Conditional futures: South Asian American cultural production and community formation, 1991-2001
Conditional Futures: South Asian American Cultural Production and Community Formation, 1991-2001 traces the development of a politically engaged diasporic consciousness, expressed in contemporary South Asian American literature and other media during the period between the Persian Gulf War and 9/11. This diasporic consciousness sought to challenge the assimilationist, “model minority” selfrepresentation of a previous generation of South Asian American professionals. Responding instead to a set of transnational shifts that shaped the 1990s—including India’s economic liberalization in 1991 and the post-Cold War rise of U.S. military and commercial global dominance—contemporary South Asian American artists and cultural critics, such as Vivek Bald, Meena Alexander, Shani Mootoo, Amitava Kumar and Vijay Prashad, reframed diasporic community as cohering around shared politics, rather than shared origins. Drawing upon a grassroots archive of community organization newsletters, arts periodicals and personal interviews, my analysis reveals the multiple spatial scales of transnationalism that contextualize these artists’ and scholars’ projects: global changes in labor and migration as a result of economic liberalization, on one hand; and a hemispheric diasporic arts activism aligned with feminist, queer and antiracist organizing in New York City and Toronto, on the other. I locate aesthetic innovation as an important response to fiscal and social reforms during the premillennial decade, as it provided a creative plane through which artists imagined “conditional futures”—modes of collectivity that did not yet exist, but could possibly evolve.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Anantha Sudhaka
Two variable fragment of Term Modal Logic
Term modal logics (TML) are modal logics with unboundedly many modalities, with quantification over modal indices, so that we can have formulas of the form Exists y Forall x (Box_x P(x,y) implies Diamond_y P(y,x)). Like First order modal logic, TML is also "notoriously" undecidable, in the sense that even very simple fragments are undecidable. In this paper, we show the decidability of one interesting fragment, that of two variable TML. This is in contrast to two-variable First order modal logic, which is undecidable
Approaches to pre-formulation R and D for phytopharmaceuticals emanating from herb based traditional Ayurvedic processes
Botanicals constitute a large part of the drugs from the traditional medicine (TM) and ethno medicine (EM) known for their history of safe use (HOSU). Phytopharmaceuticals having a base of such origin offer high advantages as they come with safety profiles, and often allow extrapolation of the HOSU data, under certain circumstances. However, while current pharmaceutical technologies are being adopted by the industry to make phytopharmaceuticals with such origin, there is a need for preformulation research and development (R and D) during formulation. Some suggestions for R and D studies in case of aqueous extracts known in Ayurveda, converted on an industrial scale to obtain a phytopharmaceutical, and formulated as a solid dosage form (granules, tablets, or capsules) are discussed
Bundled Fragments of First-Order Modal Logic: (Un)Decidability
Quantified modal logic is notorious for being undecidable, with very few known decidable fragments such as the monodic ones. For instance, even the two-variable fragment over unary predicates is undecidable. In this paper, we study a particular fragment, namely the bundled fragment, where a first-order quantifier is always followed by a modality when occurring in the formula, inspired by the proposal of [Yanjing Wang, 2017] in the context of non-standard epistemic logics of know-what, know-how, know-why, and so on.
As always with quantified modal logics, it makes a significant difference whether the domain stays the same across possible worlds. In particular, we show that the predicate logic with the bundle "forall Box" alone is undecidable over constant domain interpretations, even with only monadic predicates, whereas having the "exists Box" bundle instead gives us a decidable logic. On the other hand, over increasing domain interpretations, we get decidability with both "forall Box" and "exists Box" bundles with unrestricted predicates, where we obtain tableau based procedures that run in PSPACE. We further show that the "exists Box" bundle cannot distinguish between constant domain and variable domain interpretations

Generalized Bundled Fragments for First-Order Modal Logic
When we bundle quantifiers and modalities together (as in ∃x□, ◇∀x etc.) in first-order modal logic (FOML), we get new logical operators whose combinations produce interesting bundled fragments of FOML. It is well-known that finding decidable fragments of FOML is hard, but existing work shows that certain bundled fragments are decidable [Anantha Padmanabha et al., 2018], without any restriction on the arity of predicates, the number of variables, or the modal scope. In this paper, we explore generalized bundles such as ∀x∀y□, ∀x∃y◇ etc., and map the terrain with regard to decidability, presenting both decidability and undecidability results. In particular, we propose the loosely bundled fragment, which is decidable over increasing domains and encompasses all known decidable bundled fragments

A 6 mW, 5,000-Word Real-Time Speech Recognizer Using WFST Models
We describe an IC that provides a local speech recognition capability for a variety of electronic devices. We start with a generic speech decoder architecture that is programmable with industry-standard WFST and GMM speech models. Algorithm and architectural enhancements are incorporated in order to achieve real-time performance amid system-level constraints on internal memory size and external memory bandwidth. A 2.5 × 2.5 mm test chip implementing this architecture was fabricated using a 65 nm process. The chip performs a 5,000 word recognition task in real-time with 13.0% word error rate, 6.0 mW core power consumption, and a search efficiency of approximately 16 nJ per hypothesis.Quanta Computer (Firm)Irwin Mark Jacobs and Joan Klein Jacobs Presidential Fellowshi
