    Theme enrichment analysis: A statistical test for identifying significantly enriched themes in a list of stories with an application to the Star Trek television franchise

    No full text
    In this paper, we describe how the hypergeometric test can be used to determine whether a given theme of interest occurs in a storyset at a frequency more than would be expected by chance. By a storyset we mean simply a list of stories defined according to a common attribute (e.g., author, movement, period). The test works roughly as follows: Given a background storyset and a sub-storyset of interest, the test determines whether a given theme is over-represented in the sub-storyset, based on comparing the proportions of stories in the sub-storyset and background storyset featuring the theme. A storyset is said to be “enriched” for a theme with respect to a particular background storyset, when the theme is identified as being significantly over-represented by the test. Furthermore, we introduce here a toy dataset consisting of 280 manually themed Star Trek television franchise episodes. As a proof of concept, we use the hypergeometric test to analyze the Star Trek stories for enriched themes. The hypergeometric testing approach to theme enrichment analysis is implemented for the Star Trek thematic dataset in the R package stoRy. Sobolev Algebras Through a 'Carré du Champ' Identity

    No full text
    We consider abstract Sobolev spaces of Bessel-type associated with an operator. In this work, we pursue the study of algebra properties of such functional spaces through the corresponding semigroup. As a follow-up to our previous work, we show that by making use of the property of a 'carré du champ' identity, this algebra property holds in a wider range than previously shown.Accepted Author ManuscriptAnalysi

    Les mouvements des yeux et les mesures de dépendance-indépendance du champ

    No full text
    Summary The author reviews the main methods for the measurement of field dependence-independence and analyzes the characteristics of eye movements during certain tests, namely Embedded Figures Test and Rod and Frame Test.

    No full text
    International audienceOver the past twenty years or so, the presence of actors with learning or psychic disabilities has been recognized in the theatrical field, and various performances featuring these performers are now a regular fixture at festivals and national the- aters. The author examines the existing mechanisms that enable disabled artists to perform in live shows. How do the medical and social organizations that support these projects manage to develop both a stance and a discourse based on complex strategies aimed at gaining recognition for their activities in the artistic field?

    Absolute and relative orbit determination for the CHAMP/GRACE constellation

    No full text
    Precise orbit determination was investigated for a satellite constellation comprised of two different missions, the CHAllenging Minisatellite Payload (CHAMP) satellite and the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) twin satellites. The orbital planes of these two missions aligned closely during March to May 2005, allowing precise baseline determinations between the associated three satellites based on their onboard BlackJack Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers. The GRACE-A/B satellites fly in tandem formation with a baseline of around 220 km, whereas the baselines between CHAMP and the GRACE tandem vary from about 110 to 7500 km during 24-h orbital arcs centered around the points of closest approaches. A number of factors had to be dealt with for orbit determinations, including the cross-talk between the CHAMP GPS main navigation and occultation antennas, the different levels of non-gravitational accelerations, and the rapidly changing geometry that complicates the fixing of integer ambiguities for the GPS carrier-phase observations. Quality assessments of the orbit solutions were based on comparisons with Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) observations, best orbit solutions had a precision of typically 1.7–2.3 cm. Consistency checks between reduced-dynamic and kinematic orbit solutions were done. For the GRACE baselines, the reduced-dynamic/kinematic baseline consistency was typically better than 1 cm, with an ambiguity fixing success rate of around 94%. The agreement with the K/Ka-Band Radar Ranging (KBR) measurements was about 0.6 mm. For the CHAMP/GRACE pairs, the reduced-dynamic/kinematic baseline consistency varied from 0.5 to 2.5 cm, where better consistency was obtained for shorter arcs.Accepted author manuscriptAstrodynamics & Space Mission

    A reference case for mean field games models.

    Nous présentons un exemple archétypal de jeu à champ moyen. Cet exemple est important à deux égards. Tout d'abord, il est suffisamment simple pour permettre l'obtention de solutions explicites : les fonctions de Bellman sont quadratiques, les mesures stationnaires gaussiennes et l'étude de la stabilité peut se faire explicitement en utilisant les polynômes d'Hermite. Aussi, et malgré la simplicité du problème, l'exemple que nous présentons est suffisamment riche pour être transposé mutatis mutandis à d'autres domaines d'application plus complexes.In this article, we present a reference case of mean field games. This case can be seen as a reference for two main reasons. First, the case is simple enough to allow for explicit resolution: Bellman functions are quadratic, stationary measures are normal and stability can be dealt with explicitly using Hermite polynomials. Second, in spite of its simplicity, the case is rich enough in terms of mathematics to be generalized and to inspire the study of more complex models that may not be as tractable as this one.Partial differential equations; Mean field games; Control theory; Numerical methods;
