively debate was animated among the most shrewd professionals, to the point of modifying, as a consequence, the spaces of private life and the most frequented face of the cities
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textNell’ottobre del 2011 Elena Manzo e Bruno Schettini organizzarono un memorabile convegno intitolato “La città che si rinnova. Gli sviluppi storici e l’esperienza attuale”, al quale parteciparono studiosi di fama internazionale discutendo gli sviluppi della città del Novecento attraverso interpretazioni originali, differenziate dalle esperienze e dalle competenze dei vari autori. Furono esaminate le scelte politiche, sociali, architettoniche e urbanistiche che avevano determinato i processi di trasformazione dei territori e delle città, dei centri storici e delle aree periferiche in età contemporanea. I lavori di quell’importante consesso, raccolti da Elena Manzo, sono testimoniati dall’importante volume edito nel 2012 intitolato “La città che si rinnova. Architettura e scienze umane tra storia e attualità: prospettive di analisi a confronto”. Il Convegno del 2011, tuttavia, aveva proposto tematiche di grande vitalità, che richiedevano ulteriori riflessioni. Così la stessa Elena Manzo, con i colleghi Chiara Ingrosso, Luca Molinari e Riccardo Serraglio, del Dipartimento di Architettura e Disegno Industriale dell’Università Vanvitelli, hanno ragionato nel tempo sulle della “Città che si rinnova”, coinvolgendo accademici e studiosi di livello internazionale. Questi hanno offerto nuove riflessioni critiche su momenti e aspetti del divenire di emblematiche città europee e extraeuropee – da Napoli a Buenos Aires, da Istanbul a New York – raccolte nel presente volume. Si deduce, dalla silloge dei saggi, l’impossibilità di leggere i fenomeni urbani contemporanei come processi lineari e direzionati. Emerge, al contrario, la complessità delle metamorfosi urbane attraverso l’interpretazione dei casi significativi considerati dagli autori che su scale di lettura multiple, dal singolo manufatto alla complessiva forma urbis, propongono interessanti riflessioni sul continuo divenire delle città. In definitiva, le analisi di molteplici processi di trasformazione della città contemporanea, approcciati attraverso prospettive metodologiche di varie discipline, forniscono un insieme di ragionamenti sulla realtà attuale che, oltre a costituire un prezioso bagaglio di conoscenza, forniscono efficaci indicazioni per l’individuazione di efficaci metodologie operative
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
