The role of insurance in the social-economic system
The article considers the position and meaning of insurance in the social-economic system of Russia. Insurance is associated primarily with protection of the property interests under risky events. There is a large classification of risks, which is closely related to the insurance institution, and the authors analyze some types of risks providing relevant contemporary examples. Insurance is a means of the risk management system; however, the current economic, political, and social situation has a direct impact on the insurance system. Thus, in periods of instability, insurance companies have to adapt to the economic situation and financial possibilities of people to purchase insurance products. Insurance as a type of activity performs two groups of functions — economic and social. The main task of insurance is to implement effective measures of insurance protection from risky events. The article also considers activities of insurers in Russia from 2012 to 2018: the number of insurance companies, the authorized capital, the peak volume of foreign deposits, insurance payments, reinsurance operations, etc. The authors present two types of insurance — voluntary and compulsory — and consider the features of each type. The data of sociological surveys allows to analyze these features and to identify the role of voluntary and compulsory insurance in the social-economic system (tasks, functions, and so on). ∗ © Zh.V. Influence of university education on changes in students' value orientations
Value orientations of young people are an issue that does not lose relevance in the agenda of social and humanitarian sciences and youth policy. Students are the driving force of youth. Having activity and reactivity, as well as a certain intellectual background, namely students can stimulate social transformations. The University, as an agent of socialization, carries out not only educational activities, but also pedagogical and socializing work, that is why it is able to influence on the development of values and characteristics of students. The article is an analytical review of the data of a unique monitoring conducted since 2015 at the RUDN University in order to assess the effectiveness of pedagogical work at the University. In 2015 and 2019, 60% of 1st-year and 4th-year (graduate) students were surveyed using online questionnaires, respectively, which represents a quasi- panel. The theoretical framework is determined by the concept of M. Rokich about instrumental and terminal values, as well as Yu.A. Zubok's and V.I. Chuprov's concept about meaning-in-life values. The article presents data related to the value orientations of Russian students in the context of their changes in the course of study at the University, namely, issues of patriotism, life values, "idols" as models that students strive for, as well as personal characteristics, which determine the value orientations and other characteristics of an individual (instrumental). The main conclusion: life values and value orientations remain almost unchanged after 4 years of training, while personal characteristics may change throughout the process of training and education. The University can also affect such values as patriotism and the presence of an "idol". For students of the RUDN University, the questions of patriotism are "difficult", and idols are most often either family members or no one at all, which is confirmed by data from other surveys. The proposed conceptual model of monitoring may be of interest to employees of other universities and specialists in the field of education, youth work and youth sociology. © 2021 Moscow Polytechnic University. TECHNOLOGY OF THE ANALYSIS RESPONDENTS' NON-VERBAL REACTIONS TO SOCIOLOGICAL TOOLS IN PILOT RESEARCH
Non-verbal characteristics of human behavior are the spokesmen of human emotions, of what person wants to say, or, vice-versa, tries to conceal. Subject of non-verbal behavior is important not only in psychology, but also in sociology, but currently there is no unified analysis technology for non-verbal reactions in empirical sociological research. Sociologist receives information about the subject of his research - on the state of society, its various sectors, evaluation of social phenomena and other problems-from people. In modern science, the use of non-verbal information is often confronted with suspicion by the scientific community due to the popularization of nonverbal behavior topics and the lack of clear procedures of its application in sociological research. This paper presents the results of methodical experiments. The first experiment established the possibility of using analysis of non-verbal reactions of respondents to the questions in sociological questionnaire in the pilot study in order to improve its quality. The second experiment gives the technology of the analysis of non-verbal reactions of respondents to the questionnaire in pilot sociological research. A possible fixation and analysis of non-verbal reactions of the respondents to the questionnaire for mass surveys has been found during the pilot studies using the method of interview (validation method). On the basis of mainly Ekman's theories authors created the technology of the analysis respondents non-verbal reactions to sociological tools in pilot sociological researches

Способы обработки данных, полученных методом виньеток в социологических исследованиях
The article considers the vignette method as a projective technique that can be an alternative for the traditional methods in mass surveys. The authors present an example of the study of the social representations of an intelligent man with the vignette method: identify the meaning of the concept 'social representations' suggested by S. Moscovici, a scientist who introduced its conceptualization and empirical interpretation; and describe the structure of social representations which consists of a 'core' and a 'periphery' according to the theory of J.-C. Abric. The article shows the process of creating vignettes, choosing their number and conditions for the tool application. The main emphasis is made on the analysis of data obtained through the vignette method by calculating indices, discriminant analysis and logistic regression, and the explanation for the application of these three techniques is given. The authors describe the research procedure, the creation of the tool and the sample; compare the results of each method of analysis. Discriminant analysis and logistic regression data confirm each other, which is an important verification of the results of different methods of analysis.
BELARUSIANS, UKRAINIANS AND RUSSIANS - MUTUAL PERCEPTION IN INTERCULTURAL ENVIRONMENT (basing on results of empirical research)
Belarusians, Ukrainians and Russians are Slavic peoples, whose historical past is illustrative of their greater closeness as compared to other peoples and countries that were included into USSR. With the disintegration of Union, and to the present day, political situation changed repeatedly and in diversified and multi-way, gradually and rapidly as, probably, mutual perception of Russians, Ukrainians and Belarussian. To prove this thesis the sociological research was conducted from December of 2014 to January 2015, with a purpose of exposing and comparing the structure of social perceptions of citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus - students of Peoples` friendship university - about the modern world, about each other and other countries that have proved themselves most brightly on the global stage lately (such as the USA, China, Germany, France, Great Britain) as about their respective population. Using the methods of semantic differential and project questions, author has managed to clarify mutual perception of Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians, and their attitude toward their native and neighbor Slavic and other countries, as well as to the Russian language. With resulting main conclusions: Slavic peoples are still close to each other, however mutual perception of Russians and Belarusians is better, than their attitude toward Ukrainians; their attitude toward countries and respecting nationalities may vary, and Russian language is still of relevance among Slavic peoples
