Estado de madurez y período de conservación de duraznos y nectarínes en Mendoza
La calidad y vida postcosecha de duraznos y nectarines depende, entre otros factores, del estado de madurez de cosecha y de la cultivar. Diversas características de la fruta pueden usarse como índices para determinar el estado de madurez. En el caso de duraznos y nectarines, la firmeza, el contenido de sólidos solubles y el color de la piel son los más utilizados. Generalmente se usan en forma complementaria. Sin embargo algunos son más efectivos que otros según la variedad. Por ejemplo, la variación del color de fondo, de verde a amarillo, es la más usada para variedades que no se cubren completamente de rojo antes de la maduración. En caso contrario, la determinación de firmeza es lo más adecuado. La fecha de cosecha debe determinarse para cada cultivar, teniendo en
cuenta el destino que se le va a dar. Fruta que va a enviarse a mercados lejanos se cosechará con menor madurez que la que va a comercializarse rápidamente. Una de las principales limitantes para la exportación -vía marítima de duraznos y nectarines, a mercados distantes, es el desorden fisiológico conocido como "decaimiento interno" (harinosidad y pardeamiento interno). La susceptibilidad a este desorden depende principalmente del genotipo. La vida postcosecha del producto varía según la cultivar. A través de estas páginas se describen la metodología aplicada y los resultados obtenidos en el estudio sobre estado de madurez y vida postcosecha,
de nuevas cultivares de duraznos y nectarines de Mendoza. Se llevó a cabo durante las temporadas 2003/04 y 2004/05, en el Centro de Estudios Postcosecha de la Estación Experimental Agropecuaria Mendoza del INTA. Efecto del 1-metilciclopropeno [1-MCP] sobre la calidad y vida postcosecha de cerezas = Effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on quality and shelf-life of sweet cherries
En la provincia de Mendoza, Argentina, la cereza (Prunus avium L.) es un cultivo de importancia ya que puede comercializarse como primicia en los mercados de contraestación tales como Europa y Estados Unidos. El uso del 1-metilciclopropeno (1-MCP) permite alargar la conservación y la vida útil de una gran cantidad de frutas, cumpliendo con las exigencias de calidad de los consumidores. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de la aplicación de 1-MCP sobre la calidad y vida postcosecha de cerezas. El ensayo se realizó con cerezas cv. Bing cosechadas en dos estados de madurez. La aplicación del 1-MCP (SmartfreshTM 0,14%) se efectuó en una cámara hermética durante 12 horas a 0 °C. Los frutos tratados y no tratados con 1-MCP se embalaron en bolsas de polietileno y se conservaron en cámaras frigoríficas a 0 °C y 90 a 95% de humedad relativa. A los 28 días en frío más 2 días de comercialización, las cerezas cosechadas con menor madurez y sin aplicación de 1- MCP presentaron un 7% de pedúnculos con más del 75% de la superficie pardeada (grado 4) y, las más maduras, un 33% con más del 50% de pardeamiento (grado 3). No se observaron diferencias significativas en color, firmeza y sólidos solubles, independientemente del tratamiento y madurez de la fruta. Los pedúnculos de las cerezas tratadas con 1-MCP permanecieron más verdes y turgentes durante la conservación en frío y esta condición se hizo más notable cuando la temperatura de comercialización aumentó.In the province of Mendoza, Argentina, sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) is an important crop because it may be commercialized as first-fruit in counter-season markets, such as Europe and the United States. The use of 1- methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) extends the storage life for many fruits, meeting the quality requirements of consumers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of 1-MCP on postharvest life and quality of sweet cherries. The assay was performed with cherries cv. Bing, harvested at two maturity stages. The application of 1-MCP (SmartFreshTM 0.14%) took place in an airtight chamber, for 12 hours, at 0 ° C. The fruits treated and not treated with 1-MCP were packed in polyethylene bags and kept in cold storage at 0 ° C and 90- 95% relative humidity. After 28 days under cold temperature, plus 2 days of commercialization, sweet cherries harvested with less maturity and without application of 1-MCP showed 7% of stems with more than 75% of browned surface (grade 4) while the more mature fruits had 33% of stems with over 50% of browning (grade 3). No significant differences in color, firmness and soluble solids, regardless of treatment and fruit maturity were observed. The stems of plants treated with 1-MCP remained greener, sweeter and more turgid during cold storage, and this condition became more noticeable when the temperature was increased for selling purposes.Fil: Rivero, Maria Laura. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
