    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Energi angin menjadi salah satu energi yang menjanjikan sebagai energi alternatif yang ramah lingkungan. Guna meningkatkan efisiensi dari turbin angin, berbagai upaya sudah dilakukan, baik dalam riset maupun implementasi. Salah satu upaya peningkatan efisiensi turbin angin adalah dengan meningkatkan ukuran dari turbin angin, terutama pada bagian sudu turbin. Namun permasalahannya adalah turbin angin yang lebih besar cenderung lebih sering mengalami kegagalan dan membutuhkan perawatan yang lebih dibanding turbin angin yang kecil. Hal ini dikarenakan blade yang digunakan lebih berat dan menerima beban yang lebih besar. Berat dari blade menjadi tantangan dari segi struktural turbin angin dan bertambahnya panjang blade membuatnya menjadi lebih fleksibel, yang mana dapat menyebabkan vibrasi. Bila vibrasi ini tidak dikontrol, hal ini dapat mempengaruhi performa turbin angin dan dapat merusak blade dan komponen lainnya seperti gearbox dan generator. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan riset lebih banyak terhadap desain turbin angin yang handal dan efisien untuk memaksimalkan pemanfaatan energi yang dari angin tersebut. Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan studi terhadap pengaruh tiga material yang berbeda sebagai material pilihan untuk penggunaan struktur spar pada sudu turbin angin, yaitu material S-Glass/Epoksi, TC35/Epoksi, dan M55/Epoksi. Dilakukan juga studi terhadap pengaruh arah orientasi ply terhadap besar defleksi dan tegangan yang bekerja pada struktur. Pada kasus ini, spar turbin angin dimodelkan sebagai laminated composite box-beam yang menerima pembebanan seperti cantilever beam. Permodelan matematika dirancang guna mendapatkan nilai defleksi dan distribusi tegangan pada spar tersebut, yang mana pemberian pembebanan digunakan data yang diperolah dari hasil riset AVATAR. Untuk memastikan model matematika yang dirancang sudah benar, dilakukan proses validasi terlebih dahulu menggunakan penelitian terdahulu sebagai acuan pembanding hasil. Setelah proses validasi selesai, dilanjutkan perhitungan dengan menggunakan properti dari tiga material tersebut. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan metode pendukung dalam melakukan perhitungan awal pada proses desain spar turbin angin yang menggunakan box spar. Didapatkan hasil validasi dengan perbedaan terbesar sebesar 1.26%, sehingga permodelan matematis yang sudah dirancang layak untuk digunakan pada kasus riset AVATAR. Nilai defleksi terbesar dimiliki oleh material S-Glass/Epoxy sebesar 10.057 m, lalu diikuti oleh TC35/Epoxy sebesar 4.021 m, dan defleksi terkecil pada M55/Epoxy sebesar 1.641 m. Nilai distribusi tegangan maksimum terbesar dimiliki oleh S-Glass/Epoxy dan yang terkecil adalah M55/Epoxy. Walaupun nilai defleksi pada ketiga material tersebut berbeda cukup besar, tegangan maksimum yang bekerja pada ketiga material tersebut tidak berbeda jauh. Ini disebabkan oleh adanya perbedaan sifat mekanik elastisitas E1 diantara ketiga material tersebut. Seperti pada M55/Epoxy, dengan defleksi yang kecil akan menghasilkan regangan yang kecil, namun dengan nilai E1 yang besar, tegangan yang dihasilkan menjadi besar. Adapun pengaruh perubahan arah orientasi ply pada defleksi dan distribusi tegangan maksimum adalah berbanding lurus. Dimana semakin besar arah sudut yang diberikan, maka nilai defleksi semakin besar. Dengan semakin besarnya defleksi yang timbul, regangan pada material pun membesar, sehingga tegangan maksimum yang dihasilkan juga turut membesar. Hal tersebut dapat menurunkan efisiensi dari turbin angin dan meningkatkan resiko kegagalan pada sudu turbin angin. =================================================================================================== Wind energy is one of the promising source as an environmentally friendly alternative energy. In order to increase the efficiency of wind turbines, various efforts have been made, both in research and implementation. One of the efforts is to increase the size of the wind turbine, especially on the turbine blades. However, the problem is that larger wind turbines tend to fail more often and require more maintenance than smaller wind turbines. This is because the blade used is heavier and receives a greater load. The weight of the blade poses a structural challenge to the wind turbine and increasing blade length makes it more flexible, which can cause vibration. If these vibrations are not controlled, they can affect the performance of the wind turbine and can damage the blades and other components such as the gearbox and generator. Therefore, more research is needed on reliable and efficient wind turbine designs to maximize the utilization of energy from the wind. In this research, a study was conducted on the effect of three different materials as the material of choice for spar structures on wind turbine blades, namely S-Glass/Epoxy, TC35/Epoxy, and M55/Epoxy. This research also study the effect of ply orientation on deflection and stress acting on the structure. The wind turbine spar is modelled as a laminated composite box-beam that receives a load like a cantilever beam. Mathematical modelling is designed to obtain the value of the deflection and distribution of stress on the spar, in which the load used are obtained from the AVATAR research. To ensure that the mathematical model designed is correct, a validation process is carried out first using previous research as a reference for comparing results. After the validation process is complete, the calculation continues using the properties of the three materials. This research is expected to provide a supporting method in carrying out initial calculations on the wind turbine spar design process modelled after a box spar. The validation results provide the highest difference value of 1.26% which indicates the results of the mathematical modelling and in the previous calculations are in good agreement. The largest deflection value is S-Glass/Epoxy material of 10,057 m, followed by TC35/Epoxy of 4,021 m, and the smallest deflection on M55/Epoxy of 1,641 m. The largest maximum stress distribution value is S-Glass/Epoxy and the smallest is M55/Epoxy. Although the deflection values for the three materials are quite different, the maximum stress acting on the three materials is not much different. This is due to the difference in the mechanical properties of E1 elasticity between the three materials. As in M55/Epoxy, a small deflection will produce a small strain, but with a large E1 value, the resulting stress will be large. As for the effect of ply orientation on the deflection and the maximum stress is directly proportional. Where the greater the direction of the given angle, the greater the deflection value. As the deflection increases, the strain on the material also increases, so that the maximum stress produced also increases. This can reduce the efficiency of the wind turbine and increase the risk of failure on the blade

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
