    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    [[abstract]]130k的低溫下,將Ni鍍在Pt(110) 表面上,並以AES(Auger electron spectrum)和 LEED(low eneryelectron diffraction) 等技術觀察Ni超薄膜的成長模式,及Ni在Pt 表面上受熱造成的滲透作用。 實驗時,分別以Pt(110) 的重構面(reconstruction)-(1×2) 和非重構面( unreconstruction)-(1×1)當襯底(substrate) 。當Ni鍍在(1×2)面上,由AES 測量 所劃出之AST圖可判斷Ni在(1×2) 面上是先有一層的層成長後,再呈島狀不規則成長 ,即所謂的SK mode;而LEED結果亦符合;並在蒸鍍約半層時,可看到繞射亮點由(1 ×2)變為假性(1×1) 結構Pseudo-(1×1) ;而此相位變化應是Ni覆蓋層和Pt襯底層 之排列產生Anti phase 效應所致,並推斷Ni是先填滿Pt(110) 表面的missing row sites ,即谷底(valley) 再繼續覆蓋其他位置。 當Ni鍍在(1×1) 面,由於Ni和Pt之間的作用力影響,使得(1×1)表面結構破壞;故 由LEED看到(1×1)LEED pattern 中亮點隨著蒸鍍時間而變暗;反之背景增強。而由 AES 之結果得出Ni和Pt之AST 圖為圓滑曲線,無折線產生,可判斷Ni在(1×1)面上為 島狀成長(VW mode)。 將Ni以定量鍍在Pt(110)-(1×2)表面表,由130k加熱到800k發現620k以下,表面蒸鍍 層無特殊變化。但在620k以上有Ni滲透(diffusion) 到Pt晶體內部(bulk)的現象發生 到690k更明顯,加熱完後Ni/Pt 界面形成合金屬。

    [[abstract]]Pt是最重要的觸媒劑,例如汽車工業中常利用它來處理汽車排出之NO, CO等毒氣,氧 化成無害人體健康的NO , CO 等氣體,其它在有機聚合過程當中,更以Pt當做催化劑 。 本文探討H ,O 於Pt(110) 之單晶節面催化過程反應中的基本數據。包括C 和O 之反 應,H 和O 之反應產生H O 。 本實驗利用熱退吸能譜(TDS) ,離子嵌入(ION IMPLATATION) ,功函數變化(CPD) 等 技術,來觀測這些反應。 Pt表面上的碳雜質,在高溫中引入氧後,C 與O 反應產生CO和CO 即可帶走表面上的 碳雜質。反應產生的CO量大於CO ,在500℃ 反應產生的CO量為CO 的3.1 倍。在不 同溫度下引入氧帶走碳之效果有顯著差異,在500℃ 和室下引氧氣和碳反應產生的CO , 高溫500℃ 是室溫時的8 倍,比較反應前後AES 質譜中C, Pt 之比值,在不同溫度 下反應,反應後c/Pt的比值皆小於反應前。表示碳雜質已氧化成CO,CO2 從表面退吸 ,因此吸附於表面的碳較引入氧之前為少。特別在300℃ 到500℃ 之間引入氧,反應 後C/Pt的比值較反應前C/Pt的比值小1/2 以上。 在低溫-100℃下,H 吸附在Pt(110)-(1X2) 表面上,由功函數變化可看出有兩個吸附 態(adsostate) ,但是在室溫下氫氣並不明顯吸附在Pt的表面上。但將氫氣先行離子 ,再嵌入Pt(110)-(1X2) 表面上。由TDS 質譜測得Tm=285±12℃有一退吸溫度,表示 離子化後的氫離子較氫分子有較大的能量可和Pt(110)-(1X2) 表面鍵結,改變退吸的 加熱速率,可以求出氫離子嵌入Pt(110)-(1x2) 之退吸能。 當樣品嵌入氫離子,再引入氧氣,可以樣品表面產生H O,HO。而且H O 之量較HO大8 倍在Tm=520±12℃可發現H O 從Pt(110) 上退吸。在不同溫度下引入氧反應產生H O, HO可發現當溫度漸大反應產生水較少。 #50008898.abs #50008898.abs
