conceptual metaphor X IS WAR within media and institutional discourse in three French speaking areas, using the Sketch Engine textometric analysis platform. Numerous studies, starting with the founding work of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) have
highlighted the weight of conventional metaphor in argumentation techniques
and the orientation of public opinion; numerous debates have also highlighted
the potential drifts linked to the abusive use of metaphor, particularly war
metaphor (Jamet 2006; Semino 2021). However, everyday discourse is still often
populated with war metaphors, in a wide variety of fields. Our study focuses on
the discursive realizations of the word "lutte" (struggle, fight) as a linguistic expression linked to the conceptual metaphor of war: we will analyze privileged collocations of this
metaphor in the French language in three corpora based on media communication, as well as in three corpora of institutional discourse, in order to verify similarities and divergences in a diaphasic and diatopic perspective

No full textLes qualités d’enseignante et de chercheuse excellente que les amis et les anciens élèves d’Enrica Galazzi lui reconnaissent de façon unanime ne sont pas seulement tributaires d’un esprit vif et d’une dévouement sans bornes pour l’avenir de la linguistique française en Italie, ainsi que pour celui des jeunes chercheurs et chercheuses francisant.e.s qui l’ont côtoyé.e.s pendant sa longue carrière universitaire. Ceux qui, comme les auteurs de cet article, ont aussi eu la chance de l’approcher à l’issue des journées d’études du prestigieux doctorat en Linguistica francese de l’Université de Brescia, entre une pausé café et les redoutables réunions d’avancement des projets de recherche, savent à quel point Enrica Galazzi a su se montrer aimablement plaisante par sa gaité et ironie intelligentes. C’est pourquoi nous croyons faire plaisir à notre chère professeure et collègue, en lui offrant ce florilège de mèmes.
L’objectif de cette étude est d’étudier les mèmes Internet politiques français et italiens afin d’observer le recours à l’ironie et à l’humour dans la construction d’un discours polémique ayant pour cible les autorités politiques en France et en Italie. Nous allons cerner, dans un premier temps, l’objet “mème” en tant que genre technodiscursif ou, plus précisément, de ‘technographisme’ au sens de M.-A. Paveau (2017). Ensuite, nous présenterons le corpus, sa taille ainsi que les critères qui ont présidé à sa construction suivant une démarche inductive qui vise à informer la réflexion théorique à partir des données empiriques. Ce n’est qu’après avoir mis l’accent sur l’articulation entre visée ironique et humoristique que nous allons présenter l’analyse qualitative du corpus, avant d'enchaîner sur les conclusions
Une perspective francophone pour l’étude des néologismes touristiques
No full textThis paper deals with French neologisms in the field of tourism, with a special focus on those belonging to specific French-speaking areas, in particular regional words from Charente, Normandy and Savoie describing holidaymakers. Based on a sample of words added to the last edition of Le Petit Larousse illustré 2023, our analysis aims to show their description in other French dictionaries (both professional and collaborative) as well as their diffusion in a large web corpus. The results show that not all the new words or new meanings are actually frequent in the corpus: the reasons for their inclusion, therefore, seem to be more related with the publishing house’s lexicographic tradition and with the choice to record a category of words sharing the same features, both from a semantic and a sociolinguistic point of view
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
